SportsFan88 Posted January 15, 2012 Report Posted January 15, 2012 Jesus H. Christmas, Ruff could die of a heart attack tomorrow and you guys would want him propped up like some ###### up Weekend at Bernie's ###### because you piss yourselves at the unknown. I don't care if the coach they pick is from some unknown "minor" league, so long as he's the guy in that league whose teams, year after year, are the team that nobody else wants to play. The second you find one of those, you've just found a guy who can replace Lindy Ruff. Found your guy, his name is Steve Martinson. He has 6 Championships to his credit as a head coach in AA Hockey. Haha

Haha HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA funny stuff, right? You guys like that, you'll find this stuff freaking HI-larious.... ..........."It's a tough one," said Sabres goalie Jhonas Enroth, who made 36 saves. "We weren't really ready from the start. We didn't play as good as we can or as good as we have to do on the road."............... ....... "We don't skate hard enough as a forward group," center Derek Roy said. "We've got to get to skating and making plays."............. I take it you think that a coach needs to have been in the "big leagues" a while to know how to get his team ready to play or to skate harder? :wallbash: Lindy, you are safe, baby.
drnkirishone Posted January 15, 2012 Report Posted January 15, 2012 no coach can make a player skate harder. thats up to the player and is exactly a description of the problem so many have with this team...... players that dont try hard enough. Noone from the outside can say if lindy didn't prepare them to play or if he had things right and the team didn't come out and deliver

No NHL coach should have to regularly get on and stay on professionals to skate hard. Unless you have a roster infected with the mentality of soft, underperforming, weak-minded SGMs.

Bmwolf21 Posted January 16, 2012 Report Posted January 16, 2012 Chicken or the egg ... chicken or the egg ... Are you implying that Ruff has somehow coached the intrinsic motivation out of them?
carpandean Posted January 16, 2012 Report Posted January 16, 2012 Are you implying that Ruff has somehow coached the intrinsic motivation out of them? Playing a little Devil's advocate mostly. There are definitely times that it seems systemic, though. If it is, then either answer should mean that someone (GM, if the players came that way, or coach, if he made them that way) gets fired.

I can buy that Lindy's been in one place too long with too many of the same type of athletes, and there is a good chance that they've tuned him out. But in terms of effort...I just don't buy it. A professional athlete shouldn't need a coach or another team leader (i.e., captain) to motivate them to play hard. After all, these are professional athletes. Now the GM who assembled this roster of soft, SGMs....that is another story altogether.
deluca67 Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 I mentioned this in another thread, the Sens can end the night 17 points ahead of the Sabres. Compare the two teams. G/G Sens 3.00 Sabres 2.44 GA/G Sens 3.08 Sabres 3.00 PP% Sens 17.6% Sabres 18.1% PK% Sens 81.4% Sabres 82.7 Hits Sens 1,098 Sabres 843 BkS Sens 679 Sabres 580

So, all those other teams with captains are doing it why, for posterity? Tradition? A meaningless ritual?
darksabre Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 Now I wish I hadn't read this thread. What a shitshow.
TheChimp Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 I wish you hadn't read it, either. But you know what I'm gonna take this SportsFan88's word for it and put the call out for this Steve Martinson character to replace Lindy Ruff as head coach of the Buffalo Sabres. Let's see what we can find for the first volley... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EWBiMPvevo The whole interview is good, but if you have ADD, skip to the 1:04 mark and you might like what he says there. Then, for the best part, go to the 2:45 mark. All you should need to hear. I'd instantly take a chance on a guy like this.

I woulddn't want him anywhere near the Sabres - his tough guy personna didn't get him anywhere with the jackals. And his wife is a pill popping drunk with questionable moral character and round heels.

Listen to what he says there in this clip. His team led the league in hits, fighting majors, penalty-killing, and GOALS. He says that if players don't finish their checks, he doesn;t have time for their opinions. I like that kind of attitude. If you don't, big whoop, go hang out with Darcy and Lindy at their next Tupperware party, I don't care. That stuff about his wife...sounds personal to me.

I do, and stand by my statement. Seriously, he's a bonehead. 6 championships - 5 in the WCHL and one in the UHL. He hasn't done annoying in the ECHL, and has never sniffed the AHL, but lets make him the coach of an NHL franchise. Brilliant!

Brilliant! He said he wasnt interested in the AHL because of how the roster works. In the NHL you can atleast ask your GM to clean house. The difference anymore between AA and the AHL is hardly anything anymore. Martinson is a bonehead - seriously, he has a head full of rocks. I woulddn't want him anywhere near the Sabres - his tough guy personna didn't get him anywhere with the jackals. And his wife is a pill popping drunk with questionable moral character and round heels. He turned the franchise around. He got us to the playoffs, they lost close series. Anything can happen in the playoffs. The only time we got beat badly was against Cincy. The best goalie he ever had to work with was Chris Holt and the guy didnt even try. We never had goalies under him, thanks to the affiliates
