SwampD Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 I also heard mentioning that he threw his helmet somewhere after all of this, which could add to the game count. My youtube search is coming up blank. Did anyone see it? Just watched it. As he was being escorted of the ice, right when he got to the door he threw his helmet and it slid on the ice as he walked out of the rink. Stupid.
shrader Posted March 7, 2014 Author Report Posted March 7, 2014 Just watched it. As he was being escorted of the ice, right when he got to the door he threw his helmet and it slid on the ice as he walked out of the rink. Stupid. From I was listening to (XM's NHL station this morning), it sounded like he threw it across the ice or something. I guess they were just over-dramatizing it.

My youtube search is coming up blank. Did anyone see it? Best I've been able to find is a gif. Shanny must have destroyed all other footage. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/zack-kassian-ejected-for-hit-on-brendan-dillon-of-dallas--suspension-coming---gif-024601236.html
Eleven Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 I keep looking for some semblance of an explanation; did Kassian think he was going to turn up ice? Did he suddenly turn his back to Kassian? Nope. Nothing. It's just so incredibly stupid. And I really think Kassian can have a nice career if he cleans it up, too.
That Aud Smell Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 here it be: there is something fundamentally wrong with that guy. i mean, kassian. not the guy who got hit and couldn't hold down his breakfast this morning.
SDS Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 here it be: there is something fundamentally wrong with that guy. i mean, kassian. not the guy who got hit and couldn't hold down his breakfast this morning. Jesus. The fact that you can hit someone like that and only get 3-5 games in criminal. That's assault.
Eleven Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 Jesus. The fact that you can hit someone like that and only get 3-5 games in criminal. That's assault. I think he's going to get more than that. He may get ten.
shrader Posted March 7, 2014 Author Report Posted March 7, 2014 I'm waiting for the first "but he put himself in that position" defense. Apparently now turning for a line change is dangerous.
qwksndmonster Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 not an edgy player, true. as for "zero urgency," i think that's highly debatable. When Hodgson skates up ice with the puck, I actually have confidence that he'll get a shot off or pass it to a Sabre. He's got that "talent" thing going for him. Ohhhh wow that hit is hard to watch :o
pastajoe Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 (edited) Here's a more comprehensive look http://www.sportsnet...brendon-dillon/ Looking from the angle that Kassien had, I don't think he expected Dillon to bend down just as he hit him, so he wasn't looking to intentionally wipe him out. And I think he threw his helmet because he was upset with himself because he knew it was going to cost him. But he's still guilty of not being in control. Edited March 7, 2014 by pastajoe
shrader Posted March 7, 2014 Author Report Posted March 7, 2014 I take it back, he intentionally threw his helmet out on the ice. That's an odd one.
darksabre Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 That video makes it look even worse. Kassian is well behind the play when he decides he's going to go hit the puck carrier. Comes across the ice and Dillon never sees him (again, because Kass is behind the play). Dirrrrrtyyyy.
Kristian Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 How the hell is that only 5 games for a repeat offender? Yet Kaleta gets 5 for grazing Jack Johnson, and Scott gets 7 for being bigger than Ericsson? It's a complete joke, if Kassian had played for the Sabres, that's at least 10 games, and a secret memo from the league saying that he needs to be kicked down to the farm.
ubkev Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 Crap play. Chase the puck, you don't dump a guy that is clearly stopping to go for a change.
carpandean Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 Here's why the "he turned at the last second" argument doesn't work for Kassian in this case: had Dillon continued on instead, he would have been six feet further down the ice from where Kassian hit him. The only reason he was where he was is that he basically stopped and turned to go back for a line change.
K-9 Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 This should end the silly irrational debate about who "won" the trade, whatever that means. Kassian is nothing more than a goon with better hands than John Scott. Whip dee phuckin' dee. There is no comparison to be made about who's the better "hockey" player. Kassian will never threaten the level or cerebral hockey sense of Hodgson. That's where it all starts. Cody is light years ahead. GO SABRES!!!
LTS Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 That hit is a textbook example of what not to do. If he gets anything LESS than 10 games it would be a joke. (Yea.. I know). He should get to sit out the rest of the season. I mean, his angle was from behind to begin with and then when the guy turns back he gets destroyed into the boards. Awful.
Rasmus_ Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 (edited) For what this team has on the offensive side of things, unless you're shipping him out for parts, you aren't going to get much. He's a good locker room guy is young and he does have offensive upside. He continues to work. P.S. I will always be a CoHo fan. Edited March 7, 2014 by TheCerebral1

The D-man had position on the wall against the forward, so you assume the guy is either going to dump it in, or turn inside on the rush. Kassian was going for a knockout assuming he turns inside. He didn't. Stupid play and he knew it as soon as it happened. He trusted his hockey instincts and made a poor risk/reward decision. I'm sure he gets 5.

Kaleta's "hit" on Richards was "a stupid gamle". This is a more like a "stupid, reckless and dangerous gamble", Even if Dillion turns into him, it's a late hit, by miles? He would have been closer to the faceoff dot (just outside the zone) than the end of the Canuck's bench. The only way Dillon ends up where he did is stopping to go off on a change. If your hockey instincts only have a 50% chance of being right and a 50% chance of you missing 5+ games, your hockey instincts suck.
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 If your hockey instincts only have a 50% chance of being right and a 50% chance of you missing 5+ games, your hockey instincts suck. Absolutely. That's been Kassian's problem. He is a lot like Tyler Myers in that he can't "dual process". If you have to think it, you are too slow. When you don't think it and you go one way without instinctual fine tooling, stupid stuff happens. You see it when Myers tries to be physical and even on his rushes. Myers is "playing with confidence" now, but he is doing offensively what Kassian did last night. Manual override on "not thinking". I've got a 20 spot Myers gets burned for a few oddman rushes or breakaways in the next game or two. He keeps going to the same rush patterns. I've got no excuse for Kassian. Stupid.
