DumbPuck Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 You fools and your rooftops. I'll pass! It's on a corner of my house that nobody sees except my neighbor. He's a douche, so I really don't care! On my last house, it was over 30 feet to the roof. Screw that! And my wife knows to keep that bush trimmed. Spndnchz, how 'bout you? Oh my ... insert coffee .. proceed to laugh/spit on keyboard.
BuffalOhio Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 Oh my ... insert coffee .. proceed to laugh/spit on keyboard. I couldn't leave the first sentence hanging; just had to add the second!
ROCBuffalo Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 If anyone in Rochester is looking to watch the game since TW sucks A$$ and MSG could be greedy, bunuch of us go to Shooters in Fairport. Get the sound and everything.

ROC_exEMT Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 Off the DirectTV website: "For just $5.99 a month, the DIRECTV PROTECTION PLAN gives you the ultimate in professional technical services for all your DIRECTV® equipment. Get 24-hour technical support; in-home service calls; coverage for the cost of replacing defective equipment, including remotes, wiring, satellite antenna, connections/switches and more; power-surge-related repairs; and dish antenna realignments. Peace of mind has never been so affordable." Looks like realignments are covered. Question is how fast do they get out there to do it? And why would they even offer this separately? I can understand for those who had to purchase their equipment but why make this an ala-carte choice? Why would anyone NOT want this protection for $6.00/month???
Weave Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 Sounds like a little more investigating is in order. What do they charge you to come out and realign the dish? It is a service call handled by contractors. If I remember correctly it was about $60/hr. He was at the house for about 1.5 hrs from setup to out of the driveway.

I dont know if this is common or not but my free maintanence from my local dealere includes free remote replacement if need be just walk in and get a replacement. They use their own employees no subs. That makes the install more important to them because they dont want to come back as thats where they lose money.

It is starting to sound more reasonable isn't it. I am not one who generally buys extended warranties. Odds are that anything you buy will work as long as the warranty. I have been lucky so far, but this wind thing has me wondering...

wallybarthman Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 Honestly, for aligning your dish - you can do it yourself. You get a friend to watch the signal levels on the 101 satellite (not as complicated as it might sound) and stop when they peak - then tighten the dish up.
Guest Sloth Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 Technology blows. One of the FEW reasons I'm glad I'm not in B-Lo, is TW's latest bullshiit. To my understanding, MSG is not trying to make more money, just trying to make the same as everyone else. TW is going to take a hit when B-Lo, NY and NJ hockey fans ditch their product. I loved it when Black said he himself was ditching TW.

I think MSG are the greedy ones and the greed is coming from TWC stealing the Lakers away when they made their own channel in LA. Now, MSG wants to make bank on the NYR/NYK while the Sabres are stuck in the middle of a major East coast/West coast war.
Taro T Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 Honestly, for aligning your dish - you can do it yourself. You get a friend to watch the signal levels on the 101 satellite (not as complicated as it might sound) and stop when they peak - then tighten the dish up. You don't even have to mess around with it if after they set it up, you use a Sharpie and mark exactly where both alignment marks are. Then, after the wind messes up your settings, you move it back to where it was previously. Provided none of the mounting posts were deflected, you will have the same quality signal you had when you 1st got satellite. But you are primarily correct, if you have a friend with a cell phone you can reset the dish back to where it was previously, or possibly even better. But you'll want to check more than just the 101 if you want all your locals to show up at full strength. (So do I now get the $100 sign up bonus that everyone else is trying to Jones?)

kishoph Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 Doesn't MSG also want to force TWC to carry some crappy music channel that no one has heard of? Nobody's heard of it or watches it, because TW charges to get it.
stenbaro Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 I just got my startup bundle price from Time Warner that I started with 2 yrs ago due to the dropping of MSG...I researched the service I wanted with Verizon and compared it to what I was paying Time Warner I was one klik away from ordering Fios and I called up TIme Warner and they really went out of theyre way to keep Me....I went from 197 per month down to 123 guaranteed for one year. We switched from Verizon Fios 2 yrs ago to Time Warner and we couldnt have been happier. The customer service we recieved from Time Warner is head and shoulders above Verizon...I will miss watching the Sabres for awhile but it wont be forever...

beerme1 Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 I called up TIme Warner and they really went out of theyre way to keep Me I will miss watching the Sabres for awhile but it wont be forever... I called to cancel my tv only and there was no pushback in the least. I asked the rep if she was in Cheektowaga and she said no shes not in NYS. She did ask why i want to cancel and I said well losing MSG was the final straw for me. She said oh theres a lot of that right now but they are still negotiating. MSG may very well become NFL Network on TW which is now 8 years missing. How long is forever to you? I guess the 2018/2019 season when Pegula has his own station up and running and the contract with MSG is over with?

I've not needed it once so I've saved.. $144. I suppose that's why. You can always add the protection to your account. I had a problem once with the HD-DVR and when I called they asked me to add the protection. I did, they scheduled a service call. I ended up fixing the issue myself (a wire had come loose somewhere in the chain). I then killed the service plan (a $10 fee to do so) and I stopped paying. So.. if you can add it when you need it why bother paying when you don't? Now, I'm not saying you'll always be able to add it.. I just know I could.

Bundled/screwed, and just the opposite, TW could care less what I do after numerious polite conversations, meanwhile TW continues to advertise prices/bundles that are not available in my area. For less then $6 a month on XS I get all my Bills/Sabres (including blackouts) along with a variety of other sports events and in many instances feeds of better quality then my TW cable channels.
SportsFan88 Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 Doesn't MSG also want to force TWC to carry some crappy music channel that no one has heard of? I've heard of it/ It used to be on my regular cable years ago. Now it's on Digital Cable somewhere... Hmmm. How many times has this happened in how many years of ownership? Would this be covered under their maintenance plan? No way am I climbing 40' up to adjust a dish even if I had a 40' extension ladder, which I don't. I'm worth more alive than dead, and I'd be dead if I tried because my wife would kill me. Honestly, the thought of looking at that dish all the time bothers the hell out of me. They would like to put it on a more gently sloped section of roof directly above my back deck - the roof line starts 12 or 13' above the deck, but the dish would be in plain site from just about anywhere on the deck. It either goes above the deck or it goes on a much higher section of roof that is 30' + off the ground due to high ceilings and walk out basement on back side of house. Nobody in Elmira/Chemung County is worth that much, come on man. Lol

Figster Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 What is XS? Online site that shows nascar, football, hockey, UFC and a variety of other sports related programs. Bills/Sabres telecasts are a couple of XS's main attractions.XS also provides online proffesional Tech support. XS does require a small donation/fee, I paid $17 for 3 months. Best quality streaming on the net in my opinion.(High quality feed is a must to watch Hockey) PM me, Kishop, PTR among others If anyone's interested.
