Samson's Flow Posted January 26, 2012 Report Posted January 26, 2012 thinking outside the box here, how many games do you think it will take our Sabres to score the amount of goals that will be scored in the all star game by both teams? I'm going with 13 games

ubkev Posted January 26, 2012 Report Posted January 26, 2012 Pommers has been good this year. He deserves to go to the game. As for last pick, I'm guessing it could be Alex Edler. Edler plays D and therefore cannot be picked last based on the rules of the draft. A forward has to be the last pick. All goalies must be gone by the end of the 10th, all D-men by the end of the 15th.
SwampD Posted January 26, 2012 Report Posted January 26, 2012 I think it was Bulldog on WGR who broght this up. Chara and Alfredsson are the captains, and it was Pominville who scored on them in OT in the playoffs. Might affect their choices. I kinda doubt it, but it's still interesting.
shrader Posted January 26, 2012 Report Posted January 26, 2012 Last year it was a Hyundai if I recall correctly. Not exactly what a young man with millions to spend is hoping for. And I'll never understand why they give a car to any of these high paid athletes. If they really have to give one away, they should have a contest where some random person is assigned to each player. Then that person gets the car.
apuszczalowski Posted January 26, 2012 Report Posted January 26, 2012 I think it would be funny if both Chara and Alfie got together and decided to draft Kessel last again, as a bit of a running AS Game Joke every year............. The panel on TSN over a week ago were picking who they thought should go first and who might get to be Kessel'd, and Most picked Pomminstein for the Kessel'd spot
WanderingEye Posted January 26, 2012 Report Posted January 26, 2012 Last year it was a Hyundai if I recall correctly. Not exactly what a young man with millions to spend is hoping for. The car was a Honda CR-Z which Kessel actually still owns. There was also a monetary "prize" which he donated to charity.

apuszczalowski Posted January 26, 2012 Report Posted January 26, 2012 I'm guessing after Kessel's embarrassment last year, there is already a predetermined player that is already in the Know. In interviews, Kessel has said it didn't bother him at all, he said its the media that made it a big deal and said it was embarrassingI wouldn't doubt if the entire "draft" is already predetermined by the league and its all set up to look like kids picking in school. With them doing this "draft" every year for the game, it makes me think making the winter classic the All Star game is a better idea. It really brings things back to the way they did it as kids, and your not playing a meaningful game in situations where weather can be a factor

It makes so much sense. And add in the draft factor that you're saying now? Even better. I might even watch the game if they did that. Right now, the only thing that sounds remotely interesting about the all star game is this draft. I would watch that and then turn off the game.

You don't even have to turn the game off cause they do the draft tonight and then don't play the game until Sunday! Tonight they hold the draft, tomorrow might be the Young Stars game or something, Saturday is the Skills competition, and Sunday is the actual All Star game. The NHL really like to drag this out when they could compress it into a long weekend and people would be happy.

The skills competition might have some redeeming qualities, but the week as a whole is dumb. Every all star game is. In this day of huge salaries and ridiculous ticket prices, who really wants to watch these guys pal around and have a good time? The concept of an all star game has really worn out its welcome and I wish it would die.
ROCBuffalo Posted January 26, 2012 Report Posted January 26, 2012 Even if he is the last one picked, he is better then 80% of the other players in the league being picked last. Last years last pick was Kessel, ill take him on my team all day! At least they made the all star team, who cares who gets picked last. It's more embarrassing not to get picked, especially if your making bango bucks eehhhhmmm (stafford) cough (fill in the blank) cough........?

Use the Winter Classic for the all star game and do the draft like we picked teams as a kid. Everyone's stick at center ice and the two captains start tossing sticks into their end of the rink. It is a game of shinny right? Might as well treat it like a real game of shinny.
Tyrannustyrannus Posted January 26, 2012 Report Posted January 26, 2012 I don't think it would bother Pominville at all. He'll go out and have a good game either way. It will be better than when Campbell, Briere and Miller went and all we heard about was how Briere was a free agent and wouldn't be playing for Buffalo the next year...
BuffaloSoldier2010 Posted January 26, 2012 Report Posted January 26, 2012 As cool as it would be to make the classic the ASG, it'll never happen. There's no way you're selling ASG tickets at the same prices your selling the winterclassic tickets right now, not to mention you'd have to sell out a much larger stadium. And then again for the skills competition. Cool idea, but just not financially practical for the league IMO.
Who Else? Posted January 26, 2012 Report Posted January 26, 2012 All-Star game or Toronto vs. Detroit at the big house? I'm willing to go to Ann Arbor for a plain regular season game. No way for All Stars. It would be cool but drop the AS game keep the regular season game and do the other All Star events and festivities. Have the All-Stars on hand for interviews and PR during the game. On another note: What another lost opportunity for the NHL. Regardless of whichever sport people like alot or the most, there is nothing but junk on for the next 5 days. The NFL is on pause and by the end of the week who wants to here another thing about the super bowl teams and players College football is over and the draft is still afew months away. MLB hasn't started NASCAR ditto. For all the people who don't really like basketball, this would be the week to draw some interest. Instead NHL offers up this load of crap.
spndnchz Posted January 26, 2012 Report Posted January 26, 2012 I'd like to thank papazoid for letting me hijack the thread. We needed one for the break. And with no further adieu, I present Pominville and Adam. I imagine Pominville going "hey I need one of those" I imagine Adam taking two bags and filling them up so full he can't carry them.

LGR4GM Posted January 27, 2012 Report Posted January 27, 2012 someone post when pommers gets drafted... IMHO hes earned a high pick.

papazoid Posted January 27, 2012 Author Report Posted January 27, 2012 down to final 3 players left.......Pominville still available.... whew.....Alfredson saved him...... Logan Couture of San Jose Sharks picked last.
Eleven Posted January 27, 2012 Report Posted January 27, 2012 All-Star draft is even dumber than North America vs. World. WOW, complete suckage. (This isn't about Pominville, this is about gimmicks.) Either make it between conferences, or don't do it. (Not doing it at all is preferable, IMO; all-star games just are silly in about every sport I can think of.)
