A friend of mine was telling me about the Stern interview yesterday. I'm going to have to check it out.

It might be my favorite. Although I really liked the special S&M album.

LOVE this one.  I think I had it on loop for at least 2/3 of the 25 hour drive from PA to CO last year, haha.

I haven't listened to it in ages, but I'm pretty sure my brother and I burned through multiple CD copies of it.

I actually re-purchased it last year through SecondSpin after I was telling friends about the amazing version of No Leaf Clover and realizing I couldn't find my copy.  Worth buying twice!

Genuinely good people are still out there, and they are awesome.

I had a ceiling fan installed by an electrician at my house back in early August.  Nice young guy.  At the time he'd asked who was helping me move, and I'd told him I didn't know yet and would probably end up hiring someone once I figured out which weekend in September.  He'd offered that a number of his friends from youth group have trucks and he could probably get a group of people to help move me for free (!) if I'd like.  So last Sat. he and 4 other guys and 2 girls (none of whom I'd met) showed up to my apartment with three trucks, and they had my apartment emptied and everything unloaded at the house inside 2.5 hours, and since we finished early, they invited me to join them for lunch after.  Some of the nicest, most amazing people I've ever met, and it still blows me away that someone would do that for a stranger.

Be careful.

Unknown people, for free, offering to help move my stuff.................... I assume the good in everybody, all while having a level of distrust. If it sounds too good to be true......

Did you miss the part where they already helped me move and were awesome?  They were just legitimately nice people who knew each other from church and work.  Way to try and turn something awesome into a negative.

Excuse me for trying to help. People do that all the time, they offer to move stuff, make a mental note of your belongings all while scoping out easy entrances into your place. Nobody's turning anything negative. It'll be negative when they break in and take half your stuff when you're not home.

But hey, everything is awesome.

I don't know how many times I have to repeat that these were genuinely nice people FROM A CHURCH YOUTH GROUP.  All young.  Friendly and non-obnoxious conversations about religion over lunch.  People who are just trying to case your place to steal sh!t don't ask you to hang out later and take your phone # to stay in touch.  Go piss in someone else's Cheerios.

I hear you, dork, and appreciate and understand why you wouldn't want someone raining on such a people-affirming parade. That sounds like such a wonderful experience.

And, Lawd, while I tread lightly when sticking up for JJ (sorry, guy - but it's true) . . . I'll say that, if my oldest (who'll probably be out on her own in the world in a few short years) had called me from a faraway place to forecast that exact scenario to me (before it happened) . . . I will have had (?) wanted to say: Be careful.

I'm glad you understand my reaction, and I understand and appreciate the concern by both you and JJ, even if I do not appreciate the delivery.  If it makes you guys feel any better, I have electronic locks on my doors and a wireless camera monitoring system.  But there was nothing about any of my interactions with those people that gives me the slightest pause.

(Edit: And if they'd REALLY wanted to steal my stuff, they could've just driven off with it while it was loaded into their trucks rather than bringing it to the house at all.  But considering the organizer works for his dad's electrical business, it would be a pretty stupid move on their part.)

What was wrong with the delivery? I'm still trying to figure out why I'm the bad guy here. Was it the part where I said 'Be careful'? Was it the part where I said "I assume the good in everybody but have a level of distrust"?

Damn this place is tough.

And I think that's just it: If you can't trust your own judgment in those situations - if you're instead going to be ruled by abstract fears - then what are you even doing in life?

Good on ya.

Because even though in your second reply you added a faux caveat about assuming the good in everybody, you clearly do not.

The way you started it out assumes they had ill-intent, even though you claim otherwise.  I took offense to it because I was there and have no reason whatsoever to suspect this.

Right, they could have left when you knew who had all your stuff. As opposed to delivering it and stealing it later when you can't prove it was them.

This is why I keep to myself in life when it comes to situations like this. Even when I try to help, I still get attacked, and questioned on my reasoning. Why even bother trying to help.

Right, because people willing to come into your place, for free, offering to move all your stuff with people you don't know................. what could possibly go wrong? But I'm the bad guy for pointing it out.

I'm done here, have a great weekend Bio.

As is so often the case for you, it's an issue of delivery and then crying poor me when you're supposedly misunderstood.  So thanks for the concern, but not needed.

Because your first message says nothing about the positive aspect on the stituation, while cautioning to be on the lookout.  You jumped straight to assuming they were up to no good and then partially back-pedaled (or at least that's how it came across to me).  People come to this thread to share good news and experiences, and you immediately jumped to the negative.

Hmmmm... I wonder why you seem to get in arguments with pretty much everyone all the time.  Ah, yes, it's because the problem is this place.  This place is tough.  :(
