Wharf Rat Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 I thought the rottenness this season could be attributed to injuries and poor goaltending. Based on the last couple of games, I have to questioin the effort. I have always thought of Lindy's teams as being the "hardest working team in hockey". I haven't seen it this year. Ten in a row on the road. That is unbelievable. I was willing to let him finish out the season by way of thanks for 14 years. But I don't know now. Terry may have to make a change immediately. Kick Darcy to the curb too.
nbash Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 Okay, here's what is particularly irritating about the Connelly avatar -- we were so happy to see him go, and now we'd be better off with him than with Leino, who is not and never will be a center, but most assuredly is a complete bust.
Weave Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 I didn't really consider that the team had quit in any point during the season. Until the last two games. Last night especially struck me as a game where the players on the ice were just going through the motions. Prior to that, I thought there were players that could and should play harder, but they hadn't given up. I think a good portion of the team reached "giving up" last night. There were some real similarities to what we saw the last two games against Washington. And we laughed at Washington.
That Aud Smell Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 just saw gleason post in response to a question that he's "hearing various things from people" (within the league, i think) and that there people "within the organization who think" that the players have tuned out lindy, that miller is being cancerous (my word), that faith in regier has been lost, "etc." the detonation is coming. haroo! also on the team quitting on lindy, bucky indicates that he knows for a fact that there are two players on the team who have wanted lindy gone for some time, and that it now appears that the number of such players has grown to ~6. Requesting a merge with the "have the sabres quit" thread.

Many on this board thought the players quite on Boudreau and decided they wanted him gone. It happened and it really is beginning to look like the Sabres (many of them anyway, IMO) want Lindy gone.

There is just no life in this team. They look like a bunch of guys skating around trying not to draw attention to themselves.
LabattBlue Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 ...also on the team quitting on lindy, bucky indicates that he knows for a fact that there are two players on the team who have wanted lindy gone for some time, and that it now appears that the number of such players has grown to ~6. Inquiring minds want to know? I would bet money on Vanek being one of them...and I wouldn't blame him one bit.

I also beleive that any team has a handfull of players that don't like their coach for some reason or another. Again, way to go out on a limb Buckster.
nobody Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 also on the team quitting on lindy, bucky indicates that he knows for a fact that there are two players on the team who have wanted lindy gone for some time, and that it now appears that the number of such players has grown to ~6. Let's hope we will see at least 4 of those players traded away first. It doesn't matter who the coach is; some of these players will not all of a sudden change into players that every fan in the league wishes they had on their team.

Who Else? Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 Of course they quit. Just listen to the giant line of bull after the Detroit game. Lindy said this was not a low point. Pomminstein said they played better when they were down five, when Detroit showed class and took the foot off the gas so much they were actually pressing the brakes. Another player commented that Detroit was a real "team". I don't even have to go into the MIller stuff.

Marvelo Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 Lucic shattered the Sabres glass jaw with that hit. They haven't been able to live it down across the league and have been laying goose eggs ever since, in self-pity. Team Fragile.
Sabres Fan in NS Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 Lucic shattered the Sabres glass jaw with that hit. They haven't been able to live it down across the league and have been laying goose eggs ever since, in self-pity. Team Fragile. I believe it was GoDD, but it may have been another poster, but it was pointed out that the Lucic hit was the defining moment for this team this year. It most certainly was and I would say it was the defining moment of the past 14 years. Ultimately, I think that hit spelled the eventual demise of the DR and LR regime.
Sabre Dance Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 I grow tired of the endless speculation on how to improve the team, who quit, blah, blah.... I will be thankful for the All-Star break (which is extremely telling). Meanwhile, there will be two good football games Sunday and Hockey Night in Canada Saturday night. Since I can't watch the Sabres anyway (even if I wanted to, the TWC deal you know), I'll catch up on my reading. Call me when something happens. ZZZZzzzzz......
K-9 Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 To say they quit is an understatement. Maybe I'm too old school but a team of players that quits on its coach says more about the players than it does the coach. In volumes. But, like the old saying goes, "you can't fire the players," so Lindy will need to be the one to leave. And it will do him a world of good. When many of these same players are having trouble finding jobs in the league, let alone being stars, Lindy will have no problem finding another coaching gig. He'll have his pick when he decides to come back to the game. But for his own sanity, he should get out of Dodge. GO SABRES!!!
Stormin Norman Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 The title the "hardest working team in hockey". was given to Ted Nolan's team, I think the title of Lindy's teams has been the biggest bunch of pussies in the NHL. SPOT ON! You have captured the nagging reality of this team beautifully. So here's the question: Is this a Lindy issue or a Darcy issue? One could argue that Darcy has acquired all these mentally and/or physically fragile players and Lindy's left to coach them. (For example, we get Leino. What the hell do you do with THAT? Or Boyes.). Or are these the right players, and Lindy coaches the life out of them? (Examples: Luke Adam, Paul Gaustad, maybe even Zack Kassian while he was up).
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 I believe it was GoDD, but it may have been another poster, but it was pointed out that the Lucic hit was the defining moment for this team this year. It most certainly was and I would say it was the defining moment of the past 14 years. Ultimately, I think that hit spelled the eventual demise of the DR and LR regime. Plenty of posters saw that as a defining moment. Maybe you are thinking that I called it a "Black Swan". You can keep the illusion of prosperity up or live in denial for only so long before something out of your control comes along at an unexpected time and blows any control you had over the perception to bits. That's what happened. First the hockey public saw it was over. Then many Sabres fans understood it was over. Then the Sabres themselves understood it for what it was...and have no answer for it.
SwampD Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 I know he had a somewhat OK year last year, but I think Ruff lost Miller when he met him on the ice with that huge smile on his face just seconds after Miller lost the gold. I know I've felt differently about Ruff since that day.

He'll have his pick when he decides to come back to the game. But for his own sanity, he should get out of Dodge. GO SABRES!!! This. I have been reading and posting on this board going on five years. I said a few years back in a thread that this idea of best friends growing up, going to school and getting a job together had a low probability of producing a championship team. I imagine it like getting that first real paying job with all my fraternity buddies that I partied and hung with through college and now were all working at the same company in same department and responsible for getting serious and making it productive, of course some of the fratenity attitiude never dies and stays with some of us but were buddies so we sure would like to see each other make as much money as we can. I have never bought into the approach that a hive collective fraternity lifetime relationship would produce a high functioning effective organization. It takes all kinds of diiferent types to make the chemistry of a super achieving group unless it's the borg collective. Just look at how many of the same type of players and the players that came up together from Rochester and make up a good portion fo this team and you know who most of if not all of these 6 players might be. To be fair Lindy has had a lot to do with the current malaise with the way he has and continues to handle certain players including his recent choices for alternates and captain and who gets what ice time in what situations and who he sits. It's unfortunate but changing one or two is easier but it can't stop there and major changes need to occur up and down this team. That means DR and ultimately break up this brat pack of players as well because a second mutiny is easier once you have had your first succesful one, aye Mr. Christian.

He'll have his pick when he decides to come back to the game. But for his own sanity, he should get out of Dodge. GO SABRES!!! Agree completely. The team has quit, and at any level that's just embarrassing. I don't care how much you hate your coach, at least play for each other....but of course, after the MIller incident and Goose last night, it's pretty clear they don't really care about each other either. And of course, as Roby said on the radio this morning, they've quit on themselves. No sense of pride, it's pathetic. Of course Lindy has played a role with his choice of captains, inability to get the team to buy into his system (or devise a system they will buy into), and some head-scratching lineup decisions. I think what we're seeing out of Lindy now is just desperation, the man is defeated and doesn't know what to do. Even the greatest coaches ever reach a point with a group of guys where it's just not working anymore, it happens. I'm just glad that even those who think Ruff is a bad coach also acknowledge the players are a big part of the problem.
kballhog Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 I know they hockey the Sabres are playing is just painful to watch. It is not just the losing, it is just what I am seeing or not seeing on the ice! STOP THE MADNESS!!
TheChimp Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 I have always thought of Lindy's teams as being the "hardest working team in hockey". I'm not trying to be mean, but if this is what you've always thought, then you haven't been watching since 2005, because by the season directly after their ECF loss to Carolina, they've worked less and less every year.
