... Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 God, seriously, Roy implying that his season slump is due to injuries?
JJFIVEOH Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 Ummmmm, so Pitts played back to back? So what? Wasn't this the third game in three and a half days for the Sabres?
thesportsbuff Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 Ummmmm, so Pitts played back to back? So what? Wasn't this the third game in three and a half days for the Sabres? thank you
deluca67 Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 You know damn well what you were implying with your first post, and now you're just spouting more BS. "They came into today playing their back-up goalie which indicates the importance they put on this game." No, all that indicates is that they're on the second game of a back-to-back. Just about every team in the league plays their back-up in those situations. Did you watch the Pitt/Philly game? This was a throw away game for the Pens. The Pens are a Cup contender who played a heated rival on the road that happens to also be a Cup contender. A game with a combined 76 hits and 25 blocked shots. It is no surprise, or at least shouldn't be, that the Pens didn't leave much for a Sunday afternoon game against a bottom feeder. The Pens were hoping they could toss Johnson out there and steal 2 points with whatever they have left in the tank. Ummmmm, so Pitts played back to back? So what? Wasn't this the third game in three and a half days for the Sabres? In none of those games did the Sabres put out the effort the Pens did against the Flyers.
Sabres Fan in NS Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 Even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then! That's because they have a great sense of smell.
fan2456 Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 That's because they have a great sense of smell. LOL. And I bet they'd think the Sabres stink!
Sabres Fan in NS Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 Pretty good game today ... or so I've been reading. Friggin' NBC and the damn Internet rules. I guess I will be able to watch the highlights on nhl.com tomorrow. LOL. And I bet they'd think the Sabres stink! You caught the way I drifted!
Jsixspd Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 Yes. The Lake Erie Zebra Mussels. LOL It was fun seeing Gerbe mix it up too. Guy definitely has a lot of heart.
IKnowPhysics Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 Sick goal by Ennis. He sees his teammate in the corner, ready to pass, then he spins to get on his forehand, sees the defender coming, receives the pass, then saucer passes over the defenseman's stick, catches his own pass on the backhand and buries it behind an out-of-position defenseman and goaltender. Ennis has arrived as a top six forward. He has 3 points in his last 3 games and is logging serious minutes as a center.

I don't see any reason we need certain other "key players" when guys like Ennis clearly have the heart, drive, and talent to succeed on their own.
TheFunPolice Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 I just cringe when I think of our good old friendly owner thinking this game means that the team has it figured out so there's no reason to pressure/force Darcy to do something to get the dead weight out of here I can already hear Ted Black gleefully proclaiming that they have "turned a corner"

nobody Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 STANLEY CUP HERE WE COME BABY!!!! What? Is Terry taking all of the boys on a field trip to the HHOF?
Bmwolf21 Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 What? Is Terry taking all of the boys on a field trip to the HHOF? And taking them all out for ice cream afterwards because they tried really hard today.
kishoph Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 God, seriously, Roy implying that his season slump is due to injuries? That is so pathetic, rarely will you ever hear an athlete blame something on an injury. I know Roy's injury was not minor, but how long can you try and milk it for ?
TrueBlueGED Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 That is so pathetic, rarely will you ever hear an athlete blame something on an injury. I know Roy's injury was not minor, but how long can you try and milk it for ? Whether it's a legitimate excuse or not, it isn't anything that fans want to hear. As to the legitimacy, I'm not a medical expert, but certain injuries take longer to come back from even if the injury itself is medically healed. Achilles injuries in football are like this--players can be back on the field in a year, but it's really a 2 year injury to regain form (and many never regain form *cough* Merriman and Spikes *cough*). Torn ACLs are similar because there's only about an 8 month timeframe to return to action, but it often takes about twice that before the player regains the same agility/explosion they had prior to the injury. Even if it's similar for Roy's injury though, it's still not an excuse for his play. Even if he lost a little speed/quickness, that doesn't remove the ability to give effort and avoid stupid lazy penalties. So maybe a drop in production should have been expected, but a player with good character will at least work harder on other aspects of his game, which Roy clearly hasn't done.
SwampD Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 What? Is Terry taking all of the boys on a field trip to the HHOF? No. He's just taking them to IHOP.
dEnnis the Menace Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 I really hate to say it, but this one is gonna be ugly. It was ugly for Johnson... ;) Good call :flirt:

If they honestly didn't care whether they won or lost, why didn't they leave Johnson in net and let Fleury rest?
Randall Flagg Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 If they honestly didn't care whether they won or lost, why didn't they leave Johnson in net and let Fleury rest? I agree, they are in a fight with two division rivals for home ice advantage, I don't think any game for them is a throwaway game.
Jsixspd Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 No, was no 'throw away' game. This was a good game for the Sabres, nice to give the First Niagara crowd something to go home happy about. Ba That being said, does this make the Sabres a good team? Not even close. They had a good day and Pittsburgh had a bad day. It's the law of averages and consistency that counts. Sabres could lose their next 3 in a row, and the Pens win 3 in a row. You know what's good? The Red Wings winning their 23rd consecutive game on home ice - that's phenomenal, and breaks an 80 year+ old NHL record.
DR HOLLIDAY Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 It is just nice to see a win. It was nice to see them score some damn goals, lol
nobody Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 If they honestly didn't care whether they won or lost, why didn't they leave Johnson in net and let Fleury rest? As is the case for so many coaches - they get stupid. If the plan is to rest a goalie then you have to stick with it no matter how bad the outcome.
