Welcome to the board. I really like your contributions so far and I have noticed a swing in your perception as you have gone from post 1 through 7.

Anyway ...

In regards to the 7 year contract for Ruff. Since , I do not know who said it (have not had time to read the whole thread) I do not completely buy it yet. Even if it is true I believe it is a retirement / pension plan with heartfelt thanks from Uncle Terry. Hopefully, DR has a similar plan.

I was watching the Canadian feed of the game (Sportsnet) and they said it and showed a graphic of Ruff and him having a 7 year contract. It's unfortunate if that's the case. If this is true, then it is 110% Darcy's job to now make a trade to shake this team up because as Pegula said "Lindy ain't going nowhere!"

On a side note, I don't want to blame the owner who at this point has more money than brains because atleast he's trying to make this team better by spending the money (look at the Bills). It's DR continuing to say he is not going to make a trade that really gets to me. Why in the h&ll would you not try to make a deal happen at this point? We're only half way through the year so there is still time to turn things around if we get on fire but the way things are going I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Lindy's idea of coaching is to bench Regehr for the 2nd half of the 3rd period and to see that Leino gets the most ice time among forwards. The players are not responding to anything he's doing. If it was a few players that were not playing to their potential, you could say it's on the players, but when it's basically the whole team, it has to be the coaching.

Regehr went out to eat with vanek. He was sick too.

I cannot even describe my disgust with this team right now. I thought things were going to be different. But somehow we're worse off than we were at this time last year.

Technically, we have the same exact record. However, there is no heart, or inspiration in their play that says "hey, they may actually turn this around."

There's no hope in sight

Help us Terry Pegula, you're our only hope

Unfortunately Terry Pegula got us into this mess. Sorry Terry but I'll call a spade a spade here. By retaining Regier who in my mind should have been shuffled out of Buffalo a few years ago and signing Ruff to a shiny new lifetime contract you've set this team back light years. Swallow your pride and get a hockey mind capable of putting a real G.M. in place to fire this coach and bring in a coach that can work with the players that remain after the purge of this lifeless, talentless, heartless core. Us Sabres fans are dying by 1000 cuts watching this listless team go through the motions.

:( I cannot argue with this

my attitude swings heavily...before a sabres game i am excited and i want everyone to be excited...then i watch the game and i just want to go into a hole and die.

i do love my sabres....but i do hate my sabres.

go sabres!

Wow.. Wow.. Wow.... Are we seriously blaming Darcy for all of this? We would be complaining even more if we never made trades for Regehr, Ehrhoff and Leino.... At least they're trying...

Plus, Darcy says every year that he isn't looking to make a trade and then he always ends up making one at the deadline. That's another thing: trades almost always happen at the deadline, not in the middle of January

Put your heads on people. We still got 3 months left and our team is still somewhat injured. Things will be looking good pretty soon

Mr. Pegula, is that you?

So if you were Lindy Ruff would you continue to put your 7 million dollar guy in front of the goaltender and let your tallest young defenseman shoot from the point with his eratic, more often than not waist high and up, slap shot ? He is already banged up, and has been knocked out of atleast two or three games over the last two years by Mr.Myers. Either Vanek needs to move away from the net when Myers starts his six second slap shot wind up or somebody needs to show the kid what is required in that situation . The defensemen think, I am not getting in front of that, if it is the one out of ten that is actually on net ,let Vanek take the hit. Then they laugh so hard they wet their pants.

Woah...just, woah.

I am blaming Darcy because he was the one who signed the contracts and extensions for these players. Darcy is the beginning of the problem, and it flows down hill from there. FYI, we didn't trade for Leino, we signed him to a VERY lucrative contract IMO overpaying him, by a lot.

Darcy says he is not making any 'imminent' trades. he has never said he is not making one at the deadline. At this point in the season, as a GM, you have to realize that the PLAYERS are NOT really TRYING, they are going thru the motions. You can see it on the back check (lack there of). The forwards GLIDE back into the zone. You can see it on the forecheck, when a shot goes high and/or wide, how many times does Stafford or Roy watch the puck fly around and not move?

Darcy needs to see this, and shake things up. Doing the same thing over and over and over and expecting different results, all the while geting the same results is the definition of insanity. This team needs a change, and Darcy needs to pull the trigger, and if teams do not want to trade with him, then Pegula or Black or whomever need to get someone in here that will (1) shake things up, (2) not overvalue core, lazy players and (3) who can pull the trigger and make something happen.

/rant

rant/ EDIT: Also, Leino is just now putting his big boy pants on and trying. Regehr has been trying all year, and I just don't know what to say about Ehrhoff. /rant

In case nobody has noticed this team has stopped playing for Lindy... This is Washington two months ago. There are only two options for management.

This seems to be about right. I mean how many goals have they scored in their last few games? You could count it on one hand.

Well if the rumors are true regarding the seven year deal Lindy signed to coach this team then forget about firing Ruff. I don't care how much money Pegs has, he's not going to fire a coach one year into a seven year contract, period. If the players arn't responding then ship some of them out of town.

Agreed. .IMO Ruff has been here too long and has alientated the players with his interpersonal style. If he has a seven year contract. (this is not a system or scheme issue) That leaves only option two....let Vanek, Millier,Erhoff, Regehr, Roy and Pom go too... plenty of other teams who would like to have them.. even Vanek at his presnt salary.. regardless of what some of the "fans" may think about Vanek here. With a center he is a legit 40+ guy .. They can keep Myers, Gerbe, Ennis and Roth plus all the AHLers . They have not paid their Ruff dues yet and thus have not earned the right to be traded. Darcy will be in trade nirvana, saving his boy Lindy . All coaches have a shelf life, unless they work for the Sabres.

I will respect your arguement on this, but respectfully disagree with you.

What would a 7 year coaching deal be worth? Probably $15 to $20 million. I'll be generous, as Mr. Pegula really threw a lot of money around this summer ... say $25 million, even $50 million. My point is ... whatever the amount is ... it's pocket money for Mr. Pegula. He has buried players and NHL salary in Rochester and Europe. He would "eat" that contract in a second, IMHO.

That's fair and I think your numbers are probably pretty accurate. However, the move to sign Ruff to that long term deal was Terry's alone. Terry did not write up any of the conracts with the players, Darcy did. Therefore, I think he's going to be much more inclined in either having some trades be made or if necessary waiving a guy like Lenio who is clearly showing he is not worth the money in order to open up the cap space. If he's going to burn money then i think it'll be waiving a massively overpaid player (Stafford also comes to mind) then firing his coach.

So when it comes to food poisoning, I don't even want to think about why that would be labeled as an upper body injury vs. a lower body injury.

The food was laced with mushrooms.

My guess is that he still has a bad shoulder (have you noticed the times he has tried to use his slap shot in the last few games)and the Pheneuf hit may have agravated it.They key on him . He gets banged alot, plus Myers clocked him again with one of those patented "where do you think that one will go" slap shots, so he is probably hurting imo

Food poisioning? That could be true too. If he was sick it just another nick on the list , i would have had him go back on the ice just long enough to throw up on Pheneuf, then i would have told him to take the rest of the day off.

!! a new defense for guys that get banged alot?? auto regurgitation! Just eat a few hard boiled eggs before the game. Then a little grapefruit juice and you are good to go. Now all you have to do is skate hard on the next shift and then find Lucic
