Bullwinkle Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 We are one step closer to getting Yakupov!
LGR4GM Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 Aside from Chz, I agree with this assessment of the situation. It's similar to football. You spend all your time chasing the other team's offense that you can't generate any of your own. Our D is getting killed because our offense can't convert when they have the chance, and cannot sustain enough pressure to let the D get in a groove. They use to be able to get it out quickly. Other teams see the system we're playing. IMHO the Sabres can't change it up quick enough. More so the offense isn't scoring. Generally then the sense is the offense is failing to click, score, and help clear the zone and in effect the defense is breaking under the pressure? I don't want to wait for next year to see the sabres in the playoffs. Please. 2008-2010 was bad enough After watching this past week unfold, I regret with all my heart to say the following: The best thing that can happen to the Sabres at this point in time, is to lose. Missing the playoffs is the only thing that can force a change in the status quo and that means we must miss by enough to show how far away from a cup this team truly is. 12-15 in the east should do it.
Neo Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 We are one step closer to getting Yakupov! interesting. i know little about him. 101 pt year and -2
SwampD Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 Lindys on I just don't care what he has to say.

TrueBlueGED Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 When the camera showed the bench at the end of the game, Ruff was robot-like and emotionless too. Yea, he was included in my bench statement. Said it elsewhere, he just looks like a beaten man, has nothing left to get this group going. What happened to the guy who threw a water bottle, who looked like he was going to climb over the glass and fight Terry Murray, the guy who told his goons to go out and run 'em? He's just got nothing left for this team, and barring 80% roster turnover, he's got to go too. At this point firing him is more merciful than punishment. No sustained pressure/forecheck, and the defense wears down or makes mistakes from constant zone presence. At this point I'd say sustaining pressure is more important than scoring goals, at least then our D might have the energy so we don't give up 4, 5 or 6 goals.
biodork Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 Xrays negative on Kaleta but can't walk right now

You have to hustle and work hard to have sustained pressure.
TrueBlueGED Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 We are one step closer to getting Yakupov! Yes, just what we need is yet another small skill winger. I realize you shouldn't turn down potentially elite talent staring you in the face, it's just so frustrating that the year we might actually bottom out, the draft doesn't have what we most desperately need: elite center talent.
Neo Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 Ellis may be my favorite Sabre. That says it all.
SwampD Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 Why does every Sabre in their post game interview sound like Nepoleon Dynamite's brother?
Andrew Amerk Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 Why does every Sabre in their post game interview sound like Nepoleon Dynamite's brother? Enroth usually sounds more like Pedro.
SwampD Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 Enroth usually sounds more like Pedro.

We (every team) could use a kid of his talent level (Yakupov) regardless of what position he plays or how tall he is. Trust me, whoever ends up with the first pick will NOT trade it.
SabreFX Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 SNIP Yup, the offense is the problem. At this point I'd say sustaining pressure is more important than scoring goals, at least then our D might have the energy so we don't give up 4, 5 or 6 goals. I agree that the offense hasn't been able to maintain sustained pressure leading to a quick return to the defensive zone, but I keep seeing the D consistently quit the second an opposing player crosses the blue line. Nobody, with the exception of McNabb once every 3 games stands anybody up at the blue line. My greatest hope for Regehr was that he'd be a true shut-down D-man, but even when he hits it's far into the zone along the wall and often behind the net. I'm tired of the collapsing D. It's not doing them any good to drop so deep into their zone standing a few feet apart and allowing so many shots. It's your zone: DEFEND IT! Make guys sorry they crossed the blue line with the puck and knock them the hell out. You don't need to jump 3 feet in the air with your elbows out like Derian Hatcher or anything, but c'mon! We keep seeing the same move on the PK too which every team has figured out in the past couple of weeks: four Sabres perfectly arranged in a box about 5 feet from each other, directly in front of Miller or Enroth, with their sticks waist high, standing still or skating backwards until the goalie can't see a damn thing in front of him. The ol' collapsing box has its place, but it gives the opposition tons of room to pass and shoot and like another poster mentioned earlier, you can pretty much tell 10 seconds in advance when they're going to get scored on.
TrueBlueGED Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 We (every team) could use a kid of his talent level (Yakupov) regardless of what position he plays or how tall he is. Trust me, whoever ends up with the first pick will NOT trade it. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't be unhappy with him. I'd just be a lot happier if there was a Nugent-Hopkins available...although maybe there will be by the draft, if I remember correctly RNH wasn't always the top prospect. It's like last year the Bills drafted #3, and everybody knows we need a true franchise QB, but none were there, so we got Dareus. I think Dareus is going to be an absolute stud for a long time, but we were still unable to fill our #1 team need. Frustrating.
SwampD Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 Some random thoughts on the game- -MAG is better than Weber,.. he just is, get over it. -Sekera and Myers are going to be mainstays for us for a ong time (at least I hope they are). They're both pretty good. -I'll say it again, the offside wing in our zone,.. wtf are they doing (and it's the system and has been for a long time)? It's just brutal to watch. They have to skate so much to accomplish so little. -Every player on our team seams to skate past the scoring areas. They need to learn to stop in front of the net. -Upon furthur reflection, I have to believe that a Bloody Mary made with bacon flavored vodka has to be as close to heaven on Earth as one could find. That's all I got.
calti Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 i'm not a big sabres history expert--didnt watch much hockey betw mid 80s and late 90s. but this is the worst sabres team i have seen.the least competitive. can you guys tell me when we had a worse sabres team?

That's when they got Pierre Turgeon with the #1 overall draft pick (the only other time that happened was with Perreault. Here's a classic anthem by Donna McDaniel and the late great Tommy Calandra from a time period when simple optimism was still possible. Now all we have is jaded. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdknOwK2GgM

LaLaLaFontaine Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 Oh man did Lindy Ruff sold his soul to the devil to remain as Sabres coach forever? No other team in any sports i know would still have the responsible people for this disaster on board. I never had so much hopes and dreams for any of my other favorite teams in any other sports and see them destroyed, devastated and extincted so fast and so hard like that. The most expensive team is playing like chicken. If this would be my team, i would have dumped the respnsible people much earlier and would have sent them home deaf, because i wouldn't have stopped shouiting at these heartless and honorless bunch of wannabe coaches and GMs. I really can't stand it anymore. The sport i love most is currently reduced to a repeating vomiting ######, everytime i see a whole or condensed game of the team i love. Sorry for my hard language, but i really need to write this of my soul.
Neo Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 The combination of expectation, performance and time make this squad perhaps the most unenjoyable. Worst, no. Least favorite, yes.
