I realize that I started listening to a game last night that already was 3-0 against, but I've listened to Sylvester in the past. And I also realize that he's more telegenic than Hamsammich. But COME ON, Sylvester is just awful to listen to. He really makes me yearn for the years of Gurtler and the Sabres on Channel 29, and that's tough. We can do better; I think Hammy is pretty good at it. Other suggestions welcome.

I really fell in love with th Sabres because of Jeanerette. He makes a mundane play in front or the net sound like the most exciting event on the planet.

He draws you into the game and makes it hard just to listen to while doing other things. Unfortunately Sylvester does the opposite.

I'd like to see someone with Rick's seemingly genuine enthusiasm although it has seemed to wain with the team this year.

Beninati can bring some of that. I vote for him

Why not put Sylvester and Neale together. Maybe then the play on the ice will seem less painful.

I wonder why they haven't made their search for a permanent replacement public yet. Turn it into a marketing thing - contest, public judging, the works. It would bring a lot of attention, mostly positive, which they sorely need right now.

Dan Dunleavy, who does Leafs Radio (just started this season) did a game or two last year or the year before for the Sabres. I thought he was outstanding. Best I've heard other than RJ. Would love to get him for the TV/Radio combo in Buffalo.

I wouldn't mind him on the radio, but it is tough to follow him on tv. He talks fast enough, but doesn't follow the play closely enough. Seems to be a little too far behind the play, and his excitement sounds forced. He might be great on VS. I'd love to see Robitaille doing color again. He was interesting/informative and funny without trying too hard though I can understand why he didn't appeal to a lot of folks. I would love to see Weber come back

Sylvester is not a good play-by-play guy. He gets too wrapped up in the game and comes out with stupid statements like "Take THAT ____ (some player who fouled one of our guys)" after we had scored. That's amateurish. Gurtler is fine for Bandits games but not hockey.

We should have a talent hunt. To me Dan Kelly of the Blues was the best and now his son John Kelly does their games. He sounds just like his father. The guy who does the Sharks games also has an excellent voice.

But please...not RJ's son, Percy (my name for him). His voice makes me visualize a guy sitting there in his smoking jacket using a cigarette holder and wearing a monocle. That is the image I get when listening to him.

We need to hold an audition.

You have to think RJ doesn't want any part of this mess next year. I think you have to go outside the Sabres hallowed "organization" to get RJ's successor. The best announcers I've heard are from Canada, namely the Leafs, Flames, Winnipeg and Canucks. Their TV and radio people are all outstanding. Would be nice if the new person had Buffalo ties.

Agree with the comment further above about Joe Bowen....I love the Hockey Night in Canada guys. Somebody with Buffalo ties could be Pete Weber with the Predators.

Sylvester sucks! He has made a nice transition from Quinny to Black without any negative impact. During the Detroit game, I heard him use a phrase along the lines of a player "shifting shoulders" which made me do a WTF wave in my car. "Shifting shoulders"?

I guarantee that his brown nosing will go a long way towards getting the job when RJ steps aside.
