Just curious how many of you have interest in the release of Star Wars Episode I in 3d. I'm looking forward to it. I've never really cared to watch a move in 3d, but if Star Wars is on the big screen I have to see it. How many more times will the Star Wars movies be re-released? I'm really looking forward to Episode IV being put in theaters 2015. The original trilogy far surpasses the new trilogy, and I have never seen the originals on the big screen. Any how, I just want to see what you guys think of Star Wars being back in theaters. I am very excited.

Right on, Falstaff. I want to take my 4 year old daughter to see it. She's seen Episodes I - 3 on dvd and she loves them! My only hesitation is her attempting to watch a movie in 3d. It's something she has yet to try, so I guess it is a gamble. Beyond excited, though!

Don't have much of an opinion oneway or the other, but if you don't get offended by people picking on Star Wars check out the review for it on RedLetterMedia. I don't know how to do links, but it is on youtube under Phantom Menace Review (seven parts). This is genuinely one of the funniest most interesting things I ever watched and is way way more entertaining than the actual movie.

Talk about the power of suggestion... just reading this thread was enough to get the Cantina song in my head (probably also because of the Super Bowl commercial).

Spielberg is milking that franchise for every nickle he can. I suppose I can't blame him if crowds are going to come out and throw their dollars at him every time he gives those movies a coat of fresh paint.

It's cool. The effect is done soooo much better than it used to be. They make kids sized glasses and after a couple minutes they don't notice the difference. I was pleasantly surprised at how seamless the 3D was in Tintin. I expect more of the same in Star Wars since there shouldn't be any cheesy 3d jokes - only Jar Jar.

FWIW - this is by far the worst movie of the 6 so for me to shell out money to watch it again is a testment to the 3d. We saw the preview at Tintin and the 5 y/o turned to me and went "Daddy, we HAVE to see that, it's gonna be AWE-SOOOMMME!" How can you say no?

It's not Spielberg - it's George Lucas.

By far. Anyone doubt that the next 3D release will be the ####ing Ewoks to be followed up by Episode 2. At least we'll get to find out if Lucas thought the best flick was the original, Empire Strikes Back, or Anakin ####ing up a shitload of Padawans. My vote goes for Empire, but I wouldn't be shocked if he thought Ewoks was the best. "I got to work w/ Jim Henson and Frank Oz dude."

Stupid question from a non-fanatic: Is it Ep I or Ep IV? The latter being the one that we all think of as the original "Star Wars."

The ####ing movie that is going to be the 1st 3D Star Wars movie will be Ep I: George is Stealing More Money, not Ep IV: A New Hope (aka Star Wars 1st Release).

I'll answer that with an answer and a question: they'll be released as many times as necessary as long as Lucas still sees the dollars rolling in. The question portion of my reply: how many times do you think Lucas will go back in and ###### with the originals and call it "remastered"?

I mean at this point there has to be another 30 seconds or never-before-seen footage he can stick in that will totally change the whole thing, right?

And just think, after the movies are re-released a few more times, Lucas will probably phase out the Cantina song all together.

sigh....

I absolutely refuse to stuff more quarters in Lucas' fat cheeks until he finally releases the un-edited, full anamorphic cuts of the three "real" Star Wars movies (there are only three) on Blu Ray or some other fully HD format. Until then, he can continue to claim whatever he wants, he ain't stealing anymore of my money. I'll just watch my dubs from the early 1990's LD copies.

By all means, take the kids, they will love it. Spending time and seeing movies with your boys which they will probably remember would be the only way to get me into it. I fully endorse and support that decision, please don't think I am in any way busting on anyone for that. Please enjoy, it's just not for me.

Sadly, word in the industry is that this crapfest will be followed by Crapfest II and Crapfest III before getting around to the originals. So if people don't go see this one, or the next, or the next, you can give up hope of seeing the originals in 3D. If he does actually release the originals, I might seriously consider going back on my word to not spend any more dough, depends on how much more editing and "tweeking" he does this time around...

I can say that it is definitely my two young boys 12 and 9 years old that will have me back at the movies filling mr lucas cash register.

But I also agree that time well spent with your kids doing things together that you both can enjoy and build memories off is well worth the price of admission as I plan to get a lot of mileage out of the subsequent stupid lame jokes we boys can throw back and forth around the whole schtick.

On the upside, The Phantom Menace features the best lightsaber duel of the series.

which is completely negated by that stupid jar jar boinks or whatever its name is.

Yeah, that tempers my excitement... I love the idea of seeing the originals in the theater, but part of me is afraid Jar-Jar will show up and shoot Greedo first.

I'm not sure who I hate more....Jar Jar or the frigging ewoks.

I went to the midnight showing of it last night (this morning) and it was decent considering how they had to make it 3D. It's no where near as good as the movies that are originally shot 100% in 3D (Green Lantern for example) but decent and I'm glad I saw it. I originally didn't like this movie for years but getting older I can actually enjoy most of Jar Jar and just appreciate the story. The acting in parts is still horrible and the line delivery is annoying at times, but it's a Star Wars movie and I'm there.

Some good things that came out of this... They replaced the Yoda puppet used in the original with a digital Yoda this time. I thought the puppet they used in Ep. 1 was strange and didn't look right. That being said, if Lucas ever replaces Yoda in ROTJ with a digital version I will be extremely pissed off. Don't mess with the original trilogy! Also a few seconds and lines were added to a few scenes, they are "throw away" bits that they probably cut for time in the original but it was cool seeing a few "new" things.

I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the Saga on the big screen again. I love the big screen experience and will be there every time he releases them. I've probably paid for at least one of Lucas' kids college tuition by now with all the money I've spent on SW items/movies. But I enjoy it so I'm not complaining.

Couple thoughts.. 1st, i just took my twin 3 yr old girls to see Beauty and the Beast 3D and they did great. It was their first movie and (mostly) kept the glasses on the whole time. So you should be good to go on that end. Also.. Beast was the first old movie converted to 3D that I've seen and I have to say that the 3D was far less impressive than it is for movies made specifically for the 3D environment. Avatar was incredible. There was a scene where i was litterally waving my hand in front of my face to shoo away the tiny bugs t hat were buzzing around. It was crazy. Regardless.. I'm sure you'll have a great time. Enjoy!

They aren't the original versions of the movies though. They're the updated versions with all the added in stuff that pisses off so many fans (the Greedo shot first crowd being the big one). Lucas is holding onto those original versions for another money grab years from now.

AHHH I see. Makes sense.

I was young when the "remastered" versions came out in theatres...my uncle (an avid Star Wars fan) took me to see all of them, and then bought me the VHS versions (the gold set, with the commentary) when the set came out. I've seen both the original and the "remastered" and I guess for someone like me, the remastered version doesn't bother me as much, but ican understand why it bothers the people who grew up with the original versions.

It's always interesting to see how younger people see these things, especially the ones much younger than you (the children a few people in this thread have mentioned). It's a real shame that so many know nothing but the current bastardizations Lucas is peddling.
