Who Else? Posted January 27, 2012 Report Posted January 27, 2012 NFLs "All-Star" game, the Pro Bowl is on this weekend Exactly. NHL has to compete against that pile of sxxx It makes me wonder why they coinside. The absolute worst weekend for the NFL since preseason started and the NHL throws this out.
SwampD Posted January 27, 2012 Report Posted January 27, 2012 NFLs "All-Star" game, the Pro Bowl is on this weekend Like he said, the NFL is on pause.
nobody Posted January 27, 2012 Report Posted January 27, 2012 Anybody see when Kane looked at the guy next to him and commented about the hot blond ? NBC Sports really needed to do a better job and show off the jersey/coat taking ladies.
shrader Posted January 27, 2012 Report Posted January 27, 2012 I didn't watch, but I heard Alfredsson made a comment about the 2006 Conference Semi-finals. Anyone have the video? TSN has videos of every single pick on their site. Just go to the story about the draft and the video links are on the sidebar.
RazielSabre Posted January 27, 2012 Report Posted January 27, 2012 Just thinking and here's a question for everyone: Since Ovi didn't go because of his suspension and 'not wanting to be a disctraction' was cited as part of the reason (taking that on face value), should Thomas have stepped out of the event for the same reason? I believe he should since there is quite a lot of news surrounding him in particular and it is also distracting from what should be a brilliant event. Then again I hate the 'team captains' format so what do I know, I think it should be N.America vs World or East vs West again.
Tyrannustyrannus Posted January 27, 2012 Report Posted January 27, 2012 TSN has videos of every single pick on their site. Just go to the story about the draft and the video links are on the sidebar. I just watched it, then I watched the goal from 2006. I had to laugh a bit, Pommers is a class act.
Who Else? Posted January 27, 2012 Report Posted January 27, 2012 Then again I hate the 'team captains' format so what do I know, I think it should be N.America vs World or East vs West again. Having all the captains from the eastern Conference was a horrible oversight. Only one North American, all of them being in the NE, and the ties between them made this seem way less authentic. I an not a fan of the All-Star game at all, but right now it is all the pro hockey we got. I like that they tried to spice it up over the last two years with the draft. I just think the coverage could have been less about twitter and last one picked, and more about the accomplishments and ties of the players. I admit I watched the draft and was intrigued with who would go last, but that should not have been the storyline. Show some of the great players who didn't make it like Thornton, Zetterberg, Staal, Callahan, etc. Tell me why the chosen players were more worthy. Show highlights of Lundqvist getting scored on or stoning every player their team picked. Show Chara mugging every forward down low. Please NHL add some personality to the sport. Here was the perfect opportunity and instead we get twiiter junk and the occasional bad joke or comment by Spezza with a Huhuhuhuh stupid dopely laugh at the end.
Sabre Dance Posted January 27, 2012 Report Posted January 27, 2012 They should go back to the original format of the All-Star game...I mean YEARS ago. Have the previous season's Stanley Cup champs play a team made up of all-stars from the rest of the league. Have it mid-season, outdoors (i.e. Winter Classic). The winning team gets bragging rights and a donation to their favorite charity. Losers get a smaller donation. Not perfect, but better than now... Oh, keep the Skills competition, but instead of showing it live on TV, tape it and edit it down to an hour - too much watching players stand around while they reconfigure the ice.

Hockey is a contact sport where players are easily injured. Players today are looked at as more of assets. Playing an All-Star game in the middle of the season that actually looks like a hockey game is detrimental to the various teams the All-Stars are on. Also while 95% of the league has a nice break these players are forced into giving up free time. If you want this game to be representative of the league play it at the end of the year or ditch it completely. Personally I would just like to see some modifications. It has to feel great to be an All-Star, so don't take that away. During the Winter Classic have the All-Stars compete in the skills challenges and do the draft or whatever the league wants short of playing the game. Let all the events and appearances lead upto the Winter Classic. Have it this weekend when the NFL and other sports leagues (minus Basketball) go on hiatus. Play the AHL all star game there the day before. Have the NHL guys comment on their game, the Winter Classic, the legend games (hell they can participate if so desired. Lets give a face to these players, let them shoe some personality. Please sell me more than two players as the face of the league and please let the NHL sell their product, not just some over talented non check Pee Wee game.
spndnchz Posted January 27, 2012 Report Posted January 27, 2012 Looks like Luke Adam doing the hardest shot competition.
nobody Posted January 27, 2012 Report Posted January 27, 2012 Looks like he didn't pick that competition! Per Twitter: LukeJAdam Luke Adam Hardest shot?! Will it be embarresing when I don't break 80? #toughbreak
DumbPuck Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 Not that there is any iota of a chance of this occurring, nor would i hope for it to occurr, but how would you all feel if Pommer charged Tim Thomas during tomorrow's all-star game? I would be at a loss for words. I'm still not certain whether I would feel as if he just humiated my team and my city ... or if he just showed off a giant pair of balls.
deluca67 Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 Patrick Kane was pretty funny during the Breakaway Challenge. The Superman idea was a good one.
Randall Flagg Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 Patrick Kane was pretty funny during the Breakaway Challenge. The Superman idea was a good one. I liked the goalies better than the shooters.
Pville29 Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 Patrick Kane was pretty funny during the Breakaway Challenge. The Superman idea was a good one. Kane is the superman that can save the sabres from falling all the way down to the bottom
Randall Flagg Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 Pierre McGuire to Jamie Benn:"What is the hardest part about the accuracy competition?" WTF?
Randall Flagg Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 I have no idea why that happened
87168 Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 Price just got embarrassed. Way to rep it Pommers!!! :worthy: Pommers again! Well Stamkos is Stamkos but Pommers hung in there. Impressed
Hawerchuk Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 Pommer almost scored on that backhand move in the last round. Very impressed, he got 2nd place overall! - - - - Chara with a 108mph blast to win it 5 yrs in a row. WOW!!!!!! What a shot.
nobody Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 Jason should have stuck with the forehand shot. But in the end, Jason and Luke did the Sabres pretty proud.
darksabre Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 Watching the replay since I didn't get to watch it live. Really enjoying it. Kane in the shoot out was great and Jamie Benn was incredible in the accuracy competition.
OverPowerYou Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 Last years skills competition was better. Also, I didn't see anyone from winnipeg there? Were there other teams without players?
darksabre Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 Stamkos looks just like Jeff Spicoli.
Hawerchuk Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 Last years skills competition was better. Also, I didn't see anyone from winnipeg there? Were there other teams without players? I didn't see one NJ Devil either? You're correct on Winnipeg. Andrew Ladd? Why not, he's a good player for them. Weird. Stamkos looks just like Jeff Spicoli. :w00t:Jeff Spicoli: Well Pierre I'll tell you, hockey's not a sport, it's a way of life, you know, a hobby. It's a way of looking at that ice and saying, "Hey bud, let's party!" [focuses on Pierre's sport coat] Jeff Spicoli: Where'd you get this jacket? Stu Nahan: [evasive] I got this from the NBC network. Let me ask you a question. What's next for Jeff Spicoli? Jeff Spicoli: Heading over to the All Star Game and St Pete Times Forum, and then me and Marty St Louis are going to wing on over to London and jam with the Stones! [to the two girls next to him] Jeff Spicoli: And you guys are invited too!
JJFIVEOH Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 Adam with a 98.7 MPH shot? Nice! It ain't Chara but certainly way more than I thought.
