Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted July 26, 2012 Report Posted July 26, 2012 And where did all that get them until Richards came around and Lundqvist had a career year? Worse results than the Sabres. Thanks for supporting my point. Considering their top 4 defensemen averaged 23 years old last year......and almost won a President's Trophy........instead of having the highest salaried team in the league going into the season and missing the playoffs........ You need Atlas to support all the crappy "points" you are making. Like most GM's, Darcy's role is to sack him if his boss breaths down his neck. Also I dare you to go to work tomorrow and 'grab your boss by the collar and shake him up'. That has to be the dumbest suggestion. I just shook him by the collar. There, I saved you 24 hours of anticipation. My boss is mad at me for wasting 38 seconds of response time.

MattPie Posted July 26, 2012 Report Posted July 26, 2012 I'm more interested in the personality profile than the actual experience. Patrick and Teppo may very well end up decent coaches....but are either of them going to challenge Ruff? It goes along with the types of players Lindy handed letters to....and the Pecas/Gilmores/Drurys/Brieres leaving town. Clever, when the numbers add up against you, switch to something that there's no metric for and no way that we outsiders can even have an accurate assessment of. Well done!

Well done! I think the numbers were interesting and not my point....or the original point. Somehow I doubt that you did. I can believe your boss is mad at you, like most people. :P You are missing an important part of the equation, like the father and son go to the hospital and the Dr. says "I can't operate on him, he's my son" This isn't a Chick-fil-A or a GM assembly line. These are organizations worth hundreds of millions that are paying men millions of dollars to oversee men who make tens of millions. The teepee holds 40 or 50 key people. You want people that will stand up for what they believe in and verbally challenge someone if they feel they are on the wrong track. There are other industries like this as well. Confrontations happen behind the scenes, even between "superiors" and "underlings", and at the end of the day if it was about the good of the whole.....it passes.
RazielSabre Posted July 26, 2012 Report Posted July 26, 2012 Aside from this endlessly repeated argument do we know any more about Ruff's 'system?!'
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted July 26, 2012 Report Posted July 26, 2012 When his already stated his not a Buffalo fan why are you still rising to this? His obviously trolling, that much is clear. No....just a patriotic fan that believed a coup should have happened years ago.

Patrick and Teppo may very well end up decent coaches....but are either of them going to challenge Ruff? It goes along with the types of players Lindy handed letters to....and the Pecas/Gilmores/Drurys/Brieres leaving town. Who AT ALL in the ENTIRE ORGANIZATION is there to grab Ruff by the collar to shake him up when he is out of line? Name 1 person who has the tools? I can't. Darcy is probably afraid of him, and he's his boss. I think at it's core there's a lot of interesting grist for the mill in the points you and PA have brought up although I generally agree with True's assessment that on-ice talent (combined with drive and effort) is what wins hockey games, not coaching. Also, although Gilmour (and certainly others) bristled with Lindy's style and personality I don't think there's any evidence to support Ruff being the reason Drury, Briere and Peca left. Managerial accountability is important for reeling in a loose cannon within any organization, but I think the coach has to have unilateral control over the lockerroom. The great coaches/managers in every major sport have been borderline fascistic in their approach. Challenging a coach's authority will almost definitely weaken him in the eyes of the players. If Lindy's the wrong coach, then so be it--- but if he's going to be the guy then he needs to be left alone, not shaken by the collar like a schoolboy.
RazielSabre Posted July 26, 2012 Report Posted July 26, 2012 No....just a patriotic fan that believed a coup should have happened years ago. Then why do you always reply to us a 'you' when referring to the Buffalo Sabres. If I were part of the organisation I would be ashamed to call you a fan. Sorry, thats the truth.
Punch Posted July 26, 2012 Report Posted July 26, 2012 No....just a patriotic fan that believed a coup should have happened years ago. And for anyone that doubts GoDD's fandom--- dude's passionate about the Sabres, even if some of us feel he's somewhat misguided. It's clear to me that his commentary comes from a place of love and frustration with watching the object of that love slowly dying (according to his perception, that is).

If I were part of the organisation I would be ashamed to call you a fan. Sorry, thats the truth. I'm in a nice mood, so I will explain. Just like "grab someone by the collar" doesn't mean you have to physically grab them by the collar and shake them....although it may need to get to that point. You need strong personality in some leaders that aren't afraid of losing their job, or reputation.....if someone is off big time, you tell it to them to their face. If they continue with no regard, then go public if need be. There should be no need to go public if there is mutual respect and the person in top spot is a true leader. Check all of my posts. I'm as guilty as anyone else by calling the Sabres "we". "We need Doan, etc." When someone is trying to defend a horrible trait that I would like to see be rid of from the Sabres.....it becomes "your" team. I don't want to be associated with defending a bunch of purse swinging pansies that have entrenched leaders who put them together and have failed. I am disgusted with some of it, and in making a point.....it is "your" team. When doing something respectful that makes me proud to associate with them.....it becomes "we" or "my" I am proud of the Buffalo Bills from top down and have been proud to associate with them the past 2, going on 3 years. They usually always get refered to as "we". I don't care if they were 6-10....they were character guys who tried hard and I can respect....and the leadership had a plan in place that I could see.....even if people made fun of me for seeing it. It's like when a kid gets in trouble and a parent tells the other "Your son got suspended in school today." There is a bit of hope this year at least......but we are decelerating our acceleration at the moment.

I point out your ideal model has had worse results than your garbage dump model, until your ideal model got that elusive #1 center. You respond with a criticism of the GM (and please, don't attempt to convince me you think this roster SHOULD be the highest paid). Sounds about par for the course  And yes, your young D argument is important...until you realize they were younger the year before, when they finished worse than the Sabres. Until they got better players, your boy Tortorella and his great staff were less successful than Ruff and his awful staff.

Arguing and disagreeing aside I have to hand it to you, consistently almost all your posts are destroyed but others, normally many vs you yet you persist. You maintain your anti-Sabres agenda in the face of it all. Fair play, not many would persist and respect to you for that. Yeah, I just insulted you with MS Paint. Booyah. Ohh thats too funny.

Not a single thing you or anyone else has written has "destroyed" what Ghost has written. And he doesn't write posts with "dumbest thread ever" or "dumbest seggestion ever" in them. The points that he and PA have brought up are completely valid and worth discussing. I only haven't jumped in because I haven't felt the need. He's handling the topic quite nicely. And how about you just hang on to that award for us.

There you go.....in 2011 the Rangers were 3 points worse than the Sabres and last year the Rangers were 20 points better than the Sabres. In 2011 the Rangers ages in order of scoring were: Dubinsky 24 Gaborik 29 Callahan 26 Stepan 20 Ansimov 22 Boyle 25 Girardi 26 Prust 27 Staal 24 Then add last years top performers DelZotto 21 McDonagh 21 Hagelin 23 This year you have going into the season: Richards 32 Nash 28 Gaborik 30 Callahan 27 Hagelin 24 Stepan 22 Boyle 27 Staal 25 Girardi 28 McDonagh 23 DelZotto 22 Maybe.....when identifying a young core to build around, and decideing to take a breather for a year in order to get them experience.......then making a huge jump the next year and setting up with your entire team in their prime or years away from it.......and adding a franchise player to the mix a year after finishing 1 point out of #1 in the league.....and STILL looking to add gritty experience to a team that was at the top of the league in hitting and size.......all while missing the Stanley Cup by 2 games.......... Yeah.....I tend to look up to that model versus the "tuck your tail and hide" model the Sabres have used over the years. You really try too hard. Sometimes you just have to admit when someone has the better of "your" team.
nfreeman Posted July 26, 2012 Report Posted July 26, 2012 This has been a pretty good debate, although Raziel needs to learn that not every thought should be posted, and those that are need to be phrased less obnoxiously. I'll just add that no one here has any idea what Teppo and Patrick are like with Lindy behind closed doors, or for that matter how effective they are as assistant coaches.
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted July 26, 2012 Report Posted July 26, 2012 That's better control than my Chz in nothing but overalls squinting at the solar eclipse. Edit: intended for Physics

I am Defecting Posted July 27, 2012 Report Posted July 27, 2012 If I were on a boat, say the S.S. Bison, hunting for a hit season, the Captain that I would rather have would be sane Lindy Ruff, rather than the mad Torterella. Any other way would be fiction!
