Now, North Korea might know technological wonders like the radio, the microwave oven, and maybe even the touch-tone telephone. The verdict is still out on cable TV (deprivation might be a good thing, actually, given the content), and the Internet, however.

Oh, and books! They have spines, and the spines bind these things called "pages." On the pages are "words." The words are really cool.

Its been a really tough year for dictators........

They say that certain deaths come in threes. Former Czech Republic President Vaclav Havel died yesterday. Who's #3? (I say that with all due respect).

And the world is a better place. Hope the son has some sanity, not counting on it though.

From what little I know the son is just as, if not more so, bat s##t crazy.

The world losses one more great form of entertainment in his death though. Despite that I won't be exactly mourning his passing.

I fail to see any problem.

I decided to dig around that site and I'm glad I did. There's a thread on there that is a fascinating read on the way tourism is handled in NK and how one guy gets around it. http://www.pyongyangtrafficgirls.com/t224-more-ptg-photos-from-ray-cunningham-dprk-trip-august-2010

His flickr account is outstanding. Photos from NK, the Soviet Union, China, Yugoslavia, and within the US as well. Well worth perusing. http://www.flickr.com/photos/zaruka/sets/

I know of an interesting series of videos on North Korea. Go to youtube and search "Vice-guide to North Korea". Pretty fascinating, incredible, but very sad stuff. Wouldn't get my hopes up on any change there. People are brainwashed beyond repair.

There was a YouTube channel that was used to promote North Korean propaganda a while back named Songunblog. However, for some reason or another, the account was banned. IDK why, because some of us thought that it was quite hilarious that someone wanted their stuff to be taken seriously, yet we were all laughing at him. (I even posted a video of his on here purely for entertainment purposes, and some of you who saw it were having a field day. :D )

That's unfortunate, I'd like to see some of those. The official statements that are prepared and read on the state news service are comical with all the rhetoric.

Well, there's no doubt that these people are oppressed beyond our imagination; however, if this year has taught us anything, its that people can make a change. Libya was run by an oppressive dictator for 40 years. He ended the year sodomized by a knife and with a bullet hole for all to see on youtube. I'm sure that there's a sizable percentage of North Koreans who are waiting for change. All it takes is a small vocal group to get things started. Yes, they're brainwashed, but its definitely not out of the question for major change to happen.
