Who Else? Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 So would you say that Miller is playing too aggressive right now? IO don't think he knows what the hell he's doing, but overplaying (mostly last year) is where it all started to go downhill.
LabattBlue Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 So would you say that Miller is playing too aggressive right now? I've noticed it at least the last couple of years, and yes, I would consider that to be too aggressive.
sabre4life Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 it was what Sabre4life said, that you quoted and replied to I'm not asking Pommer's to call out teammates in the media, It's time for Pommers to address (aggressively) it in the locker room behind closed doors. All I'm saying I've noticed the frustration in his tone as of late.
TrueBlueGED Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 And down goes the trade value............ I'm not so sure that decreases his trade value. I think a lot of people grossly underestimate the ego that coaches and GMs have--most of them see talent and believe a guy needs a change, or they're so special they can bring out the best in them. I think a far more damning statement from a scout would read "he just doesn't have the ability anymore--his reflexes are just too slow and the quickness is gone." Especially if other teams look at the Lucic incident, it can be easy to conclude that Miller doesn't have the fire because his teammates let him down so hard. Change of scenery fixes that. Hell, Scott Gomez may have had the worst contract/performance ratio in recent history, and he still got moved for a package which included Ryan McDonagh, who played on the Rangers' (2nd fewest goals allowed in the East) top pairing while Staal was out this year.
nbash Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 Miller's psyche is too fragile, he'll do great in Anaheim where Hockey is irrelevant to the masses and he can live and play under minimal scrutiny. Enroth isn't Miller, but he's better right now and the team seems to rally around him, or at least not abandn him like they do with Miller. Pegula isn't firing Lindy, so the disconnect between Miller and Riff this year isn't going to get better. Time to move on, it would be best for both sides.

apuszczalowski Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 How do you know he hasn't been doing that already? We as fans can't assume we know what goes on in the locker room. yes we can Assuming we know everything is what 95% of this board is made of!

I've seen this numerous times yet no one has offered any sort of elaboration. What do you mean? Is this a good or bad thing? Are you saying Enroth lacks talent in comparison to Miller when it comes to overall skill? I'm just confused because like I said people love saying this but never care to explain.
deluca67 Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 Score a couple of goalies, shut out Howard and he'd have made all the difference last night. You want Hasek/Roy for $6mill a year? Dream on, these days you pay Ehrhoff money for a game changing goalie. Hasek COULD carry games, Miller is a great goalie but his not top 3 all time. I'm not arguing with you that his seriously underperforming this season (Enroth might have better numbers but the goals he has given up have been really badly timed). You want him to say 'I should have won this game' when the team scores 0 goals? Thats possible the most stupid comment I've ever read. Ever. Of all time. I want him to call the team out and admit failure on his part. Shock horror! Thats what he does... Wespect! +1 You're right, Miller is not Top 3 all-time, he isn't even the best goalie on the Sabres. The Sabres didn't lose 1-0 last night. Miller was lit up for 5 goals on 14 shots. He was chased out of the nets for the fourth time this season. Even when this team has managed to play well Miller hasn't been a lot of help. I want Miller to stand up and say he sucked last night, because he did. Like it or not Miller is positioned as the face of the franchise and the team is built around his goaltending. His performance last night was horrible. That doesn't change because the Sabres were shutout. The score doesn't give Miller the free pass .
87168 Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 yes we can Assuming we know everything is what 95% of this board is made of! Hahaha apparenty.
sabre4life Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 How do you know he hasn't been doing that already? We as fans can't assume we know what goes on in the locker room. I'm not assuming anything, it was his "tone" which has changed considerably...
87168 Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 I'm not assuming anything, it was his "tone" which has changed considerably... You stated "It's time for Pommers to address (aggressively) it in the locker room behind closed doors" ^^^ I'm not tryin to bicker but that clearly shows that you think he is not doing his job as a captain inside of the locker room.

You make it sound like all of those goals were his fault. He was hung out to dry with constant give aways and guys being left wide open near the net. Miller has come out many times and said that he hasn't played good enough, he came out and said it last night. He said he needs to play better. You want him to have a weird Bryzgalov type meltdown and talk about how he can't stop a beach ball and feels lost in the woods right now? Hows that working out for Bryz right now?

If memory serves, their first closed door meeting with players was after the Islanders game... Why has it taken this long? All I'm saying is it's time for pommers to show it via talk and not by his play. I'm actually commending him not putting him down, I can hear it in his voice that he's frustrated which I haven't heard yet all year.
darksabre Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 IO don't think he knows what the hell he's doing, but overplaying (mostly last year) is where it all started to go downhill. So would you say that he needs to simplify his game and focus on being in better position for making each save?

2ForTripping Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 agree with you on that , he made a snarky comment and made a stupid eye roll face as if he was offended. he claims he had millers back etc... and in the post hit rematch lucic fed gaustad his lunch after gaustad pontificated endlessly it would be handled.

With his size and (supposed) strength, he could be standing up for teammates and picking fights all the time. There are only a handful of guys in the league like Lucic who should give him a hard time. But he does nothing! He's a paper tiger. If he's not going to score goals (which he isn't), he should at least drop the gloves and make a difference out there that way. The bottom line is that I don't think he's that strong or that tough. I think we pretend he is because he's tall.
2ForTripping Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 Maybe but that would have been solely for the miller incident, this meeting was about the meltdown that's been going on since. the meltdown started after lucic made the hit. the sabs are abysmal since that happened.
JJFIVEOH Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 This team is weak, feeble, and the leadership is young and/or immature. I've been saying this since the offseason, this team needs a handful of old guys. After losing Grier, Niedermayer and Lalime they have no veteran leadership left. Would that turn this team into a Cup contender? Probably not. But this is the same team that had the best record in the conference the second half of last year..... if not a better team. These guys are weak and need somebody to hold their hands, Ruff can only do so much. Based on what they did last year, this team should be competiive. They had the heart and talent to do it last year, there is no reason they shouldn't be able to do it now. They do have a lack of talent, but not this much. Pominville is not a leader, neither is Gaustad, neither is Stafford or Miller or Roy. I don't think bringing in a couple of veteran old guys is going to turn this team around, but had they been here from the start of the year I don't think they'd be in this position right now.
Bullwinkle Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 It seems to me that Miller hasn't been right since the Lucic hit - and also since his marriage. One or both of those events may be the problem. If it's the Lucic hit, this means that he's still being affected by the concussion. If it's the marriage, this means that things aren't working out so swimmingly with him in Buffalo and his wife in Hollywood. If it's both, he's in a real mess. My solution is simple...hold on to him and hope he begins to reestablish himself and then trade his butt. He's damaged goods and it appears to me more of a divisive figure in the locker room than a cohesive one. Simply put, the guys seem to like to play in front of Enroth more than Miller.
Who Else? Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 So would you say that he needs to simplify his game and focus on being in better position for making each save? Not a coach. Just stressing my opinion. Can't tell if you are being sarcastic with the "simplify his game" comment. I was agreeing with another poster, that when miller's problems started with overplaying the shooter, that it should have been a problem that could be "coached" out. When Miller was playing way outside of the crease his game went downhill. When Enroth went in and played the hug the post style and rarely playing outside the crease, he did pretty well. With Ruff's collapsing defensive system you would often see the defensemen behind Miller trying to cover his backside, where Enroth could simply push across. Gaustad is a joke. Does anyone disagree? Completely agree.
