LabattBlue Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 Game thoughts... - Another lame forgettable game. - If Stafford-Roy-Boyes were all left behind, and never put on a Sabres uniform again, it would be an improvement. - The "energy" line of Gaustad-Kaleta-McCormick should all sit in the press box next game and have a 4th line of Whitmore-Szcfskfsf-Foligno in their place for Fridays game. - What happened to the physical play of Kassian and McNabb? Lindy was even quoted during Kassian's first few games that he needed to be more physical. Now they look like every other Sabre...no consistent physical play. - You know the "he had no chance goals" that were scored on Miller. I would expect my goalie to turn those "no chance goals" into "great saves" during the game. That is why he is being paid 6+ mil a year. - Did NJ even have to break a sweat. The Sabres could not have made it any easier on them.
87168 Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 Miller had little to do and very few tough saves. He is well paid and a huge part of this teams untouchable core, the standard need to be a little bit higher. They traded him to Detroit for Slava Kozlov. Yet again people want to place the blame on Miller for this lose. We scored one goal and you're bashing Miller's performance.
kishoph Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 You just described a Lindy Ruff coached team. Four minutes to go, down by 2 goals, coming back from a television timeout and he has Ellis on the ice and Vanek on the bench.
deluca67 Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 Yet again people want to place the blame on Miller for this lose. We scored one goal and you're bashing Miller's performance. Miller's performance has nothing to do with how many goals the offense scored. It was a run of the Mill(er) performance. A couple of nice saves, a couple of goals that should not have been and a lot of wondering what the Sabres are spending over $6 million per year on.
Figster Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 ummm how many games have you seen where 1 goal wins it? Very few. Miller's performance should not be the topic of discussion, but rather or horrid offense. Game of momentum, going down 3-0 is a hard mountain to climb, but I agree,
Iron Crotch Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 ummm how many games have you seen where 1 goal wins it? Very few. Miller's performance should not be the topic of discussion, but rather or horrid offense. I have to agree with this general point-of-view. In most GDT threads, after a loss we spend an inordinate amount of time dissecting which player(s) cost us the goals that were scored against us... but we tend not to focus on which forwards passed when they should have shot or put the puck right into the goalie's midsection rather than hitting a corner.... either way, we have a max payroll and are now 22nd in the NHL in points. Something must give. I want to be patient, but...

I still feel as so though something big will happen to kick start this team into being a true contender.
Figster Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 oh most definitely. I've had it with this team. I still feel as so though something big will happen to kick start this team into being a true contender. Tyler Myers big perhaps
87168 Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 Tyler Myers big perhaps haha well I was hoping along the lines of an organization shake up or ball tingling trade ahahaha
Sabel79 Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 Eric Boulton has to be my second least-favorite ex-Sabre of all time (Doug Gilmour is number one for not entirely rational reasons, but seriously, screw that guy)... It was previously remarked upon that it is incredible that he is still in the league. I find it incredible that he ever made it at all, and I should know, I have an account on a message board... but come on, he's god-awful, and never even fought enough to justify his presence on an NHL roster... I've given it long and careful thought, and have decided that if Lindy were to be fired before the end of this season, it would encourage some of the lollygagging losers on this team even further (see: Capitals, Washington). Perhaps a shakeup roster-wise (like finding an actual center to play w/ Vanek and P-ville) before too much longer if possible, followed by major surgery / coaching-hockey department putsch in the off season if that doesn't work... and I fear it won't.
DR HOLLIDAY Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 Would rather watch the world Jr's then any regular season NHL game.......
fiftyone Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 Miller's performance has nothing to do with how many goals the offense scored. It was a run of the Mill(er) performance. A couple of nice saves, a couple of goals that should not have been and a lot of wondering what the Sabres are spending over $6 million per year on. If you judge performance with the amount a player earns in mind, why aren't you putting equal blame on Vanek for not scoring 4 goals and leading the Sabres to victory? Miller could have played a "6 million dollar game" and the Sabres still would have lost tonight.
itbeatswalking Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 Stafford, Roy, regehr, miller. They need to go now. Stafford and Roy for having no heart in their games and regehr just can't keep up, he was the reason the first 2 goals against happened, and miller is average if that, and for the amount of money he gets, that's not good enough.

I would remove miller and regehr from that trading list. Really like regehr's game and I don't think we would get what we deserve if we traded miller. I would add sekera and boyes instead.
neverenough Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 I just want someone to get fired or moved! This will always be the same play hard 2 out of 10 game team. Its old, very old!
Kristian Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 Another Lindy Special. Rinse, lather, repeat.

Miller could have played a "6 million dollar game" and the Sabres still would have lost tonight. It would be hard to place blame on Vanek when he is the only player that shows a consistent effort and continually creates offensive chances. I look at Vanek and think how can this front office continue to ignore his talent and provide him some help. You're just not going to get the most out of Vanek by placing Hecht as his center. I would love to see Miller play a "6 million dollar game", it has been a long time..

I would love to see Miller play a "6 million dollar game", it has been a long time.. Miller was never a 6 mill. dollar goalie. That said, I think he would still be a good enough goalie to win a cup, with a team that gives a damn in front of him, a different coach and a different GM to put the pieces together. The greatest goalie of all time, in his prime, couldn't win a cup for Lindy Ruff, and Miller is no way NEAR Dom's level.
deluca67 Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 Another Lindy Special. Rinse, lather, repeat. It has come to a point where all you can do is shake your head and shrug. The Lindy Specials are coming more frequently and Pegula appears not to care. If he did a change would be made. That is 100% correct.
Robviously Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 Add Sekera to the injury thread :death: I wish we could add Gaustad to the ex-Sabres thread. Sekera gets run, McCormick goes after the guy, Kaleta ends up in a headlock, and Gaustad......is sorta just around. What would it take for this guy to actually drop the gloves when one of his teammates gets run? His specialty, maybe the only thing he's good at in the NHL, is doing the absolute minimum when it's time for a physical confrontation. It's embarrassing. It's worth repeating: Gaustad isn't tough, he's just sorta tall.
Eric in Akron Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 Didn't see the game and it sounds like I made a good choice. Looking through the game stats, how could the Sabres only muster 6 shots in the 3rd when they were down by 2 goals? Was there a lot of missed shots? Was there any extraordinary effort to work and throw pucks at the net? Was NJ that good at clogging everything and just controlled the game?
2ForTripping Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 So glad my daughter & I watched Gnomeo & Juliet instead of the game
dEnnis the Menace Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 Didn't see the game and it sounds like I made a good choice. Looking through the game stats, how could the Sabres only muster 6 shots in the 3rd when they were down by 2 goals? Was there a lot of missed shots? Was there any extraordinary effort to work and throw pucks at the net? Was NJ that good at clogging everything and just controlled the game? we just wouldn't shoot the darn puck! and when we did, it didn't count as a shot because it was high and wide, or blocked in front by a skate or stick because as someone said earlier, we are retarded when it comes to shooting. :wallbash: And itbeatswalking: Regehr is no where the problem list. He goes up against the top talent night after night and delivers most of the time. He has one bad game and you are calling him out? how about the fact that he leads the team in blocked shots and hits by a large margin?! He isn't the problem, but 4 or 5 of our other defensemen are. You're crazy thinking Regehr is the issue. Yeah sure, he didn't get everything on the attempt to block the shot, and he turned the puck over on the second goal. On the second goal, if Sekera would have been where he was supposed to be, the pass is on his stick and not the Devil's player's stick. Just saying. This team needs something to spark it. There is no emotion, no desperation. They are just going thru the motions. They are sloppy when it comes to puck handling and possession, and they glide thru the neutral zone. My sister watched the game with me last night, and after a while told me that it was the most boring game she's watched in a while, and that even if Vanek carried them all night and tied it up, they didn't deserve to win. She was 100% correct!
waldo Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 I would remove miller and regehr from that trading list. Really like regehr's game and I don't think we would get what we deserve if we traded miller. I would add sekera and boyes instead. I agree, He is the Sabre's best defenseman, hands down, even with all of his defects, real or imagined. Get him a top ten defender to play the other side and they will take the leaque apart. (Myers does not fill that requirement)
Figster Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 Its possible the whole team from Lindy on down is just wound up to tight.(lot of expectations) We are all calling it lack of effort, but when you watch the games its almost like they are scrambling to hard sometimes instead of taking enough time to make the right play. Maybe Ruff just needs to get his team to settle down...
