I think it would be interesting if Ruff is not behind the bench tonight. Many people would get their answer to "are they not responding to Ruff anymore." If they come out guns a blazin and rip off a 3 goal margin of victory with plenty of big hits, look out Shitestorm.

I think they would have come out guns a-blazin' either way, as they have the last four games. But Patrick will be behind the bench tonight, per Hamsammich on twitter.

Paging Liger.

Oh come on, any one of us young lads could step up to the plate on that one. Liger isn't the only one that is allowed to parade his drunken libido for our amusement ;)

Just obtuse.

My responce or yours? The three teams you mentioned are good now, but weren't when we played them. Even so, three good wins in a season so far is pretty bad

I'm definitely NOT in agreement with you on this. First, I like Thomas and I most certainly respect him. I don't think taking runs at players solves anything. Those are acts reserved for cowards. All I would ask is that the Sabres go out tonight and hit everything in sight. Play hard, finish every check, and do everything in your power to flat out embarrass the Bruins on the score sheet. Showing you can throw punches is nice but showing that you can take a punch and still get the W is better... and doing it in style is even better than that!

I'll be at the game tonight... probably my only game of the year... cannot wait.

Good post. I agree that the Bruins are one of the top 4-5 teams in the league.

I also want to see Buffalo play a solid hard fought finish your checks game. And please make sure the Bruins do not take any liberties that are not immediately handled with an appropriate response.

I am really interested in seeing how this team matches up with one of the top teams in the league. Bflo has played well (sans the NYI game) and it is a good chance to see how their game is progressing and if some of the underachievers decide to achieve tonight.

This

the Sabres haven't beaten a good team all year. I don't expect that to change tonight, but you never know.

IMO if they dominate and play like we thought they Would be able to prior to the start of the season, that will be indicative that ruff has indeed lost this team.

Not that I am a Lindy fan(I wanted him gone last off-season), but do you really believe how they play in ONE game without Ruff behind the bench will be the telling factor as to if the players have tuned Lindy out?

I am dreading having to listen to Jack Edwards on the NESN broadcast, unless the Sabres do something on the ice to keep his homer histrionics in check...

On second thought, I'll just turn the sound off!

In case you are wondering,in the Boston market they usually show the Bruins on NESN and black out The Channel Formerly Known as VS (NBC Sports).

Or it may prove the players really ARE rallying behind Ruff and don't want him gone? Maybe Ruff is taking on the role of George Gipp?

I fully acknowledge the recent string of watchable hockey may be giving me a false optimism, but I actually expect this to be a really good game tonight. I'd be borderline shocked if the Bruins simply ran us over. Sabres should have confidence back, while the Bruins have been playing .500 hockey recently, including losses to mighty Carolina (twice) and Tampa. If we're going to beat Boston this year it's probably going to be tonight (although I'd feel way better if Vanek were playing).

Depends on the result. If they end up looking the same, then no, everyone won't believe that one game will be the telling factor. If they come out looking and playing better then every other team in the league and put a beat dow on Boston tonight, yes it will be enough to be the telling factor and I expect MANY posts tomorrow screaming for Ruffs head on a plater and Patrick to be named head coach

Of course, if they play an absolute stinker tonight, people will come out with overwhelming support of Lindy Ruff, right?

i saw lucic in the team's hotel lobby last night (after visiting the office tower that adjoins the embassy suites). he was lounging in a chair, yawning and apparently waiting for teammates to arrive from their rooms so that they could go eat. as i got within ~10 feet of him, i said (in a clearly jokey way (i'm not an idiot)), "hey, milan. we're coming to get our lunch money back, sooner or later." he furrowed his brow (and that's a lot of brow) and gave me a "huh?" look. i kept walking (again, i'm not an idiot), passed him, and so had to turn around to see him understand the crack and break out into a self-satisfied smirk. something verbal-ish came out of his mouth, but i think it was just something like "aaannnhhhhhhaaaaaaahhaa."

Wow, what a coincidence. I think I saw Lucic in the same chair. I told him that Gaustad said he was a p*ssy.

GO SABRES!!!

I would also expect many posts about Ruff if we beat down Boston. And every single one of those posts would be spectacularly stupid. There can be ZERO conclusions drawn from 1 game without Ruff behind the bench, whether the results are good, bad, or more of the same.

The Sabres will come out like madmen.....because nothing screams...Passion, Emotion, and Grit....like a team with James Patrick behind the bench.

They might have had a chance if Lindy was out for chemo treatments. Instead, he is missing because of a $9 million salaried clusterfcuk of a 1 on 1 drill which Ruff obviously wasn't paying attention to and resulted from what could only be defined as the 17th most craptastically bizzare moment of the season.

Actually no. A national broadcast takes the rights over the local one. The game will not be on NESN tonight and you don't have to deal with Edwards.

This is exactly what i was trying to convey. If we see the team we expected to see this year, the one that was supposed to challenge for the division title, then i think it does show that Ruff is the problem. But they need to absolutely dominate in order for that to be the telling case, and dominate is not something i've seen this team do once yet this season, especially against the bruins.

Of course, if they play an absolute stinker tonight, people will come out with overwhelming support of Lindy Ruff, right?

I don't think so. I don't see it as an issue where its that black and white. If they play badly, then we can just assume that the players are the problem as well.

Tonight's going to show us a few things, and i think if we lose this game then there is no chance in hell we make the playoffs. The bruins got into the sabres heads, and i have a feeling we're going to get tossed around like rag dolls yet again. that doesn't mean i won't be pleasantly surprised if this isn't the case.

The Bruins really have a shot here to break the rest of the sabres season, and i see no reason why they wont try to.

Ruff is still preparing the team for the game. He's still the coach. He's just not behind the bench tonight. The last two Sabres games that Ruff wasn't behind the bench for were both losses, and neither of those losses would support the proposition that he's a good coach (nor would a loss tonight); a win tonight, even an epic win tonight, similarly doesn't support the notion that he isn't a good coach.

True, but Liger's last tirade about how hot Chz is because she knows about hockey is fresh in my mind. Maybe some more of us should step it up :P

FWIW, I don't think you actually have to beat Lucic's ass. Just step up.

Lucic drinking game for tonight. Every time they mention "the hit" DRINK!

Yea right, with the game on NBC most will be drunk before the pregame is over.

I've got my flask all warmed up in the office if you're calling me out.

If not, well then I still get a fun day at work!
