As to the rules, I thought if it went through the blue crease icing was waved off.

Does this change with no goalie in the net? The crease is the goaltender's area, so while he is not required to play it outside of the crease, it is assumed that he can/should play it if it goes through the crease. With no goaltender, that assumption would not be valid. Just guessing and feeling too lazy to look it up.

Interesting photo! the frame where Kassian steals the puck and notices Vanek open on the weak side. He looks like a kid discovering the presents under the tree at 5am on Christmas morning.Eyes like saucers. It is good to be that big and still a kid.

Photo! Where?

Are you sure about this? I'm not seeing Roy as a defensive whiz....and his propensity for taking crappy penalties is really starting to wear me out .....

Whether I'm right or not is for others to debate, but in my mind I am sure. Roy plays great defense and it's very understated. It happens often when we'll be chasing our own tail in our zone and Roy will just come in, get the puck, and make the right pass to start out of the zone.

Oh, and I almost forgot, the quote of the night

RJ- "Put the kids to bed, this is ugly!"

Miller mentioned something in the postgame about some of his best friends in hockey wearing the blue and white. Anyone know who he is talking about, besides maybe Connolly?

I said the same thing to the person I was watching the game with. Growing up I was always told that if the player gets a shot on goal, it can't be a penalty shot. As for the icing, I was always told that if it went through the crease, no icing?

I thought the same thing too about the penalty shot. Wasn't sure so I looked it up.

From NHL.com:

(iii)  The player in possession and control (or, in the judgment of the Referee, clearly would have obtained possession and control of the puck) must have been denied a reasonable chance to score (the fact that he got a shot off does not automatically eliminate this play from the penalty shot consideration criteria. If the foul was from behind and he was denied a “more” reasonable scoring opportunity due to the foul, then the penalty shot should be awarded);

I think we have to keep things in context when it comes to Roy. He may not be the perfect player, or even the player that everyone wants him to be, but I'm fairly confident in saying that just about every team in the league would take him at 4 million a year. Darcy may have made mistakes with some other signings regarding money, but he made a very good deal in getting Roy for that number in my opinion.

"We"? No. Please, speak for yourself. One good game and everything does not need to be viewed from a new perspective. This game was a pain-relief, an antidote, a stress-reliever, a moment of light in the dark valley, and it alone does not mean all of the reality we saw prior to should be tossed aside and "reconsidered."

No. Fans have done that too long for this team. This is the cycle we, as fans, must break. Roy is among the worst of players to have on this roster. This win does not change that. I remind you of the Sabres record after he went down last year: 28-11-6. This team MUST go through a significant roster shake-up if it intends to win the Cup within 3 years.

If Roy is so valuable - trade him and get something good back, a piece the Sabres really need now, not Roy.

Is it too soon to anoint Kassian and Mcnabb as two new members of the 'New Core', joining Myers?

Love the "New Core" appellation. Those two, plus Adam, minus MAGs. They look much better than "Ye Olde Kore".

The play Erhoff made on his own glove pass was one of the best/smartest plays I have seen any player make in a long time.

Yup. He was by the bench before he zoomed in; I wonder if someone on the bench yelled for him to go after it. Regardless, a unique play which I bet we'll see more of now.

-As much as Roy frustrates all of us, his defense is really good.

#9? Derek Roy? His D is worse than his play up front. I recognize that he hustles back, and he can strip a puck, and is generally a positive in his role as a back-checker. But that doesn't give him any more brownie points, to me, at least. He's out of brownies.

Sorry, I don't mean to go on. Actually, I had several more lines of text in the last paragraph, but I know the point has been made. :censored:

I definitely prefer an exciting Sabres win to a boring Sabres loss!

Great to see a strong effort tonight, solid throughout despite some uncomfortable moments late.

I'm starting to think all the injuries might be a blessing in disguise, having Kassian called up is exactly what this team needs. I'm hoping he keeps getting plenty of minutes. As reluctant as I am to break up Pomminstein and Vanek, the idea of Kassian and Vanek together with one of our big centers is intriguing.

Fantastic goals by Vanek today, and a great shot by Ennis! I would love to see Ennis take more shots and hopefully this will get him to expand his game.

On the back end Ehrhoff just keeps getting better. Seems he is adjusting well to being our #1 defenseman.

Finally, I am really happy to have Weber back!

Now let's make it two in a row tomorrow!

The timing of my post may have been bad, but today's game didn't change my position on Roy at all. If I had said that same thing yesterday, it would still be true that centers that play the PP, PK, and put up nearly a point per game (the start of this year excluded) don't come around at 4 million very often.

I do think he could be valued in the trade market, but again I think that the "bang for your buck" factor could keep him here.

Part of the allure of Pegulaville is that there is no need for a "bang for your buck" acquiescence. Here, we are told, we need only to worry about victory. Multiple victories.

You do not win multiple victories by being mindful of your piggy bank. A great artist does not compromise on his tools. There are more important things to worry about than money, and that would be victory and how to achieve it. You do not attempt to conquer your foes without having enough resources, so much so that resources are not a concern.

There should be no compromises. There should be only...victory.

Pegula doesn't trump the cap. Bang for your buck is just as important when you're up against it.

A "cap" means nothing to the agile chess player.

While the Sabres may not have a shortage of cash, they still need to worry about the cap. I still think it is important to look for good returns versus cap hit.

I'd just like to see some evidence of it before I believe that the majority of travelling leafs fans are tits.

...and if they are indeed tits I'm getting Leaf season tickets.

I've been mostly absent for the better part of a month (travelling overseas for work). So I apologize for needing to catch up on a few things, I vow to read through some threads today. But, after watching last nights game, I have a very urgent question:

Does Kassian come up with the puck every single time he goes to the boards, or is it only like 90-95%?

Agree 100%

I would also think "bang for your buck" is even more important when you have many more bucks to bang.

This is exactly why dear hunting season should be extended. With no more natural predators, they are a danger on the roads, and destroy our gardens.

Well, come on into town the next time Toronto plays here, I guess!

Basically, yeah. As far as I'm concerned, Kassian has hit "untouchable" status -- no way he can be sent down, or included in any sort of trade. I don't remember the last time Buffalo had a player who could dominate the boards like that, he is such a useful proponent for this roster. He was incredible last night, NOBODY could separate the puck from him..

This mirrors my thoughts exactly as I watched Kassian last night. While this team is still in desperate need of a shake up, in no way shape or form can Kassian be included in those discussions.
