deluca67 Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 You are kidding, out of all the highlights of that game you think Miller made the most mistakes? Not the 0 on our scoreboard, or the AWEFUL defense? Miller should be better, but so should our ENTIRE TEAM. Blaming Miller is just doing what Buffalo has done for 20 odd years, relied on the goalie for everything. That is how the GM has built the team. From the goalie out. He gets paid big dollars to be an elite goalie no matter who is playing in front of him. There are plenty of threads in regards to removing other players, fans are not putting all of this on Miller. When things turn sour fans look to the stars of the team. Miller is the face of this franchise and makes a lot of money. He is target of frustration, IMO, rightfully so.
hockeyhound Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 Last week I started the topic "Fire The Goalie Coach"; consequently, I provoked the ire of some of the forum faithful. Never was it my intention to spark a full on knock down drag out; however, it is now clear to me that some take things a little more serious than others. I guess after watching Miller get beat over the glove, over the shoulder, over and over, it was a bit more than I could handle. I know that the knee jerk reaction is trade Miller; however, most of us would agree that would not be the prudent thing to do at this point, and that is why I suggested getting a new goalie coach. Sure Jim Corsi is probably doing his job to the best of his ability but let's face it, something is being lost in the translation. I have been watching Miller go down into to the butterfly early some time now; he is completely predicatable. Is Jim Corsi watching the same video as the rest of us? If he is, then the adjustments to Ryans game should have already been made. At times during the online practice Miller stays in the butterfly position, and it made me want to scream get off your knee's and stand up for once. During tonights game I thought Enroth did a great job; at one point Enroth stood upright, and made a great save on a puck that was heading for the upper portion of the net. So my question is, if you are getting beat over the glove, over the shoulder, over and over, who is responsable if the trend continues? Do you put all the blame on Ryan Miller? Why do they have a goalie coach at all if the results are the same night in and night out? Did you see the Tyler Myers interview between periods? Well Tyler, which one of you is under achieving? I don't know Mister interviewer, it's rarely one individual. His answer was very diplomatic; however, I could only imagine him wanting to break down and say, well, if our goalie could just stop the puck every once in awhile we might have a chance. So after tonights horriable performance, I reaffirm my position that it maybe time to fire the goalie coach, and bring in someone with a fresh new perspective, someone who can get results. We need Miller back on his game.

One bad game does not make a bad goalie. His also not the face of this franchise, just one of the bigger names. Vanek, Myers, Ruff and Miller are the biggest names associated with the team and none (with the possible exception of Vanek) have been as good as they should be. Should he be better? Yes. Does that mean we have to act like h8rs and fanbois and blame a different single player after every loss? No, thats petty. We all know this team would be better if Ruff and Regier were gone. Miller is right, no player trade will change this (I promise you that), it has to either come from them or a radical management change.
Buffalo Fan Posted January 17, 2012 Author Report Posted January 17, 2012 Well at least we've stopped blaming Connolly for everything... spendchz would disagree

No it doesn't, but it has been way way more than just one bad game, and one good year does not make an elite goalie either.

Miller is the Vezina winning Olympic goalie, he is absolutely the face of this franchise. No it doesn't, but it has been way way more than just one bad game, and one good year does not make an elite goalie either. Correct! MIller is 11-15 this season with a save% of .898 and a gaa of 3.12. Enroth, with the same team infront of him, is 8-11 with a save% of .924 and a gaa 2.42.
North Buffalo Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 I said this to people 2 years ago... when he was Captain America.. and people laughed. There's no proof of what I said above except for the people I spoke it to. They say Miller is a butterfly goaltender and that the upper part of the net is open on that style.. funny .. Roy was a butterfly goaltender and I don't recall the upper part of the net being so exposed... did they raise the crossbar on Miller? Not a fan, never have been. Roy's lower body is the only thing ever exposed ba bump bump... the dangle
Huckleberry Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 I'd never trade Miller, he is a franchise goalie and im sure he'll bounce back, if its not this year then it will be the next one. The team sucks this year, and alot of guys not living up to their potential, making to many trades can never get us a good return on value. If we do what some suggest on this forum and do a "tabula rasa" of the entire roster, then we won't compete for the stanley cup for another 5 years.
Huckleberry Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 Problem with trading him right now is, you'd never get enough return for his worth. cause basically he is sucking right now, you'd probably would need to add another underperforming veteran. It would kill me to see them perform somewhere else, and have new guys come in and ride out the slump were having along with the entire team.
SportsFan88 Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 Well at least we've stopped blaming Connolly for everything... Never got that motive. Guy was made of glass but when he was healthy he was good. It would kill me to see them perform somewhere else, and have new guys come in and ride out the slump were having along with the entire team. Not so sure he is worth a hell of a lot right now anyway and this might be the most he's worth going forward...

A franchise goalie should be able to perform at an elite level for longer than 1 season in his career.
Sabres Fan in NS Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 I do like Miller, but I believe in the off-season he should be dealt to the Red Wings. It seems to me that is his wish ... local boy goes home (kind of) to win a cup. I would be happy for him if this came to pass. Not to mention to unite the Miller brothers. Also, in no way am I blaming Miller for all the problems, but he really has seemed to have come undone.
Who Else? Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 Trade him for anything. This season is most likely over, especially if they are serious about the cup and not just the playoffs. Get Miller to shut his mouth so he looks less like a head case. With the cap room he will leave behind, Pegula can go out and get an above average goalie and a 3rd or fourth line center. Miller still has the league experts on the Broadcasts fooled. There has to be some team like Tampa or another team that has an iffy goal situation for next year willing to try to build around this guy. I really do not believe Miller has a future in Buffalo with this core and coach. Did you seee him glaring over at the bench last night after the last two goals. He didn't look at the scoreboard, didn't put his head down, didn't look as if he were refocusing: he just glared. I'm not saying he sux or is done, just that he is done with this team. What else can you take out of his post game comments?
sabre4life Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 There is no easy answer here, it's apparent from the comments from Miller, and Pommers, that ###### in the locker room is a little too cozy, remember the last time they got bitch slapped, Regher came out and spoke up, Now Pommers and Miller are finally fed up, why it took this long I'm not sure. It's time for Pommers to be a Capt. and start showing it in the locker room, his Lady Bing attitude needs to go away. I believe the cancers are Roy, and Stafford, if anyone should go it's these two guys, I know Roy has been a ppg in the past but his locker room and off ice attitude needs to go. my .02

Now, is Howard a product of the system like Osgood? Trade him for anything. This season is most likely over, especially if they are serious about the cup and not just the playoffs. You are right that Pegula has the loot, the question is will those caliber players want to come? As long as Ruff/Regier are here I won't hold my breath.
That Aud Smell Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 the league hasn't suddenly figured him out -- he's still capable of being a very good goalie. i am in the camp of thinking that says he's still not right in the head (literally) after the lucic thing. i would be in favor of shelving the guy and letting him have a full and complete recovery.

Those are our franchise guys. I'm not saying his elite goalie but when the team infront of him more often than not don't score and when they do the whole team collapses what do you expect him to do?! Have you seen the goals from the Detroit game, 1, maybe 2 he could have had but most of the plays came off of turnovers and/or poor defensive zone coverage. The goaltender is the last line of defense, at the moment his the ONLY line of defense. We have Myers but other than that there really aren't any good dmen on this team. Ehrhoff worked for a while (but is out), I'm still not sold on Regehr and the others are average on a good day.

You don't need lights out offense to win and you can win not scoring much. However when you have weak defense like ours and a goalie who isn't on his game it's all but over. When we last won the Northeast Division a couple ofd seasons ago that team wasn't all that good, Miller was lights out though and I guess the offense just played better but the defense wasn't that good either.

Enroth has the same guys in front of him and has played much better than Miller, IMO. I want Miller to be the franchise goalie that he and many others believes he is. I want him to be a leader and stand up after games like last night and put it all on his own shoulders no matter how poorly the team plays in front of him. I want him to say it and more importantly, I want him to believe it.
87168 Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 Trade him - he's going to demand one. Miller has already stated in past interviews that he wants to remain in Buffalo.
OverPowerYou Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 Miller, Roy and Stafford for a Centerman. Someone? Please? Take this trade! By the way that would save us millions! Highly unlikely to happen though
Who Else? Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 Miller has already stated in past interviews that he wants to remain in Buffalo. What else can he say without being considered a malcontent? Did you see him glaring at the bench last night or here his comments?
BuffaTB Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 At some point, miller decided he should come out of the net more and never, ever, ever raise his glove above his shoulder. It might be the lucic incident, it may have been that he got married and really doesn't give a $h*t anymore, but if the dude stayed in his net and raised his glove once and a while, he would still be a relatively serviceable goalie. That being said, i dont see that fire and dedication in his eyes anymore, so if he desired a trade, I'd move him ASAP.
SportsFan88 Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 Miller has already stated in past interviews that he wants to remain in Buffalo. So? Briere said he would take a "hometown discount" and bolted hours after free agency started. I've learned not to take things players say verbatim or to heart. They are great at telling people what they want to hear.
