darksabre Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 As much as it pains me to credit Mike Schopp with anything, he makes an interesting point in his blog-posting at WGR55's site. He says something to the effect that Lindy, primarily, is "Buffalo"; that he's "ours", not only because he's coached so long here, but because he was a player here, makes his home here, etc. He was the one who said "no goal..." and that we feel, maybe tacitly, that he's a member of the WNY family (which he is) and we want to succeed with him. I can dig that. And it is sad in a way because we have to boot one of "our own". But, ultimately, the fans here are owed a long over-due winning team. Unless we want to run the hockey team like we run politics - vote for the same type of people, never do anything about poor performers or learn to live with it. Bitch and moan, but really never do anything serious about it. Personally, I'm all for change in a huge way both politically and for the hockey team. Hell, I'm looking for change on the scale of aliens landing and setting up camp in Delaware park (preferably right in the middle of the stupid golf course). Double Yes.

And this is OT, but responsive to your post (and at this point I think OT stuff is more interesting than Sabres stuff): http://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2012/01/why-does-buffalo-pay-for-its-teachers-to-have-plastic-surgery/251533/ In Buffalo, New York, the heart of the American rust-belt, the public school system pays for its teachers to get plastic surgery. Hair removal. Miscrodermabrasian. Liposuction. If you can name the procedure, it's probably covered.
SwampD Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 It was Harrington, he even said as much on his twitter. And it would have been a meaningful question if it wasn't already answered several times already. Maybe he didn't like the answers, but that's really besides the point--you're not going to get anything else. Come up with a new question. To me it was just a crappy journalist going to a coach's press conference with 1 question worth of material. Sorry, I confused Harrington with Hamilton. You are right. I still think it's a valid question, though. Noone else is demanding any sort of accountability, so it was refreshing for me to hear someone demand it of anyone in the organ-eye-zation. I'm done with Ruff.
spndnchz Posted January 19, 2012 Author Report Posted January 19, 2012 I'm optimistic our chances of getting a better draft pick will improve. Maybe I'm just a bad sport, but at 6-2 late in the 3rd, on a franchise-record 10 game losing streak, I was kind of hoping someone ... anyone ... would go out there and try to make some kind of statement. Show some life for cryin' out loud. I was half expecting to see guys handing over tomorrow's lunch money on their way off the ice. Well .... sort of, yes .... but not stick work. Preferably a shift consisting of almost nothing but clean, brutally tough body checks, but I wouldn't scoff if a few dropped the gloves either. Losing is bad enough, but this "oh well, we lost again" feeling out there - which it now appears every commentator now associates with the Sabres - is worse. Unprofessional - but my God, a visible pulse is not the worst thing to see coming out of that dressing room. Personally, I think it's much more the players than it is Lindy, but it all stinks the same right now. Freakin shoot Leino; holy crap why don't you just freakin hand them the victory and head to the locker room. You might see is leino shoot the puck tonight; at his own net. Weber He has to tie up his man better; I'm glad it didn't count. They are allowing the BH forwards to stand around the front of the net uncontested. Maybe his linemates who stood there when Goose was laying in pain on the ice....there is something seriously wrong with the chemistry of this team. Hard to believe we're at this point with the way the summer went and the season started. But, the bottom line is that there aren't any legitimate excuses for this team to be playing like this. Injuries happen. It is, after all, a sport with sticks, pucks, ice and boards and large men (or in Gerbe's case, large boys) skating fast and occasionally crashing into each other. Everyone has injuries -- granted, Buffalo has had a bunch, but it still isn't any excuse. Pittsburgh, Philly and others have had significant injuries and they seem to be keeping it together. To channel my inner Lindy -- our best players haven't been our best players. That means that the GM needs to make some changes. Too bad we have left that position vacant ... wait, what's that you say? We have one? Oh. Didn't realize. From a hockey playing standpoint -- it's simple. Buffalo too often in this stretch hasn't done those simple things. The Buffalo teams I've always loved were the ones that embody the city -- blue collar, digging pucks out of the corner, having our goalie keeping us in it and winning on heart, determination and will. This team has none of those things. Starting with Timmy C and others -- we fell in love with guys that didn't possess the kind of grit you need...and we let the guys go that had it with a high level of skill to boot (Briere in particular). Getting pucks deep, making the safer pass, taking advantage when you can, solid goalie play and rolling three-four lines is what Buffalo needs. I'm all for spending to the cap, don't get me wrong...but you've got to spend wisely. This year isn't over by any means -- but the last two games seem to put Buffalo on near-life support. This is an automated response I'll make avatars for people for a fee. If that's what it takes to get good teachers in that ####hole then I'm all for it. To put a lid on the OT; that is what the teachers have NOW. It's not the teachers, but the regulations they work under, and the parents they have to "work" with. Actually, it's a lot more involved than that, but...I guess I would fail at putting a lid on the OT if I continue to type.
Marvelo Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 Hey ... look at the bright side. We've got Ville Leino for 6 years! great drop pass btw. :worthy:
darksabre Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 I guess the mods didn't like my thought provoking new thread.

LabattBlue Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 When guys named Shaw, Hayes and Kruger(it should have counted) score against you, you know it is time for change. I just cannot believe how this season is playing out. UNBELIEVABLE! :(
darksabre Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 I liked it. I was just about to post in that thread when I realized I couldn't. Damn Communists. I'm furious. I might start another thread about how furious I am. :D

Rahhhhhhhh!

Hawerchuk Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 I didn't say Emrick was a bad announcer, just that they spend a lot of time talking about things other than what's happening in the game. Which I think is a consequence of it being a national TV broadcast. Like if you were listening to Jeanerret and Neale on the local broadcast, even with the game out of hand they don't just start chatting about Pittsburgh vs. Washington and stuff. They would keep calling the game because that's what they're there to do. I've been saying this for years and totally agree. Call the game, not what Towes had for lunch and that Kane likes to ride dirtbikes in the offseason - during the GDamn play! Freakin terrible. I will say that Doc Emrick is a lousy announcer. Can't stand him.
neverenough Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 I hope Pegula is enjoying this as much as i....
deluca67 Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 That was someone else that asked that, not Harrington,.. and yes it was a meaningful question. I went to bed and didn't listen to the post game show. What exactly happened? What was the question?
spndnchz Posted January 19, 2012 Author Report Posted January 19, 2012 I went to bed and didn't listen to the post game show. What exactly happened? What was the question? Harrington was asking Lindy why Leino didn't sit after his bad back pass. Audio here: http://blogs.buffalonews.com/sabres/2012/01/more-thoughts-on-lindy.html I've seen Ruff far more annoyed at other press conferences -- and more annoyed at me than he was tonight. I asked a couple pointed questions, he decided he didn't want to answer and he left. No big deal really. Been there, done that with Ruff and all kinds of managers in baseball. Except for the "Mike, you coach" crack he threw over his shoulder as he headed into his office. I thought that was actually a pretty good line!
bunomatic Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 I went to bed and didn't listen to the post game show. What exactly happened? What was the question? Nothing men making this kind of money shouldn't be able to handle. Lindy was asked why Leino never got benched for his gaff and Lindy replied because we're short people and he asked again...and again...and
Koomkie Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 My thoughts What was that penalty on Myers for that put them two men down? Shocking call. Leino is awful. Only 5 more yrs left. Ruff played Leino even though his gaff cost us the game. Why? Weber is not good. Sorry Mike, is that his first name Vanek was an absolute no show tonight. Mh prediction. Ruff gets canned, Vanek lights it up. He's done with Lindy. Roy, see ya. Gaustad looked fine skating off after the board but doesn't come back?? Interesting. Sure am glad I decided to take my so. To Vancouver to watch them in March. Not! i live in portland ,or and i have been planning on going to that game all year. about a month ago i decided it was a huge waste of money to go watch this team play. i think that is the right choice.
Who Else? Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 Their jobs as announcers is to follow the play. Regardless of how out of reach it may be for one of the playing teams, the people tuning in are probably more interested in the play by play than something that is completely unrelated to tonight's game. You are obviously the acception to this logic I can't stand this crew and I agree the home team color commentary should not do a national broafcast. It happened a couple times before with Darryl Raugh. I want to complain about these clowns, but I thought they did a great job tonight. They really didn't even need to say anything about Buffalo. It's nice to get an outsiders perspective on the gameplay. As for the last two three minutes of the game, thank God they switched off from talking of the game.
