I'm struggling to figure out who we would want in return, especially for Pominville. Kopitar is our dream pick-up but there's no way the Kings would deal him, right?

I assume we would want Dustin Brown. He's everything this team needs. Led the NHL in hitting and can score (although more of a 55 point guy than a true scorer).

I'd expect something like a high pick and Penner's expiring contract. The Kings don't have all that much space to work with.

If it's just Stafford, fine. (Little known fact: "Penner" is actually West Coast for "Stafford.")

Mike Richards or Dustin Brown. They also have a nifty Russian rookie center who is too small.

How 'bout Pommer, Stafford and a #1 for Richards and Brown (both of whom are 27, tough and under contract for at least 3 more years)?

Yes, please.

Ok, shrader, NOW people have suggested it.

Sorry, but is this not the type of proposal that, if it had been posted by some other members, would have you screeching BS?

EDIT: EMOTICON ADDED TO MAKE MY SARCASM CLEAR ... :P ... I'M LOOKING AT YOU ELEVEN.

In fairness, it's a response to (1) a rumor about the Kings' interest in Poms, not the Sabs' interest in Brown, and (2) a question as to what LA has that Buffalo could want.

FWIW, Sutter has called out both Brown and Kopitar in the last 24 hours: http://prohockeytalk...about-the-team/

I don't think it's necessarily a precursor to a trade but they've both struggled as of late. I like Pominville, but any combination of Pommer/Stafford (even including picks/prospect) for Brown/Kopitar probably falls into the category of "I'd do it in a heartbeat" which likely means that Lombardi would be crazy to agree.

Dustin Brown and his wife are from Ithaca, so I don't think it is unreasonable that he'd want to play for a team like Buffalo. But, if I'm the Kings GM, he is certainly a guy I keep.

Pominville is untradeable.

I know that Gretzky was traded, but Pommer is even beyond that.

Untradeable. If Darcy called up another GM and said, I'd like to discuss trading you Jason Pominville, the other GM would hang up thinking it was a prank call.

Sincerely,

Desperately Not Wanting to Change His Screenname

Crazy trades DO happen though..... #hope

To be fair though, discussing these trades is probably silly. I mean, some guy's buddy at ESPN said the Sabres weren't going to be active. We should all recognize this as the incontestable truth.

I agree on Penner. As for Brown, I didn't realize that he was the captain. Accordingly, it's probably an unrealistic proposal.

OTOH, the Kings have had a hugely disappointing season and are currently dead last in the NHL in scoring.

Vanek/Pominville/Stafford/Myers/Miller

Kopitar/Brown/Doughty/Penner/Clifford/Bernier

Get it done Darcy!

Gotta put Quick on the return list, who would want both (except Team USA)

I'd trade Stafford for Brown yesterday, today, tomorrow, and every day after tomorrow for the length of both of their contracts. Which probably means there's no way the Kings do it.

Yeah, that's not the part that people are discussing w/r/t Brown. I think we're all pretty sure that Stafford alone brings back a draft pick and that's it. Which is fine.

From reading other boards Kings fans have really been down on Brown this season also. Likely a result of inflated expectations.

That's exactly why I threw in the phrase "expiring contract". That is how this team is going to have to free up cap space. You keep the guy for the rest of the season and then wash your hands.

The Kings would never move Kopitar straight up for Vanek, and that is saying something considering what a perfect piece Vanek would be for the Kings. On top of that they are even more unlikely to consider moving Doughty whom they are unreasonably high on. They already passed on Myers at the draft and would have no interest in swapping Doughty for him. The only real benefit for the Kings here would be Miller for Bernier, but that is a move I doubt they have any interest in since they seem very happy with Quick so the huge cap hit for Miller is probably not what they would want.

It's a joke!

There's a better chance of me bagging a certain unnamed redhead and blonde at the same time than something like that ever happening.

Spector has a little.

Ott is a guy I would LOVE to have on the Sabres but $2.95M is rahter spendy for what he is.

and in Nash news......

Ruutu was re-signed today. Something like 4 years 4.75 per with a three year NMC.

Hey chz - what's the credibility quotient for this place?

LA "scouring" for offensive help and he chooses Stafford?

Reported that Darcy is trying to re-sign Gaustad. As per GR update at 2 pm.

They've been having talks for like 2 months now. Hello GR. This is not "news".
