Ken Sawyer was with Pegula in Detroit last night.

I noticed that too. Something may not be imminent, but they must be at least starting to evaluate.

Could be something, prolly just that they're all going to the Chicago "Road Crew" thing.

I don't think 8/10 fans could tell you who Sawyer is and 95/100 probably couldn't ID him walking by. From what I understand he has been off the scene in Buffalo. Maybe it is nothing, but it is the only hope as far as I'm concerned. I'm not going to bog down every thread by being snarky. Pegula made himself clear the other day, Unless his view changes, I am of the opinion this team is in too much trouble to worry about.

My guess is that Sawyer just wanted to go on a well earned vacation to Detroit. I mean, who wouldn't do that?

I just don't believe Pegula is going to sit on his hands and let this thing continue as is forever. None of us know him personally, or know what he is like behind the scenes. The man went from nothing to building a business he could sell for $3.5 billion. I know he comes off as "aws shucks" and a really down to earth, nice family man. But let's be real, you don't become that successful in a cutthroat gas industry by being a clueless, super nice guy. Guys like him are wired differently than most people. Even Steve Jobs, who for some reason everybody loves, was a cold-blooded killer when it came to his business's success. Not to mention, hydro-fracking is a....questionable....endeavor from an ethical perspective. But Pegula didn't let that stop him from using it to become rich.

I think Pegula was starstruck when he first bought the team, and there was some "cool factor" about owning the team you love. But at some point, that will wear off. I know he didn't buy the Sabres to make himself a ton of money, but he also didn't spend 10% of his net worth for a team to miss the playoffs. If I was worth a million dollars and bought a $100K car, and it was a lemon, it wouldn't matter to me that I could buy 9 more. I just spent 10% of my cash on something that sucks, and I'd be damned if I just sat there and took it. To me, listening to anything Pegula and Black say in public is like listening to a GM around the draft and free agency, it's all just fluff. My guess is he's trying to some pressure off the team, because it's clear they're mentally soft and cannot deal with expectations. The year they won the President's Trophy, they NEVER looked right in the playoffs. Could it be that expectations got to them? I think Pegula's and Black's public comments are meant to alleviate some pressure, so the guys can just go out and play instead of worrying so much about everything. Obviously it hasn't worked, but I genuinely don't think we should assume that just because he said it, that's exactly how he feels or represents things going on behind closed doors.

This. Clearly the air is good around Detroit this time of year.

Great article on Ken Sawyer. The take is that the Pens had to hit bottom before they could become a strong franchise for years to come.

Hit rock Bottom, pick 1st overall a couple times while picking in the top 5 the rest of the time, and win the Crosby Sweepstakes.

Its not like they rebuilt to become the team they are right now by just making shrewd moves adn hockey knowledge, there was a crap load of luck involved too

^This.

It not only takes hitting rock bottom sometimes, but you need to be able to stay there as well. At least as far as the Pens are concerned. It's amazing how smart their front office became after acquiring all those high lottery picks. Crosby, Malkin, Staal, Fleury. Can you say "strong down the middle?"

GO SABRES!!!

Welcome back ... missed you.

Glad you didn't let the bastards win.

I guess someone did move to Nova Scotia while we weren't looking.

GoDD,

Not sure what is up with Shrader's Nova Scotia angle. Perhaps there is some kind of envy happening here. NS is a beautiful place with nice people. Also, if you look at the map and envision Canada as a male form ... NS looks like a long and fat appendage. Anyway, for what it's worth, you are always welcome in Nova Scotia my friend.

My hopes for the Sabres have hit rock bottom, along with the team this year. It is rather freeing having that burden released. We have no place to go but up. So, even Shrader's snarks don't affect me, not that they ever did.

Thanks for posting this.

Did anyone else notice that the process took 10 years.

Me thinks that is a more realistic time frame vs. the "three years" time table as proclaimed by Mr. Pegula.
