wjag Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 What ever happened to all those posters that spent last off-season defending the Stafford contract extension? Is there anyone left that feels Stafford has any redeeming value as a player? I honestly don't remember what position I sided with last year during the contract extension. My guess is I was happy with it though. At this juncture, I suspect that he'll probably be better in a different system. A change of scenery might do his career wonders. I always think back to MacArthur and Paille. They were basically not shing in Buffalo and seem to have found their positions on new teams in different systems. Stafford might just be in this mode as well.
LastPommerFan Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Stafford's failures as a player are now Roy's fault? Roy makes Stafford play Lazy and Small?
Weave Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Me? I wast just pointing out that there just doesn't seem to be the same level of support. That's all. ;) LOL That is more or less what I meant. Just having some fun before the war of words starts post-deadline.
LabattBlue Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 If Gaustad and Boyes are not moved because Darcy's asking price is too high, I am going to be pissed. Before today, he should have had a good idea as to what the selling price should be...that is part of his job. Furthermore, if the price he set is too high, that should become crystal clear fairly quickly today, and in turn, drop the asking price ASAP.
Lanny Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie Crazy quiet right now but I suspect it will pick up. BUF's Derek Roy strikes me as a significant name likely to move. #TradeCentre #TSN
apuszczalowski Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 nice. Headstones or Wilbury's version? Headstones
fiftyone Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Pierre McGuire on NHL Network was just talking about how GMs are saying asking prices are way too high. His one example came from talking to a GM (who he didn't name) who complained about a player that will be a UFA in the summer who is essentially a 3rd/4th line center being shopped for a first round pick. It's pretty clear he was talking about Gaustad, and that GM was referring to Darcy's asking price being way too high. I think the word he used was "ridiculous."
Lanny Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 They likely have the only 2 centers available today, someone will pay it. If someone won't you take your best offer prior to 3pm.

A first round pick for a third or fourth liner for two months.

Punch Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Not crazy, but distressing potential wrench in moving Roy/Gaustad---- I'd actually like to try to swap Roy for Ott, personally: Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie Popular theory: DAL is holding up a lot of teams. Many in on Steve Ott and not looking elsewhere until that's resolved. #TradeCentre

tom webster Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Stafford's failures as a player are now Roy's fault? I think a couple of players would benefit if the leadership was changed, Stafford just being one of them.

A first round pick for a third or fourth liner for two months. Pierre is a buffalo hating fool. Gaustad is the equivalent or better of guys who have already moved for a second round pick. The teams that are inquiring will be very low first round picks. How is that ridiculous? He asks for a first they offer a second, he moves for a second and a 4th or mid level prospect. People who negotiate for a living understand - pierre babbles incessantly and makes bedroom eyes at players for a living.
obstructedorangeseats Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 If Gaustad and Boyes are not moved because Darcy's asking price is too high, I am going to be pissed. Get your blood pressure meds ready, because the core ain't goin' nowhere.
LabattBlue Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Get your blood pressure meds ready, because the core ain't goin' nowhere. Gaustad and Boyes are part of the core?

That's what I'd love to see. Chip Alexander for the Raleigh News & Observer--- Spacek has reportedly been shopped aggressively and Allen is an UFA that the 'canes have publicly stated is not available: Chip Alexander @ice_chip Allen, Spacek were not in locker room after practice when media came in.

spndnchz Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Sabres supposedly asking for a young top 6 forward and a prospect or pick for Roy.
Punch Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger Stars telling teams Ott won't be traded unless a "great" deal is offered. So much interest in him...could happen. #tradecentre
Eleven Posted February 27, 2012 Author Report Posted February 27, 2012 Sabres supposedly asking for a young top 6 forward and a prospect or pick for Roy. I'd take just the young top 6 forward. Assuming that he is, in fact, a top 6.
K-9 Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 I think a couple of players would benefit if the leadership was changed, Stafford just being one of them. While I agree with your idea about a change in leadership, Stafford is in a leadership role as an Alt. C. He needs a change of heart and I'm not sure he cares enough. GO SABRES!!!
obstructedorangeseats Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Gaustad and Boyes are part of the core? Sounds like they're being treated as such. FWIW, I don't get the feeling Boyes is being moved at all.
waldo Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 Ruff traded to Winnipeg for a 3rd round draft pick and a Steven Wright CD!
