They better have a equal or better defenseman in the deal, or one coming back immediately down the road, because the hole in the sometimes there , more often not Buffalo defense will grow to the size of the Grand Canyon without him. . Why not expand the deal ? Just think what you could get for Vanek, Hoff ,and Regehr in a package. That deal would make Lindy a real happy guy.Nobody left to yell at. He could sleep through an entire game.
fan2456 Posted February 13, 2012 Report Posted February 13, 2012 Frankly, I thought we were getting more when we signed him. To me, he's looked like a guy in the twilight of his career. He struggles in his skating at times, and I don't see him leveling guys in front of the net or physically playing and controlling his man down low. Maybe that latter point is part of the magic "system" that we play in our end. You know, chase the guy around and stick check. I don't know. He's certainly not untouchable as far as I'm concerned. Depends what comes back.

As for roy and regher for Kane - why in the world would Chicago do that?

Still in a heartbeat? yep .. I would throw Vanek and Regehr in for Kane in a heartbeat. That deal would make Chi better this year and they would have to bite if they had the cap room , or if the Sabres could take some back. On the other side of the equation, the deal gives the Sabres a young centerpiece to rebuild around.. I think Vanek has earned a trade after listening to Lindy Ruff yell at him for five years. He should be allowed to go somewhere where he can finally realize his potential (what ever that is) by playing with a true one line and on a team with two or three lines of scoring and a top ten pp. My bet is if they have a cap solution that works they would take that deal for Kane.

I would like to know if there is anyone out there who would report possible movement as credible. An opinion on a hit from a home team member 5 years ago isn't really a concern to me when talking about chatter of player movement.

That's a bit of a risk. I think he made his decision (and yes... HE MADE HIS DECISION..) to come to Buffalo, perhaps because he thought they might be in better shape than Calgary. The season went into the toilet and that changes things. Perhaps he wants to go to a city where he can help someone win this year. We wouldn't know if he approached the Sabres and said, "Hey, if you can move me I am good with it but it has to be to a cup contender." unless he told us. It's at least a possibility. You can choose to approach conversations in the manner above but in the end you'll only be talking to yourself. There is a report from a respected hockey writer that Darcy is trying to move Regehr. Either: 1) Regehr wants out of this hellhole and views coming here as a mistake or 2) Darcy is about to trade one of the only guys on the team who have shown grit and have a physical side to their game, months after bringing him in here and the owner putting on a dog+pony show to convince him to leave his beloved surroundings. The report wasn't..."Darcy looks to make blockbuster for Getzlaff.....Stafford, Kassian and Regehr wanted in return." Either way....it sucks....shows that either Hockey Heaven has FAILED...or Darcy is working Status Quo as always. I just want to know WHO would have to report Regehr is on the block for her to think it has merit. It's not a tough question. The response is that they all have agendas. Chz is pretty good in following all these clowns so I am actually showing respect in valuing her opinion. For all i know....the guy could have an agenda. Maybe Ottawa wants his name out there because he is one of maybe 2 or 3 players on the Sabres they actually hate playing against. Or maybe the Sabres have been approached and leaked it so the league knows he's available. I don't know. If there is someone out there close to gospel...it would be informative to know.

The fact the media isn't saying the player has asked for a trade is good news in my opinion. It means either its not an accurate rumour or that there's at least an understanding by the parties involved that its in everyones best interest that the mainstream media not know that the player wants out. IMO. I'm hoping the rumour is false because I like what he brings. On the other hand is his value as a player ever going to be as high again? He is a player in his declining years as far as I'm concerned so if Regier were to trade him now it might be the best time and in the sabres best interest especially if they want to re-tool.
