I don't even think Kadri's goal was all that soft. It was a sniper shot through a screen. We have seen a lot softer recently.

Possibly, but that save needs to be made no questions asked. That said I thought Miller had a very good game and looked very good.

Miller doesn't get paid all that money to look good for most of the game just to allow a cheap goal like that. He needs to stop that shot 100% of the time.

Agreed!

He was beat high glove side and word must be out that this is where he is most vulnerable. He seriously needs to fix this flaw if he is to ever become "elite" again.

He didn't look screened on the replay angle from behind him.

And was the second best out of two goalies.

I think it was one of those Verlander specials...again.

Miller let's in a soft game winning goal and WGR post game show is blaming Regehr's trip?

To be fair, Miller played a great game . He made numerous saves on a number of defensive zone turnovers and missed assignments that other goaltenders probably would not have gotten to. That game could have easily been 4-1 /5-1 at the end of the second. More troubling to me is their offensive impotentancy and the glaring Echl level mistakes they make in every game. (there were only a few last night, one costly, and given the fact they have what essentially is an AHL team on the ice, it is understandable) The problem is they make the same mistakes with their regulars.

Eliis played an excellent game last night.

Weber is a solid defenseman who has really never been given a fulltime chance to work out his once in a while blunders. He plays solid d takes the body and usually makes safe plays to get the puck out of his zone. If he was given the playing time Sekera has been given I bet he would have come along really well..You watch when we make a deal he is the one to be dealt and watch him go and become a fulltime solid dman playing game deciding minutes when holding a lead...Just sayin

Weber is more physical than Myers and Mags , makes half of the mistakes Myers and Mags make in the defensive zone, coughs up the puck less under a heavy forcheck than Myers and Mags and makes his out let pass decisions three light years faster than Myers. But some people here like to rag on him. If given some significant ice time in the NHL and a good teacher/mentor, he would probably be a decent third or maybe second pair defender.Just like Myers will eventually be.

It has always amazed me how people can point to one glaring mistake a player they do not like makes and miss ten just like it a player they like makes in every game.

Miller did make some great saves. Like a pitcher that pitches a great game but gives up the game winning home run late or the QB that has a great game but gives up a pick-six for the game winning score, Miller's performance last night is defined by the soft goal that ended up being the difference in the game.

My thoughts on the game:

  • Miller played amazing. He was the only reason this game didn't get crazy in the first. It's games like this that remind me of why I don't want to trade him
  • Vanek being injured hurts this team...A LOT. Definitely missed him in front of the net and on the forecheck. This team, as it stands, cannot afford to lose him for any amount of time
  • The energy that the team brought was amazing. From Goose's AMAZING hit, to McNasty leveling people just for breathing on the crease, to Regehr letting Phanuef have a few words, the team was more of what i think this board has been calling for.
  • It was nice having Kaleta back.

Overall, I think if we didn't have so many injuries, we would've won that game hands down. Thinking about it, we had minimal Vanek, and only a handful of regulars out there tonight (I'm talking Pominville, Stafford, Roy, Goose). With a mostly rookie/AHL mod squad, we were able to hold up against our division rival.

I think it just goes to show that we miss some of our regulars a lot more than we realize. Put Gerbe out there, Boyes, and Myers, and honestly, I think the tide turns in this game. It was really an entertaining game, and they battled hard. Should've won imo.

I have not watched that goal in slo mo. A lot could have happend.(was he down too soon again/was it screened/deflected?) I did watch Thomas give up a similar goal the other day but it was not improtant because his team put up five. For me this game was defined by one of the best games Miller he has played this year and the saves he made he should not have. Progress! The real problem is that you do not win a lot of games in the NHL by scoring two goals or less .

I've watched Miller let in soft goals before. That wasn't one of them. The shot wasn't screened but the release of it was, and it was a seeing-eye laser to the top corner. How many times have we seen Ovechkin score that goal and talk about what a great shot he has. I know, I know,.. more excuses. Whatever. There is plenty of fault to find with this team. Finding it where there isn't any get's old.

I could care less about the sabres effort! This team has let the fans down, the city of Buffalo down, and the man that has poured his hard earned money into this team. Nobody gets fired? Nobody gets traded?

What the hell is going on with the front office? Mr Black what do you have to say? Hockey heaven? Terry P are you on vacation?

Your failure to make any mention of their slew of injuries really blows a big hole in your rant .......just saying

I think that I'd rather see a more skilled team put out a half-assed effort and come out with the win than a less skilled, hard working team play with 60 minutes of intensity but come out with the loss. That said, I'm looking forward to getting some guys back who are less physical but help us put the puck in the net (Leino, Gerbe, Boyes, Ennis, Hecht, and now Vanek).

Vanek is the only serious loss. The other five guys have combined for a solid 14 goals in 99 games this season. We would all like to see more skill, with toughness, on the ice. The five guys you mentioned don't exactly raise that skill level noticeably.

I give Leino a pass since he is learning a new system (I give him 1/2 year to do so). The other guys for the most part haven't all been on the ice with each other. A few were in the lineup with the others missing with the exception of very early in the year (although Hecht was out early). Be nice to get them all on the ice and see what happens. That said I do agree that Vanek is our only "elite" NHL forward. He's the only guy that other teams need to game plan for. He's the guy that the other teams put out their #1 defensive pair to stop. Pommer is having a great year statistically, but I'm not sure other teams say "we need to figure out a way to stop this guy" before a game...

I'd like to see last nights effort with Vanek, Boyes, and Leino in the lineup. Leino was somewhere good playing with Kass and Adam before he got hurt. And Boyes is an NHL'er, not a minor leaguer. I think this team starts to look damned good if we can keep the effort and insert those 3 back into the lineup.

Well...... add Myers to that list too.

So Chewy, Whitmore, Tropp, Stuart, and Kassian all bring the same skill sets as Leino, Gerbe, Boyes, Ennis, and Hecht.

Somebody should let Darcy know that ASAP.

GO SABRES!!!

I've settled down from last night and here is where I stand.

The bottom line is this team consists of half AHL players. There has to be some slack given for that. They at least showed last night (and even for a majority of tuesday) that they have the heart to win games when beat up like this.

While I no longer believe this is a top 4 team in the East (that dream died a few weeks ago), I still think we're a playoff team and as we gradually start to get guys back I think that will be even more evident.

Alongside Scznfslfsflsf, I have now added Whitmore to the my list of players I'd rather see as the 12th or 13th forward instead of Ellis....

when all is well as Sabres General Hospital.
