Jason Pominville, Buffalo's token Rep this year. Yes, he's had a good season-but Geeeezzzzzzzzzzz. Journeyman, over-acheiver, caught in a system that is designed exactly for this kind of player. Limited skills? Lindy's "team" system, will cover them up. Mediocrity can survive. It's not a system for free agent superstars and it doesn't produce them either. This is why, year after tear, this team is referred to as "deep" or full of second or third liners, grinders, or that they're "hard-working". I'm beginning to believe with the pocket book of Pegula($$$), money will be wasted under this OLD system of circling the wagons and making mediocre into an acceptable product on the ice. It's not a good match.

So are you looking for agreement, disagreement or rambling thoughts. The all-star game isn't NHL hockey, unfortunately. Not sure what you want us to say?

I think he is lamenting the idea that Jason Pominville is the best we can send. I can respect that.

I'm not really sure what you're trying to get at here, so I'm just going to dissect your post and offer my insight.

Journeyman, over achiever? I think Pommer is probably as far from Journeyman as you can get, seeing as how he's only been with one organization... As for "over achiever" i sense some kind of negative connotation to that statement. Don't we WANT over achievers? Isn't our problem the fact that most of our guys are under achieving?

As for the rest of the post, i generally agree but its been beaten to death in other threads, and i really don't see how looking at the all star game would reveal any of those facts to anyone.

I can get behind that sentiment as well.

Okay. I think Pommers is worthy of being there. We suffered a lot last year when he was out. Would I like to see him more physical. Sure. But all teams have guys who were not physical. For old timers like myself Craig Ramsay and Bill Hajt were two great former Sabres who played in the all-star game and Pommers is of that ilk IMO. Local media loves Vanek, but he is nowhere near as well rounded as Jason and brings less to the team.

I think P-Ville deserves to be in the all-star game. As much as some people might not want to admit, he is a great all around player and is usually very consistent. When he's gone through scoring slumps he still contributes in many aspects of the game. I think he is underappreciated. On the other side of the equation, I think Vanek has more than enough talent to be in the all-star game. He's had the misfortune of being paired with less than stellar linemates over the years (or at least the lack of a great center) to highlight his talents. Yes he's not as well rounded as P-Ville but he has the determination and skill to eclipse the 40 goal barrier with ease year after year if he had some solid first line forwards to play with.

Yeah but i don't see many other bottom 5 teams sending any players,

he is the best we can send,

we got 4 - 5 other players that could be up there

with him.

calling pommer mediocre and a journeyman.

If you say those kind of things

to a player loyal to the sabres,

pls i can't call you a fan.

hmm, last 4 lines aren't directed at weave btw, just at the one starting this thread with the connoly avatar :P

I think Pominville deserved to be there. He is 14th in the league in scoring and has been the Sabres most consitent player all year. He represented homself and the Sabres well all weekend in the skills and then in the game itself while buried on the 4th line.

What are you talking about? Journeyman usually is something we call players that move to many different clubs throughout their career, like, a Chris Gratton, for example.

Pominville is having an excellent season. He's 14th in the entire league in points. Just because he hasn't put up these kind of numbers in each season or because he isn't a regognizable name throughout the league, doesn't mean he doesn't deserve to have been in Ottawa this past weekend.

Good post.

I rooted hard for Pominville this weekend. I really like the way he's played this season.

Not to mention that Jason is coming back from a horrific injury. I've always like Pomers. He's got skills and he's an honest hockey player, not like some of our other guys.

I agree. Not to mention he has more points(47) currently than a few other people picked before him that play wing.

To name a few:

Kane: 41

Gaborik: 39

Iginla: 39

Alfie: 38 (obviously had to be captain being in Ottawa)

It's usually more about who you are not what you do when it comes to all-star games.

I do find it surprising that St. Louis had 43 points and wasn't in the game though.

Pommer is the best anyone could send. If he is on your team, he is the best player. If they named a hurricane Pominville, it would never fail to make landfall, and it would snap every god-damned piece of wood on whatever poor coast it hit.

Could be All-stars (as soon as next year):

Myers

Miller

Erhoff

And Vanek makes 4.

Could be all-stars this year:

Not only did Pommers deserve to be in the ALS game, he performed good in both the skill competition (limited skills ?) and the game. Pommers represented himself and the team very well. I don't like Lindy's system, but using Pommers as an example doesn't convey that point.

The voting process for the all star game, correct me if I'm wrong, allows for anyone to vote a million times for the same guy if he is bored, or fanatical, enough, isn't that right?

meh, only 30 times.
