SportsFan88 Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 Nothing new to add at this time. Still digging. Haha my last post didnt go through a couple minutes ago. I said this: So when you did more snooping last night taz find out anything? I'm growing impatient about this crapola. This has to be the worst kept secret i've heard around here regarding hockey. It's all the banter on the concourse at the games and at the rec rink as well. Whoever let it leak is either the worst secret keeper ever or someone is playing a whole city very badly... Ironic you then posted here soon after
SportsFan88 Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 Apparently there is a Q & A in a blog tonight with Sabres president Mr. Black, one of my fellow Jackals fans should ask him if he knows anything. LOL
tazman911 Posted January 12, 2012 Report Posted January 12, 2012 Sent in a question, never got answered. Nothing new to report on this end.
SportsFan88 Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 Korab quick question for ya, you admitted your not really a Jackals guy but more of an EC guy. How good are your sources? Not questioning you in that they are bad just wondering how on par they usually are because some loud mouth wannabe know it all on another site message board claims to know everything on Jackals hockey(which couldn't be more of the opposite)is telling us not to believe the hype and that it's not gunna happen. I have a hard time thinking that this is gunna end up different then you are telling us only because oh I don't know it's been the talk at all the recent home games. Either somebody is playing a whole city a fool or someone who can't be trusted gained info and spilled it. I first heard this rumor way back in November by the Assistant of the Rec Rink.

Would bet that guy is in the know over jackalsfan1 My sources are very, very good, and I indicate whether the information I post is rumor or something more reliable. The Assistant rec rink manager (whether you are referring to Carnegie or Miller) doesn't do anything but drive the zamboni and a mop bucket. They don't know anything. I prefer EC hockey, but spend a great deal of time at First Arena nonetheless. What I can tell you is that Pegula was trying like hell to buy the whole kit and kaboodle. That is confirmed by many sources. The latest information I have, and it is a rumor but with some indications of reliability, is that Pegula will be buying the facility only, and the gladiators will be coming here next year. When I know more, I will share.

Was just curious because everything you have posted on here in this thread I have heard the same thing in person from all different kinds of people on more than one occassion so I was wondering. Because it sounds hopeful; and realistic when so many others have gained this info over time. I do klnow that when I heard Don was leaving that the first person who told me that way back when was told when he got his season tickets this year that some announcement would be forthcoming this year regardinjg the future of the franchise. Over time with word spreading and what not one could definitely argue that the pieces are falling into place for this to actually be what that announcement will regard. That guy was Miller, usually decked out in EC gear, ironically. Sounds good. Hope its coming to fruition. Just wonder when they would consider announcing it? I'm guessing after the season. The Elmira Gladiators? Could definitely live with that. Thats what I wish the team name was in the first place, before I ever knew about Gwinnett. They have a sick logo. Team is also almost as good as ours this year, so we could inherit a good team. Our team is good but don't kid yourself anybody. This is one of those "Championship or Bust" teams that are going to all go their seperate ways after the season. We have a lot of career AHL Guys on our team. I hope Pegula can lure in EC, i'm sorry but the Domes suck. I have nothing against them per say. They are just out in the middle of nowhere and it's cold and it's location doesn't help bring the student body to games. The arena is near bars and within walking distance. Would be a great investment IMO. The arena was originally intended for them, thats why the seats are purple.
SportsFan88 Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 Wonder how Pegula found out about Elmira and the Jackals? I'm guessing when Rivet signed?
korab rules Posted January 14, 2012 Author Report Posted January 14, 2012 Wonder how Pegula found out about Elmira and the Jackals? I'm guessing when Rivet signed? I don't think the location of ECHL teams is any secret.
SportsFan88 Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 I don't think the location of ECHL teams is any secret. Could be, hear anything on Rivet this week? Not going to be back still tonight I see.
SportsFan88 Posted January 15, 2012 Report Posted January 15, 2012 Interesting, Rivet wasnt on the bench last night assistant coaching. Which is what he had been doing all year whenever he was hurt.
tazman911 Posted January 15, 2012 Report Posted January 15, 2012 Funny how that works with Rivet. One time he is on the bench, the next time he is not. As for the other news. Have not really heard anything new. I guess Robbie did tell a fan that the Elmira Jackals were not sold. Duh, thought we knew that one. If anyone finds out any info, let us know here.

Would love to walk up to him and ask him why the hell he is still here if he gave an ultimatum way back, but for some reason the last time he saw me he was rude, he was either messing with me or intentionally being rude, not sure which.....
SportsFan88 Posted January 16, 2012 Report Posted January 16, 2012 Heard from a buddy of mine at the game today who knows Robbie pretty well that its a donje deal and Korab's details are about dead on.
SportsFan88 Posted January 16, 2012 Report Posted January 16, 2012 This is what I was sent in writing by someone: Rumor is the sale of First Arena has been finalized as of 01.09.2012 (buyer Terry Pegula, owner of Buffalo Sabres). Tamer Afr will pull Jackals franchise out of Elmira, and Gwinnett Gladiators will move from Georgia to Elmira NY. On top of that hearing that they are trying to come to an agreement on the Jackal name and its rights. A press conference on Don becoming the Pioneers new Owner is slated for Wednesday. Funny, I think I saw Don working the games this weekend?
tazman911 Posted January 16, 2012 Report Posted January 16, 2012 Did you receive that in an email and if so are willing to forward it to me. Don was volunteering his time to help Robbie out.
SportsFan88 Posted January 16, 2012 Report Posted January 16, 2012 Did you receive that in an email and if so are willing to forward it to me. Don was volunteering his time to help Robbie out. It was on a Facebook post. "Intellectual ECHL Talk" Interesting, wonder why Don is willing to help out at the arena still. Rivet bwas back oln the bench last night, interesting.... The 2nd part of that post I got from a Facebook friend when I wrote on their page.

Funny, I think I saw Don working the games this weekend? Any report that mentions the involvement of Tamr Afr is per se unreliable. Tamr hasn't had any involvement with the franchise since the opening press conferences. The old man controls every aspect of the organization. And Nichols isn't giving doc ultimatums. It's the other way around. The rink isn't making enough money for Doc to export to Egypt, and Robbie's head is on the chopping block. Don is still helping Robbie, because they are business parthers in the Pios, and there is no one left at the rink to do anything. When the Pios announcements are made, I think you will find Robbie's wife as one of the new owners of the Pios.

Wonder why the rink isn't making enough money? Could be all those free tickets they are giving away and the astronomical concession prices? Attendance has been way down this year and the team might be our best ever. Robbie, his wife and Don all owning the Pios? Damn thats something. Can't wait for tomorrow. Guess that makes sense why Robbie is on the way out, if Afr is or has given him ultimatum's I wonder why he still hasn't shown him the door yet, knowing his new business venture he woulde probably be thrilled to leave. Wonder if robbie will become the GM of Dunn Field and the Pios? Would love to see them bring back pro ball. Surprised he's sticking in the area though.
korab rules Posted January 17, 2012 Author Report Posted January 17, 2012 Egypt is the country doc is from and where he hides all his money from the tax man. I'm hearing rumors with some credibility that the whole deal with Pegula may be a no go. Afr hasn't made his mortgage payments in years, and the bank won't forclose because they don't want to own an empty arena. Other attempts to purchase the arena have been scuttled because the bank refuses to wave all its mortgage fees and delinquencies. The place may be unsellable until the landscape changes. The most likely landscape changing event would be Afr pulling up stakes and leaving.

I can't wait for this summer when we all find out that the hockey team is leaving town and there will be no hockey next year. Time to demolish that place and kill off the city as there is nothing else here.... As long as he is alive we won't see any other person come into town and take charge. My biggest fear is coming true, it is the last year we have a team. It's felt odd being in that place all year, sticking a pizza oven in the bar, moving our big screen and it no longer works and Robbie wants the TVs in the hallways gone. Doc should go back to Egypt. If only there was some way to deport his a**. Whoever gave him citizenship to this country was a moron. It's funny, despite that place not being a money maker in 12 years I BET he has the finances to make his mortgage payment....

SportsFan88 Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 They already made that movie. Time for it to coime to life then!!!!
SportsFan88 Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 Was having a discussion with my old man who works in the banking industry about this and he asked why would that matter? They would probably be glad to get rid of Afr anyway, which is what I thought right away when you posted it. This is my added thought, why wouild the bank be responsible for owning an empty arena if a buyer(in Terry Pegula)was all lined up? He has the cash to pay off what that fraud hasn't over time. I advise whatever stupid bank is running the show here(Whether it be Chemung Canal or whatever)to do their homework. They will get money from T-Pegs unlike from Afr, they should know after 12 years that schmuck hasn't given AND WON'T give them a dime. These morons can thank themselves this summer when the arena joins the rest of downtown as a vacant building doing nothing but taklng up space. They should know better than any of us that downtown is dead, why alienate the last place in operation that isn't a restaurant or store? Save the Clemens Center, it's not open for half the year, I doubt it makes money when it is open.
SportsFan88 Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 Here is Afr's "Half Arena" in Port Huron: http://www.detroitur.../pha/index.html Hope the league doesn't let him move the team there..or the bank for that matter. Hey T-Pegs...Wheeling is for sale: http://www.theintelligencer.net/page/content.detail/id/564573/Nailers-Are-Up-For-Sale.html?nav=523
