dEnnis the Menace Posted December 27, 2011 Report Posted December 27, 2011 front page of sabrespace this AM implied sekera and a forward to Colorado Is there a headline the rest of us missed? On a side note, The Hockey Heaven Facebook page reported that there were scouts from 15 different teams at the game last night. I was under the impression that that isn't out of the ordinary. EDIT: I read more into the Hockey Heaven FB page, and the first comment on the status of the 15 scouts was that HockeyBuzz reported Sekera and a forward to Colorado, not SS. Take it with a grain of salt. and I answered my own question with some research, yeah, there are a number of scouts from a number of teams on any given night. means nothing.
HopefulFuture Posted December 27, 2011 Report Posted December 27, 2011 So, Eklund is reporting Sekera and a forward to Colorado on Hockey Heaven's FB page because the guy down at the Wilson Farm's drinking the Colt 45 tall boys told the OP of this thread he knew a guy close to the Sabres that gave him information on Miller going to Anaheim and in the mean time, there is unconfirmed reports that Stafford has cut back on band practices in order to focus on his second job? Wow, what a day in Sabreland!

bills_fan_in_raleigh Posted December 27, 2011 Report Posted December 27, 2011 Sorry I read it on Hockey Heaven but thought it was on SS front page.
thesportsbuff Posted December 27, 2011 Report Posted December 27, 2011 I love lamp. Do you really love the lamp, or are you just saying that because you saw it?

Bmwolf21 Posted December 28, 2011 Report Posted December 28, 2011 So, Eklund That's where I stopped reading. (To be fair I went back and re-read the post. Pretty funny.) I love lamp. Brick is hilarious.
MattPie Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 E5: A Buffalo Sabres forum thread about Miller for Getzlaf has been really active, Miller (may be) looking to play closer to his wife.

nfreeman Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 I know I'm just an amateur, but doesn't it seem like DR has to do something? I don't think DR really thinks his job is secure no matter what happens, does he? I.e. doesn't he think that if the team continues on this pace and ends up #12 in the EC this year, he'll get canned? I guess I think DR wants to see how the team looks when Myers gets back, which sounds like it will be in the next week or so. Inconsistent or not, Myers is probably the best player on the team. So, I guess I think that if Myers gets back on, say, January 7, and the team still looks lousy on, say, January 20, DR will make a trade or 2. So I guess I think we're looking at another 3 weeks of this unbearable mediocrity without any action -- because at this point I don't see this group turning it around without any changes.

I think Darcy feels that the only thing wrong with this team is that they have been hit with alot of injuries recently and once guys come back, they will be fine and climb the standings. Unfortunatly, for him, he might be the only one that actually thinks this way and he doesn't want to make a move to get rid of one of "his guys" cause that would admit he was not perfect and no one is willing to make a lopsided deal his way making him look like a genius again. Darcy had this offseason to show he was shackled by the rpevious regime and held back financially, so far all he has shown is that maybe the previous regime was right keeping the check book away from him. The only thing he showed this offseason is that he can spend more money on the same type players he normally acquires.

I think he got better players and overpaid just like every team does in free agency. I think you might be right about the rest though, either that or his trying to get 'that perfect deal' which only happens once in a blue moon.

I think you may very well be right about the bolded part, but at some point the results will be undeniable even to him, right? For example, if Myers and Ennis are back in 10 days or so, then the only regulars who will be out will be Leino and Sekera (and perhaps Gerbe, although it sounds like he could be back around the same time as Myers and Ennis). At that point, if they still look like an overpaid mountain of dog poop, is DR really going to believe that the absence of Leino and Sekera is what is holding the team back? Or is he going to realize that if he doesn't shake things up, this group of guys is going to cost him his job? Or does he really think that his job is safe no matter what? I guess I just have a hard time believing that (i) he's going to ride the elevator all the way to the basement with this group or (ii) that he thinks his job is safe no matter what. Here's your sign....... ??
TheChimp Posted December 30, 2011 Report Posted December 30, 2011 I can't imagine a Miller/Getzlaf trade for a host of reasons. However just to play along, Buffalo would need a goalie back and Anaheim would need a center back. Therefore it would be Miller/Roy for Getzlaf/Hiller. But as I said, I have a hard time believing that this is even possible. That would be the BEST trade for this team right now. I think Darcy feels that the only thing wrong with this team is that they have been hit with alot of injuries recently and once guys come back, they will be fine and climb the standings. You would hope so, but I get the feeling that he will have some other excuse, like it takes time to get those players back to geling with their teammates, rust, or he will pull some stat out saying that they are playing much better then they were before and continue to think that the team will just flip a switch one day and go on a run to make the playoffs again. This team needs a shakeup on the roster level, and I am talking about a big shakeup, not a Rivet type player being cut and someone from Rochester taking his place, I'm talking a big trade involving some of his bigger named "core" players (a Roy, Stafford, maybe even include opne of the better prospects to get a greater return) to show he has a pulse and that he is willing to do what it takes to turn things around. Guys are becomming to comfortable around here because they know Darcy won't move one of his "core" guys, only fringe ones (the Pailles, MacArthurs, Butlers, etc.). Although i would much prefer that they let Darcy go and bring in a new GM to do this instead

I just have a hard time believing that he thinks he's untouchable no matter how bad they play. And if he realizes that he's accountable, and if they continue to look bad, doesn't he have to make a move? I agree that a shakeup is needed. I think DR wants to see how they look when most of the lineup is back before he buys into the "shakeup is needed" view.
Sabre fan Posted December 30, 2011 Report Posted December 30, 2011 I totally agree with the thought process of Darcy, and Lindy as well, making excuses and blaming injuries for all their problems. That same old story has gone on now for far too many years. There is NO WAY we would ever get Getzlaf for Miller....your dreaming! And I do agree finding a replacement for Lindy may be the only thing that is keeping him here. Either way, it's the same old, same old until real changes are made, which may be quite awhile I 'm afraid.
