bunomatic Posted February 22, 2012 Report Posted February 22, 2012 Ok Tampa is in selloff mode....Why aren't we?.....Get real!!....This team will not make the playoffs next year either if they keep the core the same.... Agreed. And whats the point of making the playoffs if you're one and done? The object is to win the cup isn't it?
Two or less Posted February 22, 2012 Report Posted February 22, 2012 Ok Tampa is in selloff mode....Why aren't we?.....Get real!!....This team will not make the playoffs next year either if they keep the core the same.... Not just selloff, but reloading mode. They now have 2 firsts and 3 second round picks. TSN speculating they will be making a huge run after Bishop or Bernier now....
TheFunPolice Posted February 22, 2012 Report Posted February 22, 2012 nothing major is happening to this team until Darcy is no longer the GM. It is as simple as that. When you listen to Pegula talk, it is obvious that Darcy has been in his ear. It might as well be Darcy talking. And since the Sabres are all a big happy "family" Pegula is not going to fire Darcy
SDS Posted February 22, 2012 Report Posted February 22, 2012 If it's me, it depends on HOW we win--who contributes, who doesn't, who gives up the puck in the offensive zone, who can't clear our zone ... if it's a squeaker and the only goal scorers are Pomminstein, vanek and ennis, i say ship whoever to wherever for whomever makes this team better. hahaha
sabres1970 Posted February 22, 2012 Report Posted February 22, 2012 F^&k, the Leafs are going to OT. Whoops, wrong thread to post in but w.e.
darksabre Posted February 22, 2012 Report Posted February 22, 2012 If you don't like a thread and it doesn't break any rules don't reply to it. More often than not, that causes more problems than it fixes. Let us handle what is ours to handle. But where else am I supposed to make Airplane! jokes?
shrader Posted February 22, 2012 Report Posted February 22, 2012 Not just selloff, but reloading mode. They now have 2 firsts and 3 second round picks. TSN speculating they will be making a huge run after Bishop or Bernier now.... They should just wait on Bishop. He needs to play in 15 NHL games this year or else he will be a UFA. It would take a major disaster in St. Louis for that to happen.
nfreeman Posted February 22, 2012 Report Posted February 22, 2012 Serious question. Do you really think there is a trade to be had for a #1 center? I suppose there could be a surprise team out there that pulls a Philly this offseason and moves their #1 or #2 but my crystal ball isn't picking it up. Maybe it is my usual cynicism taking hold but I don't have the confidence I had last season that there is a center out there that will be on the market that fits most folks definition of a #1. Generally, no. However, they do pop up every now and then, albeit usually with some hair on them. Just last summer we saw Mike Richards, Brad Richards and Jeff Carter all change teams, and it sounded like Spezza was in play. don't look to FA if your goal is a #1 center. Grabovski and Stoll is about as good as it gets. Parise played center a good part of this season. If the team is going to acquire a #1 center, it's going to cost us Myers. That's about as clear cut as I can make it. It's not happening through free agency, and it's not happening in a Roy/Stafford/picks/etc package. Why would a team settle for anything less than Myers? As another poster stated, it's not like teams are actively trying to get rid of #1 centers. 100% agree, if we're talking about a true #1 like Getzlaf.
BetterDays06 Posted February 22, 2012 Report Posted February 22, 2012 I would love to see a trade today. Idc if they bring anyone in, we can bring luke and foligno up

Gotta keep up, weave; current thinking is that the Sabres unilaterally can force such a trade if they want it bad enough.

Remember that bozo who, prior to being exposed as a BSer regarding his service in Iraq, demanded that the Sabres trade for Eric Staal?

That's when you go after them at Deadline or July 1. J Staal is a big reason to hope for a Crosby Recovery, his contract is up that summer as well.

The guy isn't a #1 though. I'd love him on my team, especially at the right price, but if somebody pays him $6.5 million a year to be their top line center, I think they're going to be sorely disappointed.

Definitely not a star center, but jeez, we're just desperate for someone who doesn't look like a fish out of water in the position, on any line. 6.5 would be way too high unless he blows up next year. He has been hurt a bunch, which is cause for concern.
nfreeman Posted February 22, 2012 Report Posted February 22, 2012 And wasn't it Hank who called him out and then later went on to stalk old man PA? I think it was Hank, Taro and perhaps one other credible poster, all of whom convincingly debunked the bozo's claims. Hank's stalking of PA was a solo mission though. Definitely not a star center, but jeez, we're just desperate for someone who doesn't look like a fish out of water in the position, on any line. 6.5 would be way too high unless he blows up next year. Weave Posted February 22, 2012 Report Posted February 22, 2012 So, no trade rumors at all? Spector has a little. TORONTO SUN: Lance Hornby cited an ESPN reports claiming Dallas Stars agitator Steve Ott is generating interest in the rumor mill…TSN reports the Carolina Hurricanes have set today as a deadline to get Tuomo Ruutu under contract, or they’ll consider putting him on the trade block again.SPECTOR’S NOTE: Hopefully we’ll learn by today if Ruutu will be re-signed or shopped. As for Ott, Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk could wait until deadline day before deciding if he’ll trade him or keep him. Ott has two more years at $2.95 million per season left on his contract, with a “no-trade” clause. Ott is a guy I would LOVE to have on the Sabres but $2.95M is rahter spendy for what he is. and in Nash news...... TSN.CA: Darren Dreger reports the San Jose Sharks are “emerging as a strong contender” for Rick Nash, citing sources saying the Blue Jackets originally targeted center Logan Couture, but the Sharks won’t move him. Dreger says the Sharks would prefer an off-season deal to avoid in-season disruption, but will be interested in Nash up to the deadline…
apuszczalowski Posted February 22, 2012 Report Posted February 22, 2012 I think Dregger says that the Sharks are the frontrunners while someone else on TSN was saying the Kings were the frontrunners, also heard the Rangers were the frontrunners too at one point for Nash, in other words, teams are looking and making offers, but nothings happening yet Also they were saying this morning on WGR that there are 6 teams interested in Gaustad. The Flames being one that are also looking at Boyes, redwings and Sharks could also be in the other teams interested. Personally I would rather see him re-signed for faceoffs. He is currently 7th in faceoffs in the league this season (or was when they were playing the Pens on Sunday)

[/i] Ott is a guy I would LOVE to have on the Sabres but $2.95M is rahter spendy for what he is. and in Nash news...... I like Ott as well - he is a physically smaller version of goose, but plays much larger. Surprised to see him listed at only 6'00" 195 lbs. as he really throws the body around. He has just slightly better offensive numbers than goose. I can't say I know enough about his game to know whether he is as defensively responsible and versatile as goose but he should be considering his salary. Ott sure racks up a lot more penalty minutes than Goose, presumably in five minute chunks. Anyone else, already in or not, could up their bid, but if it stays where it is right now, then he likely won't be sold.

Yeah, I'm already on record on this site as saying Ott is a guy that the Sabres need to go after this offseason. He's not the penalty killer Goose is but he brings everything else that we want Goose to bring. He is fearless and he is a huge competitor.

We may hear of a new contract for him by the deadline, rather than he was traded. If we hear of a new contract, that means Gaustad wanted to stay. If he is not traded, but doesn't get a new contract by the deadline, it means he was okay with being traded, but DR wouldn't let him go. However, if anyone is interested in Boyes, DR better be get on that. Yuck, I hate having to rely on DR to do this stuff...
