Winston Posted February 2, 2018 Report Posted February 2, 2018 Pounds upon pounds of pulled pork, pulled chicken, and smoked brisket for lunch today at work. Little corn pudding on the side didn't hurt either. And there are leftovers to take home. Don't mind if I do!! Quote

Realistically, the deputy is wrong from a legal perspective. As much as anyone flying a Nazi (or Confederate) flag is a moron, they have the right to proclaim how much of a moron they are. Quote

But I'd wholeheartedly partake in the ensuing GoFundMe to make up for the punishment (s)he has to face. (Didn't read the story) Nazis. Quote
Eleven Posted February 2, 2018 Report Posted February 2, 2018 When does free speech cross the line to hate speech? In Canada the line is very clear. Not so sure about the USA. Hate speech is legal in the United States. "Fighting words"--likely to promote imminent violence--are not, but hate speech is completely protected by the First Amendment. Quote
Taro T Posted February 2, 2018 Report Posted February 2, 2018 Hate speech is legal in the United States. "Fighting words"--likely to promote imminent violence--are not, but hate speech is completely protected by the First Amendment. As well it should be. One person's "hate" can be & often is a truth another person doesn't want to hear. When that's the case, the speech should be heard. When it isn't the case, and the hate truly is a pathetic & stupid hate, that should be heard as well, so that the speaker can be exposed as the stupid, hateful person they are. In this grand country you have the right to speak your mind. That doesn't come with a guarantee that what is said will be deferentially ahdered to. Though you have the right to speak, I've the right to not listen. Quote

What Eleven said. I'd also like to point out that in the U.S., you can't yell "FIRE!" in a crowded theater. Unless the theater is on fire, I believe. Or you see a guy named Fire who owes you money. Yes. But I'd wholeheartedly partake in the ensuing GoFundMe to make up for the punishment (s)he has to face. (Didn't read the story) ###### Nazis. I'm half tempted to do it. It could go viral and raise a lot of money. It could also encourage officers to do this kind of thing, except next time it could be an officer in the Bible Belt taking down a rainbow flag. I have interacted with many veterans in recent years and it breaks my heart that very old WWII vets have to live in a time when Nazis roam our country and even hear whispers from high places. sabills Posted February 6, 2018 Report Posted February 6, 2018 (edited) SpaceX just test launched its Falcon Heavy. So far everything has gone off successfully. Some people might have heard of them launching Elon Musk's Tesla into space; that was this flight. Here it is, along with SpaceX's new space suit in the driver's seat, heading to orbit around the sun for a million years(literally): Watched it live. I get giddy over space stuff, but this was extra cool. If you get a chance, go back and watch the whole thing. Until then, here's my favorite part; both side booster rockets landing side by side at the same time: Edited February 6, 2018 by sabelvilhelm Quote

Just happened to turn it on about 5 minutes before the launch. The 1st 2 boosters landing upright was pretty cool. (Especially to someone that hadn't heard thry would do that.) Guess the 3rd booster will land similarly on a platform out in the ocean. Quote

Doohicksie Posted February 6, 2018 Report Posted February 6, 2018 We're a long way from Estes boosters. I worked for Hughes Aircraft when they were the largest manufacturer of satellites in the world. I was literally designing satellites, sizing and selecting booster rockets, calculating orbital maneuvers. I used to be purdy smaart. Oh, I used to meet with astronauts routinely as well. In fact my boss was an alternate payload specialist. Quote

We all know that Starman is actually Major Tom (i.e., the body of David Bowie). Okay maybe not, but I can't think of anything that would be cooler than that. Quote

In fact my boss was an alternate payload specialist. Very cool. My first job out of school was at Bell Aerospace. I wasn't designing booster rockets right out of school, but I got to test a few and report out. Been all down hill ever since. :P My grandfather worked there as well. He worked with Chuck Yeager's brother. He was an Engineer at Bell. He met Chuck back in the X plane days. Quote

Apparently, the center core didn't make it. It ran out of propellant and crash landed right next to the droneship. I think they said it was going about 300 kph at impact. If I'm not mistaken, one of our fellow posters was going through the application process at Spacex. Quote

Overall, if that was the biggest glitch of an initial launch, the whole thing was very successful. Quote
