The rumored deal is to the Kings, who are scratching and clawing for a playoff spot. I doubt that deal happens in the offseason. LA needs something for now.

 

I was talking about Roy. I agree with you guys about Stafford.

I just can't believe this. I won't.

 

No one with an objective or even a biased view toward Darcy can not see his ineptitude. I am chalking the last half of this year to loyalty and an accumulation of bad breaks. Upper management did not chose Darcy. To fire him after they came in during the season last year, probably would not have been the best move, and after the run they had for the last 30 games or so, made DR look pretty good. But after this year, whether they make the playoffs or not, it is clear DR's vision for this team is flawed. Lindy is their guy. I will not be surprised if Lindy is still here next season, but no way on Darcy.

As for the Stafford to Kings rumor, looks like Kings have found their underachieving winger, and it's not Stafford. Dreger reporting Kings very close to getting Kyle Okposo. No idea for what...

How about Derek Roy to Florida for Stephen Weiss?? Both have been struggling and I think they are pretty comparable. Thoughts?

Don't quote hockey lies and crap please. Florida really has no reason to trade their center for our center... it wouldn't help them enough is what I am saying, even though I do believe Roy is the better player.

 

374 points in 613 games for Weiss

417 points in 527 games for Roy

 

Roy has more goals too.

 

I'd like Weiss as a 2nd or 3rd line center but he's not worth Roy IMO.

exactly which is why this rumor does not make a lot of sense. Florida is not going to trade Weiss and mortgage some of their prospects for Roy. They could potentially consider trading picks for Roy but I doubt it.

 

Weiss - 0.610ppga or 50.03 points per 82games

Roy - 0.791ppga or 64.88 points per 82games

 

Yeah, that way we could go pick up a center that averages 100 points a year with his $2 million dollar contract. Hell, why not do what Florida did last year and get rid of everybody.

...And they are better than the Sabres and at least moving in a positive direction. Not to mention if they could spend like Buffalo they would be much better than us. Also trading Roy frees up 4million so idk where the 2mil contract thing comes from.

 

If it ain't going to bring in a quality center before the deadline, why deal now? Do you really think he'd bring in that much more before the deadline than in the offseason? "YES" - LGR

Teams who are trying to get to the playoffs or teams trying to win a cup, overpay for players in an effort to achieve their goals. The notion of getting the same trade in the offseason is foolhardy because in the offseason the once coveted player more than likely becomes superfluous. Your notion of sit and wait does not hold water and is a main factor in why the Sabres have yet to recover from the events of july 1, 2007. If they had moved pieces they would be stronger at every level by now but unfortunately they subscribe to the "why deal now?" philosophy.

So why don't you tell me what are we going to get in return that is equivalent to a 70 pt/season forward for $4 million. Surely we can't trade for something during the offseason because nobody will be willing to give up anything because they won't get as much in return.

 

And ya know what? The only teams I see giving up big names so far are for draft picks because they've given up hope and are looking to move in a new direction. You aren't going to see any one sided big name for big name trades before the deadline.

First off The name of this thread is trade rumors... They never mentioned roy in that article at all, I read the article and just figured I would run with it to spice up this thread...

You honestly do not see my point of view. The concept is to get high to mid first round picks and prospects from teams that are willing to mortgage their future for a run now. We would not be trading one 70pt center for another. BTW I said this is best time to trade our crap because prices are higher. Trades still occur in the offseason but they tend to require less than if the trade happened at the deadline. There is no further point in continuing this.

Pomminstein is on the kings radar and it would take at least a 1st and a prospect the rumors say

I would want their top prospect and they already traded that to Philly. If Dominic Moore is worth a 2nd and Kyle Quincey a 1st, than Jason Pominville has got to be worth more than that by quite a bit IMHO.

But what if you can keep the decent players you have (Roy and 4 mill is frigging cheap) and use, say, a third or fourth round pick to get the right to talk to an UFA before July 1? Getting to talk with that player is either:

1) trade for him, losing picks, player and/or prospect and still having to sign them July 1

2) wait until the offseason, give team low pick for his rights and still have to sign them

 

As for us all we've got is Goose and Boyes.

Right you could do what you are suggesting. It all depends on managements feelings about Roy. I am not advocating trading anyone for an expiring UFA because this is not the time to make those types of trades. If Roy is worth a pick or two and a good prospect than that may be worth doing. As far as keeping players I think that has been played out. Roy, Hecht, Goose, Pommers, Vanek, Stafford and Miller have never won a playoff series on their own so maybe we need to move some of them in an attempt to bring in pieces that can accomplish that. Other than Parise I am not sure who we could bring in through UFA that would help.

That's no rumour ... this belongs in the Trade Deadline Thread, but in order to make it official we better wait for 3:00:01 PM on Monday and then the mods can move your post.
