Per WGR. ANA does NOT want roy or stafford. They want Myers. If we give them Myers, Getzlaf will be in a sabres jersey tmr night. DO THE DEAL DARCY!

...NO

Well?

I would assume you are asking me both "well see I was right!" and "well why not"

1) Congratulations there is uncomfirmed reports that the Ducks want what will undoubtedly in my mind become 1 of the top 5 defensmen in the NHL within 3 years... IF i was GM this would not seem a fair deal which leads me to

2) Tyler Myers is 5 years younger. He has won the Calder already and the only reason we are entertaining this idea is because we have become so desperate for a top center we would sacrifice our franchise defensmen for him. Myers makes this team better. He makes those around him better. He is special.

3) When CHZ tells me that Anaheim officially said NO to a deal with Roy and Yes only if the deal include Myers I will be more inclined to believe it.

No? Myers has been turning the puck over crazily. He is over rated.

Your powers of observation scare me. Hey just for fun tell me what is Getzlaf's +/- this year?

Leaving aside the question of whether LGR will deny again his claim that Anaheim would take Roy for Getzlaf, the question of whether to trade Myers for Getzlaf is a pretty interesting one.

I honestly don't know what I would do. Getzlaf is exactly what the Sabres are dying for, but I think Myers is the best player on the team and has almost unlimited potential. I also think he's looked great since returning (although I didn't see the Toronto game).

I will say that I would trade Vanek for Getzlaf in a heartbeat.

No, he's young, with far more potential than any of our other young D. Getzlaf would be a fantastic addition, but he's not saving this team on his own and we don't have another D-man that can easily fill Myers' spot. He's on the very short list of those I wouldn't consider moving right now.

What would you rather have...a proven #1 Cup winning center who would fill that role for the next 8-10 years, or a defenseman who has show some skill, has been up and down through his first three years, and may or may not become an NHL all-star and true #1 defenseman.

IMO...Myers is not any better defensively than he was as a rookie, and has regressed offensively.

OK stop just stop. You can not keep changing what I said around to fit whatever you want it to. First it was I didn't say we should package Roy in a deal then it was I didn't say Anaheim said they wanted Roy now its I am denying my claim that Anaheim said they would take Roy which I never said in the first place.

I said for the last godamn time, Derek Roy, Brayden McNabb and a pick for Getzlaf. There is a post you can go look it up. Everything else is your imagination running wild so stop. I investigated and created a trade that I believed was appealing to all parties in response to someone asking about Getzlaf. I never have, never will, nor will I consider acting like some hockey messiah who knows exactly what Anaheim is thinking.

I make the trade, too, in a heartbeat. That being said, the Hamilton column was a good read and made the bigger point that as much as we would love to see some of our underachievers hit the bricks, no GM in his right mind wants them. You trade Getzlaf for Roy and Stafford, lets say we even throw in Boyes or Leopold, you are out of your mind. You only make that trade if you get a great player back.

Myers is 21 with potential to be the best defenseman in the league. Technically, his prime doesn't start for 5-7 years yet. We might be happy tomorrow if this happens, but not in four years when Getzlaf isn't as good, we still haven't won a cup, and myers wins a norris in Anaheim. This is obviously worst case scenario, but it's possibility is enough for me to say hell no Darcy, don't do it.

I'll toss my no vote into the hat. If for no other reason than I don't want to suffer all the "Look how Lindy has ruined Getzlaf's game" threads.

Assuming he doesn't have marfans syndrome, in a few years he will have filled out his frame, learned the game, and become our version of Pronger but without the dirty play, imho.

Besides, I always heard that a franchise defensemen is more valuable than a franchise centerman, all things being equal. Has there been a shift in that paradigm?

GO SABRES!!!

Getzlaf also is on a line with,... Who are they again? Oh yeah Bobby Ryan and Corey Perry. If he comes here it could easily end up with his numbers greatly shrinking due to lack of quality players around him.

Yes. Getzlaf is in the top 5 best centers in the league. Is Myers a top 5 D man? No. Potentially? Maybe. But I'd make this deal in a minute.

Malkin, Staal, Stamkos, Sedin, Kesler, Giroux, Datsyuk, Sharp, Toews, Thornton. I just named 10 players better than Getzlaf who play center. I think at least 5 have won cups.

KEEP MYERS. our older players are not as good as our younger guys. Getzlaf is a GREAT player however we need to be building off of the guys who are just starting their careers rather than the guys who are over the career hill and heading down

Staal, Kesler, Sharp, Thornton -- All big NO's to being better than Getzlaf.

I do the trade in a heartbeat. I said it before -- it will take Myers to get anyones attention for a #1 center.

Getzlaf is over the hill at the age of 26?

If Getzlaf commits to a new long term contract as part of the deal, I make the trade and don't think twice about it.

If by "commits" your mean verbally to DR then that is not good enough, but if it is a NBA style "sign (under the direction of ... good Lord I can't believe I am going to say this ... DR - obviously with Mr. Pegula's approval) and trade" then I would do it.

Myers will not be another chara. He isn't getting an excuse from me for being young. He's been in the league long enough, his mistakes cost us game after game. Expecially against WPG. DO THE DEAL

Here's a question: does anyone think Hamilton has a real source for this? Here's the link: http://wgr550.com/HAMILTON--Getzlaf-can-be-here-tomorrow-if---/11982787

Here's the quote:

Here’s the asking price as of now, it’s Tyler Myers. If Darcy parts with his prized defenseman Getzlaf can be in a Sabres uniform by tomorrow against the Leafs. The Ducks are saying we’ll give you our best player if you give us yours. Now you decide if that’s a trade you’d make.

My point is that nowhere in the article does it say "my sources tell me" or "a league source has confirmed" or anything like that. It reads more like an opinion piece than any kind of real reporting.

I agree with his basic premise, especially this part:

There’s one problem with trying to move Derek Roy, nobody, yes you read that right, nobody in the NHL wants him right now.

But he doesn't mention any sources, so I'm kinda thinking all of this is just his opinion.

Anyone think differently?
