Miller30 Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 That doesn't mean everything on there is BS. I use wikipedia all the time. Didn’t mean to infer that everything that comes up on Wikipedia is BS. I use it all the time too. But it’s definitely not the end all be all of information – Wikipedia is free and written collaboratively by the people that use it be they “experts” or not. I guess my point really was if on the internet it must be true
Sabre Dance Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 Frankly, I don't know which of the two (MSG and TWC) is more at fault and I don't care. I need high-speed internet access as I sometimes work from home (and I need the package discount) so DirecTV is out for me. I have some issues with Verizon which precludes me from switching to FiOS. So, I am on the outside looking in as far as Sabres' games are concerned. The thing is, MSG has already lost Dish Network and TWC as carriers in WNY. I know their deals with the other two providers run for a couple of years yet, but what happens then? If DirecTV thinks that MSG's fees are too high, do they balk leaving just FiOS? It seems to me that MSG (and maybe TWC as well) are cutting of their noses to spite their face. Also, seeing that the Sabres inked the deal with MSG, you'd think that the new owner of the team would be holding their feet to the fire to play nice with TWC. It can't be a good thing when an S-load of homes in WNY no longer get to see your new team's games. Oh, well...
TheFunPolice Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 I did consider switching providers but then I realized that the same thing will probably just happen with Direct TV in a year or two the level of greed is amazing... TW is especially bad.... They seem to have issues constantly with networks... STILL no NFL network, and it is even on Charter (still my vote for the WORST cable company I have EVER had)
LabattBlue Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 I'd love to know if the number of TWC subscribers banging on the door of Verizon and DirecTV has dropped off significantly? Honestly, If the Sabres were riding high, I would have considered switching to DirectTV(I can't get FiOS). Now...who cares! TW is especially bad.... STILL no NFL network, and it is even on Charter (still my vote for the WORST cable company I have EVER had) I am so puzzled by the lack of a deal between TWC and the NFL Network(It has been 8 years). Wouldn't you think that Goddell would be really pissed off that his league's network can't be seen by the majority of NYC residents...especially considering that league headquarters are in NYC. I would think they would practically be giving away the channel in order to get viewing numbers up.
SportsFan88 Posted January 20, 2012 Report Posted January 20, 2012 Was watching CNN this morning and apparently Crime Warner supports PIPA

SwampD Posted January 21, 2012 Report Posted January 21, 2012 I know TWC has a big presence in NYC, but I thought Cablevision was as big (if not bigger). They really do. They have us all believing that 3 inches of snow is the end of the world,.. oh,.. I thought you meant The Weather Channel.

Eleven Posted January 21, 2012 Report Posted January 21, 2012 I have Road Runner through Time Warner and Directv. Is this not an option for you? Not if SabreDance really needs the package discount. I'm considering DTV now, since getting rid of TV service isn't an option due to CenterIce (delivered via iPad) blackouts. My local just got DTV, and the slimline boxes are so much nicer than the PC-sized boxes that TWC gives us. My concern: What happens when MSG's contract with DTV is up? Or when the Sabres dissociate from MSG, as Black has hinted he wants to do? I might have to switch back at that point.

My guess is when the contract is up DirecTV will whine and complain about MSG's rates, but will ultimately get a deal done because part of their marketing is being the best option for sports fans. As far as from when the Sabres leave MSG...just switch to whatever. Even if you're in a contract, cable companies often run deals to pay your early termination fee. A friend of mine switches between DTV and TW every year and is continually saving money on introductory rates because of it.
spndnchz Posted January 25, 2012 Report Posted January 25, 2012 Fios getting installed today. :D But I have to wait a week to see a game.

Wasn't the dispute that TWC wanted to make NFL network part of a specialty sports package that people would have to pay more for rather than part of the basic package. I'm sure money is a big portion of this as well, but it seems that if NBA & MLB networks are on the basic this shouldn't be an issue anymore.

The NFL channel was certainly an issue with Comcast a few years ago. Comcast put it into the Sports package and the NFL wasn't happy. I'm not sure if TWC did the same thing.
LabattBlue Posted February 7, 2012 Report Posted February 7, 2012 Why is this still going on? Not that there isn't blame to be shared by both parties, but why is TWC reporting that MSG wants a 53% increase, and MSG repeatedly comes back with "no comment". I have seen this reported over and over again. I'm beginning to believe I won't see hockey again on MSG this season. PS What happened to the politicians that were going to step in and get this resolved?
CallawaySabres Posted February 7, 2012 Report Posted February 7, 2012 This is just the icing on the cake that is the worst Sabres season I can remember in over 20 years......Can't watch games, selling tickets and Roy is still on the team. Actually, after selling two Canadians games coming up, I just bought a brand new snowboard so all is not lost. Not sure taking up snowboarding at 41 is so smart but what the Hell, I'm addicted.

PS What happened to the politicians that were going to step in and get this resolved? Why did the Sabres use an incompetent law firm to negotiate that contract with MSG? Dear Terry: Someone needs to ask the legal brain trust why , after MSG arbitrarily decided to shut down two thirds of the Sabres television fan base, the contract the law firm in question negotiated with MSG, on behalf of the Sabres, was not breached. A first year law student would have inserted fifty provisions into the contract that would have anticipated this circumstance and given the Sabres other broadcast options. No sane person I know, would voluntarily chose to do business with the Dolan brothers .They are to be avoided by like the plague

I am just commenting that things have been awful quiet on that front.
waldo Posted February 7, 2012 Report Posted February 7, 2012 Paging Larry Quinn... Exactly! if he was my number two and responsable for the contract negotiations ,he would be heading the scouting effort now..
LabattBlue Posted February 10, 2012 Report Posted February 10, 2012 If this was discussed previously, I apologize in advance... My expectations of the Sabres making the playoffs are still very low, but IF miracles do happen, and this dispute is not resolved by then, will the playoff games not be shown on TWC?

Doesn't NBC have the rights to NHL playoffs games? So, they should be on NBC and NBC Sports (formerly Vs), just as the current NBC Sports games are still played on TW.
