darksabre Posted February 5, 2012 Report Posted February 5, 2012 Hey! We beat the friggin Isles. Finally.
kishoph Posted February 5, 2012 Report Posted February 5, 2012 Good come from behind win. The Sabres have taken 7 out of the last 8 points, too bad they waited till after the All Star break to play like this.

biodork Posted February 5, 2012 Report Posted February 5, 2012 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3KskO3_2YQ "Game... Blouses." LOL
sabres1970 Posted February 5, 2012 Report Posted February 5, 2012 The best thing about this was Miller coming back from that first period. He was super-human during that 4-3 in OT.
darksabre Posted February 5, 2012 Report Posted February 5, 2012 WE DID IT! ::hugs a wookie::  That took a lot of mental toughness to come back from a deep deficit early. We stole that game, which is something this team hasn't been able to do all season. I vote Eleven starts all future GDTs until he chokes. ;)
TrueBlueGED Posted February 5, 2012 Report Posted February 5, 2012 Good come from behind win. The Sabres have taken 7 out of the last 8 points, too bad they waited till after the All Star break to play like this. I'm pretty close to officially proclaiming them the Chargers of the NHL. Unlike last year though, I'm fairly confident they're a little too deep to dig out this time.
deluca67 Posted February 5, 2012 Report Posted February 5, 2012 2 points are 2 points. The penalty in OT was just horrible. Why does it seem the only time Sabre players are in a hurry to get off the ice on a line change is when Miller gets run?
LaFontaineToMogilny Posted February 5, 2012 Report Posted February 5, 2012 Another strong showing by Gaustad. Second game in a row he's a complete monster on the 4 on 3 in overtime. Maybe I was high on adrenalin, but did he play the entire 2 minutes of the kill? And yeah, good goal to tie it up as well. I've been one of the people saying Stafford has been playing better lately, but this game was a step backwards. Back to early season disaster-play from him.
NowDoYouBelieve Posted February 5, 2012 Report Posted February 5, 2012 A comeback win...who would've imagined
frissonic Posted February 5, 2012 Report Posted February 5, 2012 i can't believe i forgot all about the game until 10 minutes ago. that infuriates me. oh well. there's always wednesday. glad they got the two! 8 sabres with points on 3 goals. that's pretty awesome.

The same 3 guys (3, 24, and 28) on for the entire PK. Awesome.
SabreFX Posted February 5, 2012 Report Posted February 5, 2012 You weren't imagining things... The same 3 guys (3, 24, and 28) on for the entire PK. Awesome. Well, a lot of that was due to the fact they couldn't clear the zone and make any changes, but yes, still awesome that they lasted that long without falling apart. Woohoo!!!
LaFontaineToMogilny Posted February 5, 2012 Report Posted February 5, 2012 You weren't imagining things... The same 3 guys (3, 24, and 28) on for the entire PK. Awesome. Are you sure? I though the defenders changed when Gaustad cleared the zone that one time? Still, amazing PK and double amazing that they've done it in OT two games in a row
JWell Posted February 5, 2012 Report Posted February 5, 2012 Who knew Boyes would be the next Kotalik! :P never thought of that comparison but its SO accurate
Eleven Posted February 5, 2012 Author Report Posted February 5, 2012 1) If I never hear Sylvester call a game again, I'll be a happy man. The sports bar--and 90% of the patrons were there to watch the Sabres because of the TWC situation--unanimously voted for music instead of game sound for the second and third periods. I'm not kidding. The first was that bad, and the rest of it, well, we listened to Modest Mouse and whatever else. Good Lord, that man can completely kill a hockey game. Please, no more. 2) Don't know what to say about Stafford; he had his moment of redemption on the Sabs' first goal, and then reverted right back into Staffordom. Roy wasn't terrific, either. 3) Watch the last several shootouts (even the NHL skills one, if you need), and ask again why Pommer is captain. And if you still feel the stirring need to ask that, watch Pommer at both ends of the ice next game. (Preferably, go TO a game, and watch him throughout a whole shift.) He's quiet (so was Drury), but as a leader by example, I don't think the team has better. And this comes from someone who has publicly stated on about a billion occasions that he prefers a team vote, rather than coach nomination, for captain. 4) Miller wasn't as bad as he looked. 5) Myers wasn't as good as he looked. 6) Another bull-###### penalty in OT, and frankly, there should have been one going the Sabs' way nearly immediately before. You can't tell me with a straight face that the net really needed to be knocked off there.

Still, amazing PK and double amazing that they've done it in OT two games in a row Ah you might be right on the D, but Goose was definitely out for the whole thing, and the other 2 were out for a huge part if it. Huge effort by those guys.

Understand, though, that I was reluctant to start this one, because my record isn't that good! It was only after a few hours of no GDT (yeah, I wake up at 4 even on weekends, it seems) that I went for it. EDIT: Dark, I freaking love this avatar. Seriously, I think I owe you and your gf dinner or something.

What was wrong with the too many men on the ice penalty? It wasn't even close.

Huge effort by those guys. Regher snuck off when the puck got out to center ice, and Weber, I believe, came on, but Leopold and Goose were stuck on the far side of the ice.
biodork Posted February 5, 2012 Report Posted February 5, 2012 Regher snuck off when the puck got out to center ice, and Weber, I believe, came on, but Leopold and Goose were stuck on the far side of the ice. I missed that; thanks, CSB! Good to see you posting again. :)

What was wrong with the too many men on the ice penalty? It wasn't even close. Maybe I missed the TMM penalty (as above, I had to watch in a bar that unanimously voted to off Sylvester (and I hope they only meant the volume)), but the part you bolded was about the net getting knocked off. So, in your opinion, why no call?

So, in your opinion, why no call? The defender slid into the post. Unless they changed the rule, it is not a penalty everytime a defender knocks the net off. There has to be a clear intent to stop play. The defender there is under no obligation to avoid the post at all cost.
Kelly the Dog Posted February 5, 2012 Report Posted February 5, 2012 It's extremely hard and almost impossible to stop a full two minute 4 on 3 pp in OT. We did it two games in a row. Kudos for that at least. I gave them no chance down two goals even against the isles. I can't be too happy because over half the game these were the crappy Sabres over the last two months, but they havent come back and stole 2 points like this in a while. This wednesday will be interesting. The weird thing is, I won't be surprised if they get blown away and I won't be surprised if they sneak out a win.
