bunomatic Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 Miller seems to be back on his game. Probably the best game I've seen the boys play outside of the first 5 of the season. Lindy seems to have them playing pretty tight defence. ###### way to lose in a shootout but this has to be a huge moral victory getting the loser point. Still want changes to this roster. Can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear.
K-9 Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 Haha. Lindy calling out Roy about missing that shot in OT. "Derek's gotta score there. Close isn't good enough." GO SABRES!!!
nobody Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 Boyes came close but that because he's usaully money in a shootout. They needed Vanek for the shootout. Good game. Sucks to lose, but they got a point. As I tell my son when he bowls "points every frame..." I don't understand why Lindy can't figure out the shootout order. Boyes should always be first. Vanek (when healthy) should always be second. Pommers goes third.
ThePebble19 Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 Just keep getting points...man, that was a tough one to lose though. The last two nights have been some of the most fun hockey I have watched this year. It's nice to get a rejuvenated interest in the team after I was so horribly down on them before the all star break. I don't know how long this little spurt of great hockey is going to last, but I am going to enjoy the ride...
SwampD Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 Losing sucks. As good of a game as it was, I don't feel any better about this team than I did before tonight's game. They need to learn how to win and I'm not sure Lindy is the guy to teach them.
X. Benedict Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 Miller seems to have his explosiveness back in his legs. but still, shootout losses are ouch.

Last nights game and tonight kept me on the edge of my seat.
CallawaySabres Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 until they lose in regulation again, there is no reason not to believe it can't get interesting. There has GOT to be some team that can take Roy off our hands.....
Hawerchuk Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 Sabres deserved a W there. They played hard. If I was Lindy, I would've used Roy in the shootout and not Leino. Give Roy some confidence after the OT near miss. I'm not backing Roy cause I thought he played like ###### but I think he's a better shootout guy. Just my opinion. Lastly, that boarding call on Ennis in OT was absolute bull crap! How can the ref call that?! terrible call. Have to give the PK thumbs up. Great kill. Almost handed NY a W on that call.

That's a great point and not a bad coaching move at all. Given how disgusted Lindy sounded with Roy missing the backhand rebound in OT, I'm not surprised he didn't use him. But still. GO SABRES!!!
Tyrannustyrannus Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 Leino was looking to pass. despite how mad I am, I LOLed when I read this Me neither. Miller looked pissed it wasn't reviewed. I bet he says something about it. it hit the back of the net
DR HOLLIDAY Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 We would be lucky to get anything for Roy at this point....... :censored:
qwksndmonster Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 I'm so exhausted. I haven't stressed out like that the whole entire season. What an amazing display of hockey by both teams. This is why it's so frustrating that we suck so bad.
Eleven Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 I loathe the loss of a point, but damn, the Sabs looked good tonight. And the crowd was really into it in the third and OT. I'm not happy that few in the crowd stood for the Sabres being introduced (I did), especially when they're going to stand for unnecessary anthems anyway 30 seconds later, but the crowd totally redeemed itself later. If this team plays like this every game, it's all possible. They can't hit goalposts forever, and it was a good game on D, on O, and everywhere. And, for the second night in a row, there should be enough evidence to kill the "Lindy hates toughness" bull-######.

LGR4GM Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 Tyler Ennis is playing great. Watched him all game and loved what I saw. Speed, aggression, and a willingness to shoot... this kid is something special. At this junction I would trade Roy for a super mighty, mild with sour cream... he contributes nothing but locker room diarrhea. Myers played fine but he needs to be more explosive and more of a game changer. He's still a kid but he is growing. Kassian who played not great but ok, was still 3x as good as Stafford. Weber and Sekera seem to have some good chemistry. At times you could see their youth but they mostly played a very solid game. Pominville and Gerbe are the hardest working players on this team and if we had more guys who had their determination, we would be much better off. Gerbe always buries his head and skates hard and has absolutely no fear. Pominville is never out of position and always knows what to do with the puck. Final thought. This team can not nor will it ever win a cup as long as Darcy is GM.
Eleven Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 Could it be that Lindy himself finally wised up to the fact that you need to have a pulse to win games? Not if he really hates toughness, no.
Kristian Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 Not if he really hates toughness, no. Personally, I don't think he hates toughness, I just think he grossly understimates the effect it has on his team's morale when they're on the receiving end night in and night out.

They haven't been on the "receiving end" in quite a while. Some of those were losses, as tonight was, but toughness hasn't been a problem since mid-Jan. at the very latest. My guess? The coach instilled some toughness into the team. Hell, even Stafford played tough on Tuesday, and in the last 5 mins + OT (maybe more, that's all I was able to see) against Jersey.
JJFIVEOH Posted February 2, 2012 Report Posted February 2, 2012 Pominville has always been a pretty solid, consistent player. I'm still not big on the fact he was named captain, he's just doesn't fit the mold of what you'd expect a captian to be. But it seems as though having the 'C' has taken him to a new level, he has been leading by example. I can't say at any time this season has he let his game down, been by far the best all around player on the team. Tough to change your personality to fit a leadership role, but it certainly has upped his game. For some reason I just didn't miss Stafford tonight.

Don't disagree, which further underlines my point - This team folds like a wet paperbag when they play a soft, passive game. If Lindy managed to instill some toughness on this team, well good for him, but where was it in December, or last year, or the year before? Like I said, I don't think he hates toughness, he underestimates the damaging effects of softness.

You can only coach so much. As much as I think Lindy's time is coming to a close, nobody will ever be able to convince me that Lindy has coached his team to play "softer". Smarter, sure, but not soft.

So, what you're saying is Darcy and Lindy are not on the same page when it comes down to the roster? I find that hard to believe, seeing they're apparently joined at the hip. I don't disagree about the roster being soft, I just have a hard time imaging Ruff being particularly unhappy about it seeing as Darcy sees no reason to move any of the core.

I don't like where this is going, but what the hey... I'm not sure if Lindy and Darcy are on the same page or not. Most of the "soft" core were better suited in the first couple of years after the lockout. Since then, the game's changed, and our soft core has not. I would "hope" Darcy would move 2-3 of these guys if he could... and I don't think Lindy would miss them. I also don't think every player on the team has to crush bones to be effective. I like most of our young skilled players but we don't have top line talent. Maybe someone like Ennis can become that, but outside of him and maybe Gerbe (our 2 smallest players btw) and I guess Pominville, I don't see top line talent. Toughness is not the only thing lacking on this team, and IMHO, is not the source of this team's issues.
