Eleven Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 Online site that shows nascar, football, hockey, UFC and a variety of other sports related programs. Bills/Sabres telecasts are a couple of XS's main attractions.XS also provides online proffesional Tech support. XS does require a small donation/fee, I paid $17 for 3 months. Best quality streaming on the net in my opinion.(High quality feed is a must to watch Hockey) PM me, Kishop, PTR among others If anyone's interested. Sent you a message. If this is even remotely legal, I'm done with cable. I just don't use it enough.

Figster Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 Illegal streaming? Myself personally, I think XS is a online pilot program being tested but that is just my opinion. uninterupted service for 3 years.
ROC Sabres Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 So here's a question to all of you directv owners. I'm getting mine installed on saturday and have a bit of a problem with my current setup. I have a wall mounted TV with the cables in the wall. Problem is the only place I can put the directv box is either put a shelf above the wall or have the box on the dresser 4' to the left. My question is, do they give you all the cable you need to do the install or if i wanted to run more cables in my walls would I basically have to have it ready before the guy got here? Any advice/info would be nice. Thanks.
Figster Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 Sent you a message. If this is even remotely legal, I'm done with cable. I just don't use it enough. I've never actually approached XS on it, but he is a very friendly, helpful person and would be happy to answer any questions. Note: I've messaged some of your questions/concerns and I'll get back to you guys when XS responds
Who Else? Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 So here's a question to all of you directv owners. Any advice/info would be nice. Thanks. The guy that hooked mine up had every different type of HDMI cable available. He even left me a few for future considerations. Said it was part of the install. My advice is if you are unsure where you want the equiptment, ask for extra cables.

Said it was part of the install. My advice is if you are unsure where you want the equiptment, ask for extra cables. And there was no extra charge for it? Only reason I ask is because I'll need a 25' cable if I want to run it in the wall.
Who Else? Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 And there was no extra charge for it? Only reason I ask is because I'll need a 25' cable if I want to run it in the wall. No charge and it wasn't like he was my buddy or anything. My friend used to do the free installs and he told me that the installer had to use and do anything reasonable. If the guy is already possibly going to climb on your roof in the middle of January, He or she might also have the tools and skill to run said cable.
Taro T Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 So here's a question to all of you directv owners. Any advice/info would be nice. Thanks. Typically they will include 1 wall penetration for the 'free' install. If you think you're going to want to reroute where the cables go, make sure they leave you enough cable to get where you want. Also, I would recommend staying with the guy(s) while they are running the lines. Sometimes you end up with a bad installer that will cut corners; hopefully you don't.
carpandean Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 Typically they will include 1 wall penetration for the 'free' install. Usually you pay double for that kind of action, Cotton.

If you do find yourself in need of more and/or longer cables than the installer has, check out Monoprice -- inexpensive, quality alternatives to the ridiculously overpriced Monster cables. Unless he's getting a glory hole installed next to the wall-mounted TV, it sounds like he'll be in good shape. :bag:
Lanny Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 Really nice is that the Knicks game is on NBA Net tonight, but blacked out because it's also on MSG, which Time Warner doesn't carry. :wallbash:
Figster Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 I've never actually approached XS on it, but he is a very friendly, helpful person and would be happy to answer any questions. Note: I've messaged some of your questions/concerns and I'll get back to you guys when XS responds XS response:Hey bud, Well, it's not really illegal for them to use it, laws here in Canada are totally different than in the US, we don't have DMCA, nor any digital copyright law. As for the NHL, they absolutely DO NOT GIVE A ###### about people streaming NHL games.. for them, it's free exposure to the rest of the world..
bills_fan_in_raleigh Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 Directv installer will provide you whatever lenght HDMI cable ya need however too long of a run 50 feet is impractical but sounds like your talking 10 - 15 feet max. Hope your getting a DVR and multi room viewing plus check out DTV forums on DBSTALK for best and latets information and look into all the forums :-)
johnyvegas Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 I've been asking on this forum and no one has seemed to know so i thought I'd let anyone who's interested know that I am 99% certain that Sabres games are being broadcast via FIOS in the Syracuse area. I'll know for sure on Friday when they do my install. Whoot!

Maybe not now but at the end of the season or playoffs that feed will b killed.
Bmwolf21 Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 Usually you pay double for that kind of action, Cotton. Looks like it's gonna be a two-on-one, a menage-a-trois of pain!

Dog, with all thanks, this is pretty much the reaction I had after looking at it in detail. It just didn't look like something that was going to provide me with a long-term, no-cable solution. Thanks again, though, and I hope you enjoy it for as long as it lasts. In fact, I hope I'm completely wrong.

kishoph Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 They'll bust u like there's no tomorrow. Maybe not now but at the end of the season or playoffs that feed will b killed. The site's been operating for over 3 years and has never even been interrupted, as XS said, laws are different in Canada (I have no idea if this is so), I'm pretty sure that if it was illegal, it would have been shut down years ago, especially since he requires a "donation" to receive it, while free sites, that are indeed illegal are shut down and re-opened weekly. I can understand people being leery about joining, but I have not experienced any sort of problem, in the year I've been a member and have been able to watch every Sabres and Bills game if needed. I wouldn't try to persuade (force) the site on anyone, people should use their own discretion if they want to join it, but my opinion is, it's been good for me.
thesportsbuff Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 I would say it's definitely illegal. But because he charges a donation fee, the publicity is minimal. Sites like atdhe.net got too popular and far too much traffic. They were an easy target. I think his donation fee turns enough people away that the site won't grab the attention of the feds. Could be wrong, though.. but it's like those sites where people download movies/music/tv shows/etc. They require a membership. Huge sites, but because you have to register, they are still operating...

The NHL needs as much help as they can get recruiting new fans and like XS pointed out, they could care less about someone streaming hockey games online. NFL Football is much more enforced and I just watched a whole season of Bills including blackouts. BCS game was on XS tonight, all the NFL playoffs will be aired without a hitch. I agree, If it was going to be shutdown, it would have been a long, long time ago, could it happen, sure, especially If someone goes out of their way to do it, but when you can pay by the month (If you prefer) and its only$7, its not like its breaking the bank. Note: Most of the sites that have been busted (like theres no tomorrow) were back up and running the following day.
LabattBlue Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 This season has to have Pegs shaking his head. The play on the ice has been way below expectations(even with the injuries), he has to be second guessing himself for not cleaning house in the offseason(GM & HC), and now the Sabres games get yanked off TWC, affecting the majority of WNY hockey fans, in what looks like it could be a prolonged dispute. What's next?
