Iron Crotch Posted January 22, 2014 Report Posted January 22, 2014 sorry for potato phone quality. My phone? ;) Quote
josie Posted January 22, 2014 Report Posted January 22, 2014 Entirely too close to home, MY home. :( I'm sorry. It started with a call from Wegmans, shoplifting. The suspect was armed and fled. It all wound up here, the female police officer shot him. I suspect it's just a one off... This area is pretty safe. We've looked at moving to locations downtown, and security was our main concern, hence staying here in Pittsford. My phone? ;) Hah! I am having a helluva time getting back to work now... Quote
Iron Crotch Posted January 22, 2014 Report Posted January 22, 2014 Just moved into my new home (finally) and my new neighbor is a liquor and wine wholesaler. She has hundreds of cases of top shelf stuff in her home and can get me anything I want at cost. ...I've already apologized to my liver for what I'm about to do to it... Quote
Eleven Posted January 22, 2014 Report Posted January 22, 2014 So, I don't know about awesome, but, if any of you live in Rochester/Pittsford and have heard about the shooting at the McDonald's on Monroe ave, I'm the building next door and am looking right at it. I sit by the window so just I'm sitting here watching them place evidence markers and check under cars. We heard popping noises and made jokes about a shooting. And apparently there was. My boss went outside and talked to a detective, word is the sheriff shot the suspect in the parking lot. A female police officer was taken away in an ambulance. My car and several of my coworkers' cars are in the part of the parking lot that is cordoned off by a police tape perimeter. Exciting times. I just hope everyone is ok. There were at least 15 cop cars here when it started a half hour or so ago. No sirens were used, so we just happened to look out and see a ton of flashing lights. sorry for potato phone quality. I heard that Grimace is in custody. Quote
josie Posted January 22, 2014 Report Posted January 22, 2014 I heard that Grimace is in custody. Grimace is exactly what I did upon reading your comment. So my timely twittering got me called by a local news station. Hoping I didn't say anything TOO stupid. Quote

So, it's good to be driving a loaner sometimes. ;) I can picture your conversation at the rental car place turning it back in: "no, I'm certain that bullet hole in the passenger door was there when I picked it up. Didn't we note that on the checklist?" Glad your safe. Quote

Didn't we note that on the checklist?" Glad your safe. haha yeah we were pretty relieved it wasn't a bigger deal than it was. A news team saw my tweets and called me. They asked me to come out into the parking lot beyond the police lines for a quick interview. The police investigator interviewed me quickly to make sure I wasn't a witness to the actual crime and then shooed me out of the building by chasing me with handcuffs. He was a real goof. The other police weren't quite so jovial when I came back in and when we went to leave work later in the night. We were all escorted to our cars which were documented and then had to go past two more checkpoints to leave. Beer time. Quote

Stoner Posted January 23, 2014 Report Posted January 23, 2014 I know I'm late to the party on these things, but I started watching House of Cards last night. I'm pretty sure I'm going to OD on it over the weekend. The problem with ODing is then you have to wait for the next season to start and then watch one episode at a time. There's something about ODing. There's also something about watching old school, appointment television, too. Quote

Also it is an awesome show, and I too am eagerly awaiting the next season. Quote
Assquatch Posted January 23, 2014 Report Posted January 23, 2014 I've heard good things about House of Cards. Do I need to have a passing interest in politics to enjoy the show? (Because I don't). Quote

It's not too West Wing-y, so far anyway. You didn't have to have an interest in meth to enjoy Breaking Bad. I thought about Walt when the Congressman turned to the camera and said something to the effect that money is a McMansion in Sarasota that starts to fall apart after 10 years, and power is a stone building that lasts for centuries. Assquatch Posted January 23, 2014 Report Posted January 23, 2014 I've been meaning to post this for whoever hasn't thought to do it already, and this is as good a thread as any. If you want the Sabres schedule and scores to be added to your iPhone calendar: Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account > Other > Add Subscribed Calendar. In the Server field, enter http://sabres.nhl.com/schedule/full.ics and click "next" Delete the "2013-2014" part of the Description (since the calendar will continue to work in future seasons) (Turn on "Remove Alarms" if you don't want an alert 15 minutes before each game) Click Save The schedule will be added to your calendar, and shortly after they're played the scores will show up (in a non-intrusive way for those that watch on time delay) Surely this works for other smartphones as well. You and I were meant to be. If you enjoy Kevin Spacey's work then you will love House Of Cards. He is brilliant in this show... dare I say Bryan Cranston-esque. There is that quality of the audience getting pushed away by how devious the main character is while still being charmed by his anti-heroism. Quote
josie Posted January 23, 2014 Report Posted January 23, 2014 I just got asked to teach an entire course at RIT this spring. I don't have a teaching degree. I've done a couple small summer intro to illustration classes for high schoolers. The most teaching I ever did was martial arts for a few years quite a while ago. All I can say is... the department must be hella desperate to be coming after local alumni to fill their faculty holes. I may not get it, I may not say yes, my bosses at my full time may not even let me take the time to do it but... I guess I'm just sitting here in awe. I knew the dept. was in trouble but I didn't know it was this bad. Kinda makes me sad. I honestly don't see my repertoire as impressive enough to make sixteen 19-22 year olds listen to me. They're 8 am classes- I guess if I brought in donuts and coffee we could get through anything!!! Quote

I wouldn't be too concerned about your resume...you could be Michaelangelo reincarnated and they'd still be more likely to sleep than pay attention :P Quote

I wouldn't be too concerned about your resume...you could be Michaelangelo reincarnated and they'd still be more likely to sleep than pay attention :P This.. is true. They'll all be late. Most of my profs would change the 8ams to 9ams. And then show up themselves at 11. There's also the whole fact that I'm only 24... and some of these kids could potentially be transfers and be older than me. Could be kind of odd. Quote
