spndnchz Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 wheres the poll? Shouldn't you buy him a drink first?
Ross Rhea Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 Not a coach. Just stressing my opinion. Can't tell if you are being sarcastic with the "simplify his game" comment. I was agreeing with another poster, that when miller's problems started with overplaying the shooter, that it should have been a problem that could be "coached" out. When Miller was playing way outside of the crease his game went downhill. When Enroth went in and played the hug the post style and rarely playing outside the crease, he did pretty well. With Ruff's collapsing defensive system you would often see the defensemen behind Miller trying to cover his backside, where Enroth could simply push across. Completely agree. I agree with that assessment.
That Aud Smell Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 saw a sabres writer (vogl?) point out on twitter today that miller's been concussed twice in one calendar year (remember last march/april?). honestly, i think he's not right. which isn't to say that i still want him with the team long-term; basically, i'm with bullwinkle. My solution is simple...hold on to him and hope he begins to reestablish himself and then trade his butt. He's damaged goods and it appears to me more of a divisive figure in the locker room than a cohesive one. Simply put, the guys seem to like to play in front of Enroth more than Miller.
K-9 Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 It seems to me that Miller hasn't been right since the Lucic hit - and also since his marriage. One or both of those events may be the problem. If it's the Lucic hit, this means that he's still being affected by the concussion. If it's the marriage, this means that things aren't working out so swimmingly with him in Buffalo and his wife in Hollywood. If it's both, he's in a real mess. My solution is simple...hold on to him and hope he begins to reestablish himself and then trade his butt. He's damaged goods and it appears to me more of a divisive figure in the locker room than a cohesive one. Simply put, the guys seem to like to play in front of Enroth more than Miller. I agree. I've suspected this since he's come back from his most recent concussion. He just seems "off." More important than the physical toll of the Lucic hit are the undeniable psychological aspects. Miller witnessed his team quitting on him in the most significant way possible. It was an insult to him, the game of hockey, and fans of the team. I don't think that's an easy thing to get over even without the added physical injury of the concussion. Perhaps I'm oversimplifying but I honestly think this team, or at least a large portion of it, is embarrassed to take the ice and play since Lucic revealed their utter lack of hockey character. It's as if they just can't wait for the game to be over most of the time. Especially when things don't go their way early. They are the epitome of a team that's pressing and that's because few of them are able to respond to high-pressure situations. I truly hope Lindy resigns rather than continue to be represented by a group of players that are incapable of playing the game like he did. GO SABRES!!!
Tyrannustyrannus Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 I'm not asking Pommer's to call out teammates in the media, It's time for Pommers to address (aggressively) it in the locker room behind closed doors. All I'm saying I've noticed the frustration in his tone as of late. If its behind closed doors, how do you know he hasn't? There is waaay to much speculation going on these days
Figster Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 Shouldn't you buy him a drink first? I know the numbers were looking bad, but seriously
nbash Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 I've seen this numerous times yet no one has offered any sort of elaboration. What do you mean? Is this a good or bad thing? Are you saying Enroth lacks talent in comparison to Miller when it comes to overall skill? I'm just confused because like I said people love saying this but never care to explain. To date, Enroth hasn't flashed the brilliant upside of Miller at his best. He also hasn't looked as lost as Miller at his worst. Miller's upside feels like it might have a better chance of returning in a new location and GM's will be tempted by it -- that's why Miller offers the best trade bait on the team and will garner a good return.
spndnchz Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 I know the numbers were looking bad, but seriously I have no idea.
itbeatswalking Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 Enroth>Miller. It's clear, enroth is young and only going to get better. For miller, it just goes completely the opposite direction for that statement.
neverenough Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 Enroth>Miller. It's clear, enroth is young and only going to get better. For miller, it just goes completely the opposite direction for that statement. Yeah i wouldnt think twice about moving miller at this point.
deluca67 Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 And when this season has THIS team managed to play well? You make it sound like all of those goals were his fault. He was hung out to dry with constant give aways and guys being left wide open near the net. Miller has come out many times and said that he hasn't played good enough, he came out and said it last night. He said he needs to play better. You want him to have a weird Bryzgalov type meltdown and talk about how he can't stop a beach ball and feels lost in the woods right now? Hows that working out for Bryz right now? Miller was hung out to dry once out of the five goals. That was Lidstrom's goal. The first goal beat Miller high glove from the left high slot. The second goal was Miller getting beat clean, again for the slot, this time the right. The fourth goal was the Bertuzzi spin-o-rama with Miller for some reason on his knees. The fifth goal was a 2-2 played poorly by Boyes. 14 shots over 24:32 of game time is not a barrage. It only seems that way when 5 go into the net. I'm not saying the team played well last night, they were out classed. The problem I have is that the $6 mil goalie did nothing to help the situation.
Figster Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 I have no idea. Odd, perhaps OP thought it was so clear cut why bother, Thanks spndnchz
Koomkie Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 I say bench him... Granted, I am looking at it by Boston's point of view, but Thomas was awful in 09-10, only to come back the next year and win a cup. Trade him after they win a cup. i remember thinking this last year. i was not impressed with miller at all last year (although he did rebound in the playoffs) but i was praying that it was just an off year and that he would rebound and come out strong this year. he is not obviously 100% to blame for the horrible team this year, but he has definitely been even more of a disappointment. there is a chance he can rebound this year or next....but only the people on the "inside" know how he is combating this horrible stretch. i would be fine with trading him if it brought us a star back. maybe enroth is not the starter yet, but i would be okay with a good vet splitting the role. seems as though this is not a goaltenders year this year. a lot of good goalies have been getting lit up. go sabres.
hockeyhound Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 I've made the argument for moving Corsi in the past, and gotten the same response - either people think he is doing a good job or don't see the benefit for replacing him. Pommer's comments sounded liked a scared little kid being sent to the principal's office. I thought I was home alone on the subject. How does society judge whether or not one is doing a good job; I would argue performance. A coaches performance is measured aggregately; moreover, individual player performance good or bad may indicate whether or not the coach is still effective in his/her role. I would argue that the individual performance of our star goalie Ryan Miller is an indicator of Jim Corsi inability to communicate adequately. After watching the recent Ryan Miller interview, it seems to confirm my suspicion that the appropriate answers are not being provided. The onus is upon Jim Corsi to provide all the tools necessary so that Ryan Miller can evolve, change, and be prepared to play in the NHL. If Ryan is making consistent technical mistakes e.g. consistently going down into the butterfly position to early, then may i suggest Corsi is irrelavent and it is time to find someone that can help Ryan. Unless Ryan Millers' head is complete mush, then I suspect he is still capable of receiving instruction. Miller is proven as an elite goalie; I would not want to see him go, I still think he has a lot to offer. Please excuse my spelling and grammatical errors. Does this new software have spell check?
HopefulFuture Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 According to this twitter report, Miller has asked for a trade. https://twitter.com/#!/nhlfanchat/statuses/159421210659258368
hockeyhound Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 According to this twitter report, Miller has asked for a trade. https://twitter.com/...421210659258368 I can only hope this is wrong.
HopefulFuture Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 I can only hope this is wrong. I don't know anything about the situation, but this twitter account was fairly active during the deadline.
sabre4life Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 Milbury put it simply just now... shut up and play... (to miller). And they're confused on the nice comment. To me I think miller meant stop being nice to those in the locker room... pommers said the same thing. Hmmm...
87168 Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 Miller is proven as an elite goalie; I would not want to see him go  Hey, I'm a fan of Miller but how has he proven to be an "elite"

TrueBlueGED Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 Milbury put it simply just now... shut up and play... (to miller). And they're confused on the nice comment. To me I think miller meant stop being nice to those in the locker room... pommers said the same thing. Hmmm... Milbury is a complete imbecile who shouldn't be on television. Agreed on the rest, they just don't hold each other accountable in the locker room and we've been hearing that for years. According to this twitter report, Miller has asked for a trade. https://twitter.com/...421210659258368 It certainly wouldn't surprise me. If I were him I would have asked for a trade after the Lucic incident. And the whole wife thing makes sense...marriage is stressful, even when it's good, and being 3000 miles away from the person you love would only make it worse. And I can't fault him for it, it's just being human, these guys aren't cyborgs. That being said, unless I hear it from a mainstream source like LeBrun or Dreger, to me it's just another "this makes TOTAL sense so I'm going to toss it out on the internet and see what happens!"
deluca67 Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 If he stopped two of the five would you be happy and defending him? It goes well beyond the five goals scored last night. This team is built in a way where Miller has to be a difference maker. The Sabres are designed to go into each game with an advantage in goal or at least even. Right now, when Miller starts, you just hope he can at least keep the game close.
JJFIVEOH Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 If he stopped two of the five would you be happy and defending him? If he stopped three of the five, I would have stood behind him and said he didn't deserve the loss because his offense is a complete failure. I think he could have stopped three, maybe four of those goals. Should have and could have are two different things. He thinks he's gods gift to hockey and so does the Sabres front office. If he's the Golden Boy, he SHOULD have stopped four out of five of those goals. A $6.25 million goaltender is supposed to stop four out of five of those goals. If he's not going to play up to the level he thinks he's on, then his salary is just a burden on the cap. Should his team hang him out to dry like they do? No. Should a high $$ goaltender have to deal with situations like that? Absolutely! That's why he makes he big $$. It goes well beyond the five goals scored last night. This team is built in a way where Miller has to be a difference maker. The Sabres are designed to go into each game with an advantage in goal or at least even. Right now, when Miller starts, you just hope he can at least keep the game close. Exactly!

Miller has never been popular in the room, neither has Roy. There are major personality issues going on.... these guys have had a falling out. Goose and miller .. Why Miller's wife wont move here makes no sense..... is she employed full time? i mean what gives.
darksabre Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 Some random schlub named Patt Leggs is reporting on twitter that Miller has requested a trade and will only go to a west conference team. Take it with some big grains of salt, but I thought i'd pass it on. Edit: looks like this is in the Caps Slots thread as well but it probably belongs here.
