Eleven Posted December 23, 2011 Report Posted December 23, 2011 Does anyone here have it and use it? Is it possible to connect the iPad to a television and watch through the TV? And do Buffalo games get blacked out in Buffalo? I'm considering ditching cable. I don't use it for much other than hockey.
Rico7 Posted December 25, 2011 Report Posted December 25, 2011 Don't have CI for the iPad, but you can connect to your TV with a Digital AV adapter.
LaLaLaFontaine Posted December 25, 2011 Report Posted December 25, 2011 I have it and i use it. But i do not connect itto the TV. I have a PS3 for that. I am not in the Buffalo region so i do not know what games are blacked out, but ithink they described it on their homepage. And it is not possible to watch the game as whole game later. You can only watch the condensed version. On PS3 and PC this option works fine too.
vasabresfan Posted December 25, 2011 Report Posted December 25, 2011 I have it and use it. You jus need the av adapter Rico referenced. I think I paid about $40 at Target. You'll also need an HDMI cord to plug into the adapter and your tv. A word of warning though, when you use the adapter, the picture is just a little slow on the refresh rate, making it just slightly pixelated. It is not significant, but may be just enough to annoy you. The same thing does not happen when you watch it directly on the iPad, which has a great picture. The stats, the availablity of the home and away broadcast, and the condensed game replays are all very cool. Enjoy!
Tom Backyard Posted December 25, 2011 Report Posted December 25, 2011 If you are in the sabres' market, the buffalo games will be blacked out. I have center ice, and I live in Brooklyn. They black out all rangers, devils, And islander games. They will also black out any nationally televised game (VS. Or NHL network). I rarely watch games on my iPad. I usually watch them on my pc, which I run through my television. For some reason, you can only watch replays in condensed form on the iPad, which I dislike.

The cable stays, I suppose.
kooshari Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 Well, there goes that idea. The cable stays, I suppose. You could dump the cable and watch the games using a stream online w/o worrying about black-outs.
Eleven Posted December 26, 2011 Author Report Posted December 26, 2011 You could dump the cable and watch the games using a stream online w/o worrying about black-outs. I know I can watch it on my laptop that way. But I can't get a high-quality feed to a TV that way.
DaFan Posted December 28, 2011 Report Posted December 28, 2011 Well, there goes that idea. The cable stays, I suppose. Might not be an issue come Jan 1.... sorry to say
Eleven Posted December 28, 2011 Author Report Posted December 28, 2011 Might not be an issue come Jan 1.... sorry to say They'll resolve it within a week or so of the deadline, if not before. I'd like to drop cable regardless; I watch next to nothing on cable besides hockey, and if I could have replaced that via iPad, I would have.
apuszczalowski Posted December 28, 2011 Report Posted December 28, 2011 You are talking about the NHL Gamecenter Live, which is different (kind of) then Center Ice This is the one where you have access to it through your computer, Tablet (Ipad, Blackberry, etc), PS3, or other internet feed device. I have this as it was that or Centre Ice and the cable company was taking too long the night of the home opener for me to order it in time, so i went with this, liking the idea of being able to watch it from any TV. A friend of mine ordered this too, but he canceled it because he complained about the picture quality when he ran it off of his computer he connects to his TV. He complained of it being "choppy" when connecting it to a TV set. I find watching it on my computer (hooked up to a monitor) or on my Blackberry playbook (watched the last game on it), the picture quality was really good. only thing I find annoying is the commercial breaks on the home teams feed are always just still advertisements for NHL.com with bad music. Pretty good option though if you are out of the area, or usually out/away (but have internet or a tablet) when the games are on.

But the most important thing remains: If I'm in Buffalo (which I often am, considering that my house is there), are Sabres games blacked out on Gamecenter Live?
Cereal Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 Ok & thanks. But the most important thing remains: If I'm in Buffalo (which I often am, considering that my house is there), are Sabres games blacked out on Gamecenter Live? My mama always told me that Santy Claus lived at the North Pole?? A friend of mine ordered this too, but he canceled it because he complained about the picture quality when he ran it off of his computer he connects to his TV. Thanks for the good post. Do you know if it was easy to simply cancel once he realized the picture quality didn't transfer well? I was going to try to go this route either later this season (maybe they offer half-price after the all-star break or something) or next season.
Sabel79 Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 Ok & thanks. But the most important thing remains: If I'm in Buffalo (which I often am, considering that my house is there), are Sabres games blacked out on Gamecenter Live? I ditched cable and switched to Gamecenter Live, using Roku to connect to the TV in HD. Your local games, Vs., NBC, and NHL network will be blacked out (I live in Virginia so I have the "misfortune" of not watching the Caps live). GCL says that the blacked out games are unavailable for 48 hours (and are if you try it through the site), but in my experience the replays on even the blacked-out games full and condensed, are up on the roku app fairly quickly, depending on how many games there are that night, I think midnight is the latest I've waited for them to put a 7:00 game up. The picture is fairly good, a lot would depend on your internet connection... I'd give it a thumbs up, but watching no Sabre games live might be annoying...

That I am not sure about because although i live only about 25 minutes from the arena if the Bridges are clear, I am not in their broadcast area so every game is blacked out for me unless they are being nationally televised. it does allow you to watch the home or away feed for the game, and last nights game, I couldn't get the Sabres feed, only the Devils. It didn't matter cause I didn't listen to the game much (girlfriend hates having me watching the game on one device while she is also watching TV so she bought me cordless headphones for christmas that I had to charge so i couldn't use them).
apuszczalowski Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 My mama always told me that Santy Claus lived at the North Pole?? North Pole/Buffalo/Canada, according to many places further south, they believe those places are one and the same Thanks for the good post. Do you know if it was easy to simply cancel once he realized the picture quality didn't transfer well? I was going to try to go this route either later this season (maybe they offer half-price after the all-star break or something) or next season. I don't think he had a problem, but I think he canceled it right away, i don't even know if he watched a full game on it. I know there are devices that they show on the website for it (PS3, Booxee, Roku, various TVs with wi-fi, etc) Those devices hook up directly to your TV so I would think they would give you good quality. I have a Sony Blue ray player that has Wi-Fi, but it seems the Sony devices (besides PS3) only allow you to watch the Vault, which is a bunch of older games from the past. They have 2 options for the cost in Canada, its either $169 for the entire season in one lump sum, or $20.99 for 8 monthly payments. I don't think they will change the price at any time during the season, probably just pro-rate the lump sum amount, or you can only do the monthly payments for the rest of the season
