ubkev Posted March 1, 2016 Report Posted March 1, 2016 Just finished Dan Brown's Inferno. His 4th in the Robert Langdon series. Meh, worst of the 4, in my opinion. Quote

MattPie Posted March 1, 2016 Report Posted March 1, 2016 Examples? I'm curious It's been a long time since I read it, but the things that stood out to me where that the system only allowed 5-character passwords and that the NSA built some sort of giant custom computer that melted down. The latter is possible, but at the time (and now), all the largest "public" computers in the world were built using many, many, units of fairly common server hardware running software that ties them together into a cluster. I remember there being more things that irked me, but it was at least 8-9 years ago. I liked DaVinci and Angles and Daemons, but I can't think about those books now without thinking that his grasp on those subjects is just as tenuous. Quote

I loved Angels and Demons, liked DaVinci Code and loved The Lost Symbol, and there is need for quite a bit of suspension of disbelief in all three. I believe your beef is with Digital Fortress, that one bored me. I didn't finish it. Quote

ubkev Posted March 1, 2016 Report Posted March 1, 2016 STOP RIGHT THERE! NOT ANOTHER WORD! If you ruin Casino for me I will hunt you down. Excellent movie. And pretty much how it once was. I would change very little for 100% authenticity. Quote

WildCard Posted March 2, 2016 Report Posted March 2, 2016 What's dark tower about? I'm on book 8 of Malazan and wow. 'Dark Tower' is a sci-fi/fantasy about a lone gunslinger and some mysterious villain, that's all I know about it. It's been on my list to read after Malazan Damn man, you crushed through Malazan; book 8 already?? I'm about 1/2 way done with book 9 right now, and it's great so far. All of the big players are coming together and he really reveals a ton about the history of that world. Icarium's intentions are finally revealed, and so are Tavore's. I can't put it down haha Tell me where you are in TTH right now. It starts pretty slow, but I love that city so I didn't mind it. That end btw is absolutely nuts, there is no way you will see any of it coming. I though the end to Midnight Tides was nuts, and so was the one to Reaper's Gale, but TTH floored me. Quote
LGR4GM Posted March 2, 2016 Report Posted March 2, 2016 I'm on page 1... still waiting for it to arrive. Quote

It's been on my list to read after Malazan The Dark Tower series starts out as this, but becomes much, much more over 8 books. I'm reading "The Gunslinger" for the 3rd time currently. It's the best series of books I've ever read. I can't wait for the movie next year. I heard the movie series may start with the 4th book, "Wizard and Glass" since that is actually the book that takes place the earliest in Roland's (the Gunslinger) life, which would be awesome since that's my favorite book in the series. WildCard Posted March 4, 2016 Report Posted March 4, 2016 (edited) Hooooooooolllllyyyyy ###### did Book 9 (Malazan) get insane. I haven't had my brain shattered by a book likes this since I first read Harry Potter (I was young, did NOT see that ending coming) I hope your book comes soon, Liger, and you plow through it. Book 9 has been the book I've been waiting for for awhile now Edited March 4, 2016 by WildCard Quote

WildCard Posted March 8, 2016 Report Posted March 8, 2016 (edited) It's funny cuz my username is an antagonist in the Dark Tower series. Dark Tower is next on my list. Right after I finish the last book of Malazan, and the 3 prequals, and the spin-off...######, I'll never get to DT  You should try Malazan, Flagg. I'm by no means an expert, but I enjoy reading and do so a ton, and Malazan is in my top 5 experiences in literature. I'd probably put, i no order, '11/22/63', 'Harry Potter', 'Malazan', 'Hamlet' and 'The Bronze Knight' in my top, with GoT excluded because he hasn't finished it. Liger, you would probably like The Bronze Knight series (by Marco) a ton. It's much more straight forward than Malazan, and the scope isn't nearly as big, but the characters are very compelling, the ideas unique, and the action is well written. The plot isn't the most unique creation, but it's very well done, and it hooks you in very quickly. A very under read series, I got luck finding it; when I was a kid I would pick the best cover I could find at the mall, so I actually started with the 2nd book in the series. https://www.goodreads.com/series/92105-the-bronze-knight Edited March 8, 2016 by WildCard Quote

WildCard Posted March 8, 2016 Report Posted March 8, 2016 I must say, I never pictured WildCard as a Hamlet kinda guy. I love Shakespeare actually, I've read a ton of his stuff. I also loved 'Paradise Lost', 'The Aenied', and some Russian literature too; Russian lit has a very unique feel. I used to be an English major, so I was forced to read all of this stuff and ended up really liking it. I doubt I would have read it otherwise, but I'm really glad I did And the Hamlet movie, with the guy from Harry Potter (he plays Lockheart in the 2nd movie), is one of the best films I've ever seen. It's amazing Quote

I've been meaning to read the Dark Tower series forever, and I have no excuse since my dad gave me his copies; just haven't made time. Definitely need to before the movie comes out! I'm intrigued since I've heard there's some crossover with The Talisman and The Black House, which I loved. Quote
