Who Else? Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 Lindy should just walk into the room and say "Anyone who wants to get traded, Darcy is waiting in the hallway for you" "Anyone in this room that's given up and isn't pissed off enough about losing to go kick some ass tonight, the press box is upstairs" "Anyone who has a problem with me come into my office" Whoever is left in the locker room plays. Great idea, Where's the bodies? If Kassian had to go down because of cap reasons, how can anyone sit?
Claude_Verret Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 The sad fact is that I honestly believe that Lindy Ruff is a more than capable NHL coach, I don't even think the current state of the Sabres is his fault. I think this season died when Gaustad looked the other way. The thing is, the best way to break the downward spiral is to fire Ruff. It's not guaranteed that it will work, but it has worked out many places and in many sports before. Look at LA for example, fire their 'big name' coach and turned their season around (so far) I'be been saying this for years. I want Ruff gone, but I still think he's a good coach. I think he needs the change of scenery just as much as the players need a new coach to lead them. Fire Lindy, let him go somewhere else and let's turn this ship around here. Everybody wins!
nfreeman Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 I think this season died when Gaustad looked the other way. Not just Gaustad. The captain was on the ice at the time, was the closest to the action, got pushed away and went meekly on with his business. There's of course no way of knowing what would've happened if he'd made like Danny Gare or Darcy Tucker and crosschecked Lucic hard in the mouth, resulting in lost teeth, gushing blood, a brawl and a 6-game suspension, but I think the season would've unfolded differently.

I didnt necessarily think this at the time, but I've heard it has caused a rift in the room. Did they not stick up for Miller bc they are pansies or because they dont like Miller. Both i believe.

Did they not stick up for Miller bc they are pansies or because they dont like Miller. Both i believe. I vote it's because they're p*ssies. If it was just a case of not liking a player then nobody on this team likes anybody because nobody sticks up for anybody else. Witness the hit on Gaustad last night. There's no doubt they are p*ssies. And while Ruff doesn't want them taking stupid penalties I doubt very much he can stomach how these guys wimp out in defense of each other. Ruff NEVER played the game like that and I don't think he coaches that way, either. GO SABRES!!!
ROC Sabres Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 Hockey. YAY! Sabres Hockey. meh Hope the rest did them some good.
LaFontaineToMogilny Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 Not just Gaustad. There's of course no way of knowing what would've happened if he'd made like Danny Gare or Darcy Tucker and crosschecked Lucic hard in the mouth, resulting in lost teeth, gushing blood, a brawl and a 6-game suspension, but I think the season would've unfolded differently. No one did anything, if I recall our gigantic defender was on the ice as well. Of the guys on the ice though, I would expect the dirty handy work to fall on Gaustad. When he looked the other way no one else stepped up. It exposed the Sabres as players who are happy to hide behind each other. So when I single out Gaustad it is because that's where the response should have come from but didn't. I also believe that his inaction served as a bail out for the rest of the guys on the ice, which is the tragic flaw with the team: No one to lead from the front. And yes, Pominville is a great player but in my opinion a lousy captain. Edit: But much have been said and made of this incident already, sorry to bring it up again, in a totally non related game thread none the less. So to keep it relatively on topic: I see today's game as the true watermark game for this team. If they don't respond with crazy intensity against the Jets the team is truly dead. Losing to Detroit and Chicago wasn't a huge surprise. Losing to the Islanders though should hurt, and getting called out and humiliated after back to back blow outs has to light a fire. If not, they might as well start forfeiting their games. At least then no one will risk getting hit, right?

For a comparison to another sport, even the legendary Phil Jackson, he of 11 championships, lost his team at the end and got swept out of the playoffs. You could argue that was the second time he lost control of the Lakers, as with the Shaq-Kobe feud. It happens, coaches have a shelf life and unless 80% of the roster gets turned over in the offseason, Ruff has reached his. I think he'll go elsewhere and be very successful, and I'm perfectly OK with that, because it's over here.

Lookin' good!" <Roy responds> "I think he said something about the press being pissed off ... whatever."
MattPie Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 1.2.3.4.5.6...we want 7? Thats what I expect from Jets, think about it Islanders 4-2 Red Wings 5-0 Blackhawks 6-2 Can only expect they keep up the trend, 7-3 Jets Pommers actually gets the hat trick tonight. The pattern there is pretty obvious, Jets 7-0.
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 Win one for the Gimper....
spndnchz Posted January 19, 2012 Author Report Posted January 19, 2012 No Goose tonight. Still hurt. No call ups. I assume McCormick's back in.

I'll tell you my response to that. I'm activating Miller tonight over Fleury. I think we're finally going to win one. Not sure if Pitt is against NY.

Robviously Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 No Goose tonight. Still hurt. I don't know what we're supposed to do without Gaustad and his height.
K-9 Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 I don't know what we're supposed to do without Gaustad and his height. I can only hope nobody runs our goaltender without Goose there to retaliate. GO SABRES!!!
