Stoner Posted May 5, 2014 Report Posted May 5, 2014 You missed the whole point. You're not really supposed to enjoy them. You are supposed to tell everyone that they are the best and that you can't wait to eat more. It's part of the WNY compact. So it's Buffalo's Primanti sandwich? Quote
Andrew Amerk Posted May 6, 2014 Report Posted May 6, 2014 So it's Buffalo's Primanti sandwich? I would hope not. Buffalo has chicken wings to hang its hat on. I've had Mighty drunk, sober, as a teen, and about a year ago (when one opened in Rochester). None of those times was it any good. I will never eat it again. Quote
darksabre Posted May 6, 2014 Report Posted May 6, 2014 I had a pile of three cheese nacho burritos on Saturday. At 27 I'm still satisfied by those delicious and terrible things. Quote
ubkev Posted May 6, 2014 Report Posted May 6, 2014 Taco Bell is still my fake Mexican food of choice. Protested cinco de mayo tonight by only drinking Blue, playing pitch with my lady and watching hockey. Fun night. Quote
Guest Sloth Posted May 6, 2014 Report Posted May 6, 2014 Water. Fasting for any medical test is a pain in the butt. Quote

A Mighty Taco meal is not to be enjoyed, so much as endured. Same goes for Primanti Bros. Edited May 6, 2014 by Eleven Quote
Claude_Verret Posted May 6, 2014 Report Posted May 6, 2014 If someone handed me a Mighty Taco right now I'd just stuff an M-80 in it, throw it in the toilet, and skip the middle man. Quote

That's all you can reasonably say about it, any other Mexican (chain or otherwise) is better. Quote
Stoner Posted May 6, 2014 Report Posted May 6, 2014 The Mighty Taco experience made me realize my New Year's Resolution about eating better was going down the, uh, toilet. So I've eaten healthy today. I'm actually having some quinoa as part of my dinner. I've never had it. I resisted the urge to butter and salt it. It's quite tasty. There's a lot of flavor there on its own. Quote
Stoner Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 Wow, this stuff fills you up fast, which is good. But I wolfed down about two cups of it and now I think it's reconstituting itself in my stomach. I think it would make a good substitute for rice in rice pudding. I got nothing else on quinoa. I promise. Quote
biodork Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 Good on you, PA. Quinoa is quite flexible and there are lots of great recipes out there that use it. I think one of my favorites so far is mediterranean quinoa salad (olives, tomatoes, cucumber, and feta with some lemon juice, olive oil, and red wine vinegar. Yum. I've tired of mint juleps and was looking for another whiskey recipe to use my mint (out of rum, or I'd do a mojito). Found the whiskey smash, and I must say it's quite good! Could definitely see myself drinking these in the summer. And lol yeah quinoa is high in protein, so not surprised you're full after 2 cups of it! Quote
josie Posted May 7, 2014 Report Posted May 7, 2014 Out of wine, mostly out of beer, out of vodka, out of gin... Oh hey, ginger ale and Kraken. Not really a dark and stormy, more of a broke and lazy. Oh well, they can't all be zingers. Quinoa- I like it when I remember to let it sit and soak. I am not one who abounds with patience when it comes to food... there's a sad reason most of my dinners consist of scrambled eggs and a grapefruit if I'm feeling adventurous. But I have heard quinoa is quite good with a bit of brown sugar and cinnamon as a dessert. Quote

I take the lazy route and don't rinse it, either (I don't have a mesh strainer fine enough). Like this: http://www.skinnytaste.com/2013/04/mediterranean-quinoa-salad.html Quote

The quinoa at Tops here was like five bucks for 16 oz. So when I tried to strain it and started losing bits of it down the drain, I freaked out! Quote

I had no idea what to do with it, and every recipe I read warned that if I didn't soak it and then rinse and strain, it would taste like soap. If that isn't true, then I may have another quinoa fling in my future. Quote

Yeah I think I heard you have to rinse it or it'll taste bitter, but the brand I originally bought is pre-washed: http://www.earthlychoice.com/quinoa.html Quote

biodork Posted May 8, 2014 Report Posted May 8, 2014 (edited) I like mine in chicken broth instead of water. For some reason I've never tried making it with chicken broth, but I'll bet it's good that way. I had some kind of quinoa pattie a while back from the prepared section of Whole Foods that was really tasty, so someday I'll have to try and re-create those. Tonight was salmon patties with a yogurt-dill sauce. Not too shabby! Edited May 8, 2014 by biodork Quote

biodork Posted May 8, 2014 Report Posted May 8, 2014 Like a quinoa porcupine, the meatballs with rice sticking out? I'm guessing it was vegan though. What else was in the patty? No they were just small patties, almost like an appetizer size (too small for burgers). It was definitely vegetarian if not vegan, and I know there were carrots but I couldn't say what else. Nice, savory flavor, though. Looking online there are two possible recipes from Whole Foods and both look similar to what I had: http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/recipe/quinoa-garden-cakes-lemony-yogurt http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/recipe/quinoa-and-sweet-potato-cakes Quote
