Pretty much sums it up

http://www.sabrespac...blogger-summit/

Not mentioned in his article:

Andreychuk and Brad may will be at the tailgate tent party in the coming months.

Black/Canal side, he has ideas but he's not sharing yet.

He refuted the Lindy contract being reported.

They are looking into getting wi-fi hotspots inside the Center. Something like Minnesota has where fans can watch replays or even order food from their seats.

Players have made an anti-bullying video that should be out soon.

The Salvation Army and their issues with LGBT were brought up. Black said he was going to talk to them and would stop their access to the Center if they continue.

Thanks Chz.

Well no difficult subjects were covered but I can't really say I expected them too.

The fact the article says that the rules of engagement (what was on and off topic for the evening) were spelled out coming in does tell me they are painfully aware of them though.

Sorry we wasted your time Chz by coming up with questions. I wish I would have known there would be a blackout on any questions of real substance. Then my question would have been "You did such a good job putting up a beer shelf over the urinals.....is it possible to install a vomitorium trough over the beer shelf so Sabre fans can puke in between periods as they pee, after paying an average of $70 to watch this team?"

Holy disappointing. Give them bread and circuses.

I think it's time for me to take an emotional write-off on this team. There are better odds of seeing WWIII started soon than any substantial changes involving the actual product on the ice. It really is too bad.

I'm kind of curious as to why they're even bothering with bloggers in the first place.

Give the passionate fans who closely follow the team and who thousands of others look to for their opinions, goodies and freebies to keep them on your side so you keep pressure on the team at the lowest levels possible until their Hail Marys are answered and the team can squeak into the playoffs.

I'm sure they weeded through the crap right a bit, but there are many fans out there who are just as passionate, if not more, who don't write their crappy little blogs that all of 3 people will read. That medium as a whole is such a barren wasteland. I'm sure we could all come up with a long list of better ways to reach out to the fans (and no, I don't mean the obvious one of improving the product).

The "Summit" was planned from the beginning of the season. You make it sound like it got put together last week just to shut people up.

maybe we need to define "blogger."

for example, would an admin of this site be entitled to get credentials? (i know chz is aware of what went down, but it wasn't clear to me that she was there in person.)

would the guys who established the pegula day thing on facebook be able to get a lanyard?

in any case, i think it makes a lot of sense and is forward-thinking for the franchise to reach out to the non-mainstream elements of teh intertubes -- bloggers, social network types, etc. that's where the future is -- at least a good chunk of it is, anyway.

It reminds me of the good old days where you could take your report card to Ted's and get a free hot dog for every A you had on it.

I'm sure you had a good time Chz. Thank you for the report.

A great point. I'm sure it was very specifically defined for this event. Personally, I wish they'd avoid the word blog at all costs. There is plenty of serious stuff out there, but that 12 year old posting in him mom's basement gets to use that label as well. Clearly they're not the same thing.

also a good point. the term "blog" has a certain grandpa/out-of-touch ring to it, in this context, no? i would say Social Media Summit is better. but, again, it depends on how they're defining who's eligible.

but, as i noted above, credentialing that kid would cut back on the beer costs.

C'mon, Drane. It's not an "us against them" kind of thing at all. Nobody's trying to pull the wool over anyboy else's eyes and I seriously doubt anybody is being "fooled" by a deliberate attempt to mislead the public. Our fans are pretty sophisticated, have been around the block a few times and, God knows, have had their collective hearts broken on numerous occassions. And nobody is more acutely aware of that than Terry Pegula.

GO SABRES!!!

Being a former reporter, I understand that from time-to-time a PC is held where they try to enforce certain parameters on the content. In most cases, especially politics, reporters rarely honor those parameters. Well, maybe they do more now as mainstream "journalism" has gone over-the-top with "access", "influence", and "perks".

Anyway, for Black to try and side-step the obvious story amongst a pack of "journalists" is highly questionable, and the (apparent) fact that these "journalists" went along with it without trying to force the issue indicates to me that there is an access/perk understanding here. And that is bad news for the fans because you are assured to be hit with the spin and that spin will influence the reportage.

Did I miss the story as to where the Chad avatar went? I haven't been following closely lately. But damned if I don't miss him already.

I'm well aware of concept of "framing the debate." It's too bad the Fourth Pillar lost it's balls to corporate ownership and consolidation long ago.

You seem to be saying that our fans are too naive and need the filter of pure journalism to have informed opinions. I think the product on the ice does a nice job of that all by itself. There is simply no spinning that.

I'd hardly call an invited list of bloggers from the community a press conference. Especially since the event planned well in advance of the team's current struggles. Nor do I think any of the invitees was corrupted by free beer and pizza and a tour of the new facillitites. Most journalists still require good, hard cash.

The time will come when that PC is called and journalists will be there to ask the hard questions. If Black sidesteps them in that forum, then he really won't have sidestepped them at all. Our fans aren't as naive as some think they are. And again, I think Pegula knows that better than most owners.

It's not simply corporate ownership and "consolidation" that has neutered journalism. There is quite a lot more to the whats and whys of journalist corruption than the space and patience of this forum would allow. Journalism by its very nature is corrupted.

But, please, no straw men: I did not say anything about the fans and their opinions. It's obvious people are seeing the sub-par product on the ice; and it's also obvious the Sabres are not addressing it either by action or by word. The latter is what I refer to - obviously.

A press conference is a press conference regardless of what outlet the attendees use to disseminate their reporting. The purpose of the event is secondary to the pressing news of day.

And if you are trying to convince me that journalists can not be corrupted by perks and access (free food, tour of non-public facilities in this instance) then you will never succeed. "Most journalists still require good, hard cash..." is laughable - you really have no clue what you're talking about. A reporter/journalist will happily accept invites, VIP-like access and recognition, the anticipation of even a little influence, a reputation, free food and drinks, and other non-monetary perks to do the bidding of a person or organization. Money bribes are generally reserved for more important people - if we can speculate (since I was never offered money, nor anyone I know).

The Sabres WILL NOT call a press conference to address what they are planning to do about their troubles - they will only call a press conference AFTER they do something. The Sabres aren't alone in resorting to that strategy. The only time you will get "inside thinking" is when one of the reporters with "access" is allowed to let something leak, or a good reporter catches someone off guard.

Wait for Friday when Darcy is on WGR - Schopp may put forward a few moderately good questions, but will not follow up. Black hasn't been pressed yet to give any more than he has. No one is pressing the players for anything other than the bites they usually give.

This is the way it works. For you to try and turn that around and make it sound like I am disparaging the fans is asinine and insulting - especially when I have been one of the few here to stick up for the fans over the years. I fail to see the relationship between what information the Sabres release (and how it's released) and the fans' level of intelligence.

Relatedly, but a side note:

All of a sudden there seem to be "people" who are all about the fans and think the fans' opinions are all that - yet prior to this season, yea, prior to December, the fans were to blame for not making the F'N Center a raucous party - the fans who were down on Roy were all wrong - the fans questioning Miller are fools.

And so it goes: the fans now wondering why the Sabres organization is silent (read: Black and Pegula) are fools for questioning the greatness of TPegs and his dream kingdom.

Sabres.com has videos up with the names and websites of the "bloggers" asking the questions.

There was only 1 video that interested me, so I watched. Someone asked why fans should keep showing up.........my favorite part of it was when Ted Black was about to use the word, "tertiary", but bailed out and went with the word, "third". That was an exciting look into Black's mind and his view of the event.
