I believe in Pegula.

I think he did what he promised to do this summer.

I also believe the Darcy is an incompetent GM.

As in the gas well drilling biz.....no results and heads

will start to roll. He's very patient, but it is starting to wear thin.

Is his heart in the right place though.

of this, i have no doubt. at all.

I can't tell if his heart is more into the history of the franchise or into winning. Crying when meeting Perreault?

he is clearly a sentimental fellow; i got no beef with that.

"Ruff's not going anywhere"?

a mistake.

Those all look like his heart is leaning towards history to me.

he is proud of the team's history and pedigree, as he should be. and i know he wants to honor it and improve on it by winning a cup.

Injuries do not explain the team's lack of heart. They have zero heart; zero passion. I pine for the days right after lockout when those guys laid down a directive that they were going to go on some crazy winning streak, that they actually committed to it and played like their hair was on fire, and were energizing. Yeah, they got kicked around/pushed around every now and then, but they nearly always got the upper hand or at least played with passion. Not this year. To me now, they are just going through the motions. Every presser is the same; every quote is the same. Blah blah blah. Maybe they are playing scared, maybe they are griping sticks too tight, maybe they hesitate because the lines keep changing, maybe they don't give a crap, or maybe they have just given up. I don't like how they have responded to adversity this season... way too soft, way too inconsistent, way too apathetic... they have burned brightly every now and then, but far too infrequent and for far too short of a time. And people wonder why FNC is so quiet. Just look at the team.

People with the big bucks (Terry) and that get paid bigger bucks (Black) need to find a fix and relying on "injuries" as the panacea for everything is just too shortsighted-- it dodges other issues associated with this team. Too much money for this kind of product is just unacceptable.

I've always been a Lindy supporter- I think he genuinely wants to win just one cup for Buffalo and either retire or move on and I applaud him for that. I've laughed at those of you over the years (and even up to now) saying fire Darcy and Ruff. But I've come over to the dark side. Over 14 years, the model ain't working and we need to find a different path forward that simply being a farm team for the NHL. Ruff doesn't know what to do. Darcy is either too scared or to set in his ways to do anything. And Terry won't pull the trigger on a GM/Coach change this season, no matter how much lower this goes (it would be out of character for him to do this). I hope Terry comes to his senses as this long season winds down and ends and makes a change in the off-season; I don't see him making a major move until then. I would love for the team to prove me wrong and that somehow, some way they could (for the second year in a row) kick it into some crazy gear to get to the playoffs, but somehow I don't think they will this time around.

Not gonna win over many with the injury card.

Shades of Larry Quinn and the infamous Man Games Lost spreadsheet.

I think it is safe to say the natural gas business smarts don't easily translate in to hockey business smarts.

In sports, the best time to evaluate a team is when they face adversity. This team has faced adversity and, with the exception of a few players like Vanek and Pominville, failed miserably. The GM failed to improve the roster, the coach failed to get more out of his players and the players themselves showed themselves for what they are.

IMO, Status Quo v2.0 needs to realize that Milan Lucic has adversely effected this team more than all of the injuries combined.

Terry doesn't get on sabre space and read how upset we all our. Why doesnt someone get a large group and go down to the arena and have signs stating what you want done?

OCCUPY FIRST NIAGARA!!! ;)

I want some accountability from this franchise. I thought that would be one of many benefits to come with the new ownership.

Terry, I know you're new to this, but there comes a time where you have to make moves you may not feel comfortable making. Even if you have faith in your personnel/talent level, if the production is lacking then you have to change that. Darcy, Lindy and the gang may be your buds, but you need to throw the fans a bone and change things up.

Terry Pegula has come off as the ultimate fanboy. To blame injuries for this team's problems sounds like Darcy and Lindy have been in his ear and he ate it all up. Tyler Myers had been the only injury of significance and he wasn't playing well before the injury.

This might be the lowest I've felt about this organ-eye-zation. A team filled with players I don't like and an owner who sticks by their sides no matter what.

GoDD?

When I said he had to say or do something people here said this to me: It's not his place, it's up to LR/DR/TB, NOT him. So I'll spin that to everyone else now. His said something and his partly right, (we wouldn't be leading any division with the amount of injuries we've had we should, however have a playoff spot) but I'd prefer him not to meddle to much in a sport his still new to. Charles Wang (NYI owner if I'm not mistaken) all over again.

Good post. It's been what, less than a full year since he was announced as the next owner, and halfway through his first season. I'd rather him let the hockey people make decisions regarding the roster and not meddle. Unless he is actively preventing Darcy from making a deal, then I'm fine with him staying out of the hockey personnel side.

Now if TP mandates change and DR refuses to pull the trigger, then I'll expect DR to be updating his resume. If not then I'll be pissed because he is allowing employee insubordination and is all talk.

My best guess (and my gut) say that he is using this season to see how the pieces fit, to see what the team needs, and to learn about how running a hockey team actually works. If there are no changes and the team misses the playoffs, then the fans need to stay home.

Things are not status quo at 1 Knox Drive for the simple fact that Terry is in charge. Yes, things look bleak for this season, but the past is the past. We haven't even had the 1 year anniversary of Pegula Day and I read a lot of posts acting like these are the darkest ages of the franchise.

I feel sort of like a Flyers fan might feel in a down year. Results aside, they always know that Ed Snider is going to do whatever it takes to fix the problem. I believe that about Terry as well.

This past offseason was the most dinamic in recent memory, and not by accident. I believe there is more of that to come. And if Ruff and Reiger are not the guys, then Terry will thank them for their services and send them on their way. I am more optimistic about the Sabres future than EVER.

"This team cannot be made up of common men"...and it won't be.

Frankly all talk with no results. Management has proven to be inept and he LOVES them. I trust he will come to accept their short comings like the locals have. Until then, and he bids them adios, we will continue to suffer.

I'm with ya. I was thinking today about if TP bought the Rangers instead of the Sabres, and he told the NY press to stop being so mean. How ridiculous would that be?

Great article, thanks for sharing. I agree with Mr. Sullivan. Not only are the Sabres farther away from where they were last year but going forward as well. Going into the siummer I thought they had a team that was already good together but could use some fine tuning. If anything, injuries or not they are terrible. Not only is there no hope down the stretch but i'm not seeing it for next year either or anytime going forward if everything remains in tact. Not to stray so far off topic but I do think the Bills are closer at this point and time and closer than some would think, but thats a different discussion for a different thread....

If ever there was a more obvious contrast to how our GM works, it would have to top this, another beauty from TBN.

"I'm not interested in getting our [butts] kicked in the first round," Burke told the Fan 590 last week. "I'm not paid just to get in the playoffs. We could have got in last year if we'd traded our kids for a couple of 30-year-olds. I want to get in with a reasonable chance to [advance deep] or bloody someone's nose while doing it."

That is the mentality that we need right there. I'm not saying Burke is the right guy. But he has the right mindset. Makes me angry all over again that we didn't sell off last year. Our team is most definitely a reflection of its management.

And for even more contrast;

"I give our players and coaches credit for this resilience," Burke told reporters at the time. "Each time a man has been lost, somebody has grabbed an oar. And it's the youngest group in the NHL, it's kids that are stepping up. And the coaches have stayed positive and refused to give the players any excuses for failure."

I can't disagree with any of this. If nothing else this team should be playing pissed of right now, but instead it's the same soft disinterested effort most nights. I could almost buy the injury excuse and the losses if these guys could muster 60 minutes of piss and vinegar hockey. They are basically unwatchable these days. Lucic/Miller was a watershed moment for this team and it exposed the Sabres for exactly who they are.
