Great episode again tonight.

Loved the line, "Atta boy, Hartsie. F*ck 'em right!"

And I gotta say, I'm really beginning to like Torts a whole lot.

That's ok, right?

GO SABRES!!!

The whole series has been great again. One of my favorite lines was from Jagr, BSing with Giroux in the MSG locker room before the Philly-Rangers game: "It's hard to score 4 points here. I've done it."

One of these years I have to give in and get HBO. I know I've missed out on some great original programming, but spending another $15 a month(or whatever HBO costs) on top of my $130-140 cable bill just doesn't sit well with me.

Other than sports, I don't watch much TV, but most of what I watch is HBO original programming. Not all of it is great, but quite a bit of it is.

I would consider each of the following shows as "great" -- i.e. up there with the all-time greatest movies. They made/make the cost worthwhile for me (and in many cases my wife):

The Sopranos

Deadwood

The Wire

Curb Your Enthusiasm

Game of Thrones

24/7

Band of Brothers

The Pacific

In addition, there are a number of shows that I would consider "really good" -- i.e. as good or better than just about anything else on TV and well worth watching:

Entourage

Sex and the City

Treme

Boardwalk Empire

Also, how is your cable bill that high without HBO?

As much as I hate the Flyers, and have really hated him up to this point, now I really like Hartnell. He's a hardnosed goal scorer who will knock your head off. Just what Kassian needs to become. He also seems to be a really great guy off the ice and a great team mate.

cable, dvr, internet & sports tier. Unless I am mixing it up with my verizon wireless bill(3 phones with family talk and 1 data plan) which is equally disgusting.

We agree on this!

HBO is great stuff.....comedy specials, Boxing, documentaries.....all stuff I like on top of the original programing.

If you want to enter the racing world, Luck starts next month. I watched the pilot for it and I think they do a good job of putting it all out there without too much confusion for a novice. Plenty of characters to develop.

I saw the Luck pilot too and thought it was excellent.

This show was fantastic. Thanks for the link Chz.

I've watched the whole series so far and it seems to reinforce what I already knew: the Sabres aren't good enough. Both of the teams on the show display more grit, determination and toughness than the Sabres. I hope that changes or else it will be another lost year.

What, no love for "Flight of the Conchords?"

HBO has brought some of the best programming in TV history. I was pissed Deadwood got such a short run. Pure Shakesperean dialogue. Even with all the profanity.

Best show on TV nowadays goes to "Breaking Bad" on AMC. That show would do HBO proud.

That was a bummer about Deadwood. And I agree about "Breaking Bad." This past season was terrific. I might give "Mad Men" a slight edge though (I enjoy a bit of comic relief now and then, which you never get in "Breaking Bad"), but it's very close.

Just wanna throw in a mention of "Rome", one of my favorite HBO shows ever. Also, Six Feet Under was very, very good.

To echo what someone else said above, watching 24/7 is actually pretty depressing as a Sabres fan, as it sure seems from the outside that our team lacks many of the positive qualities of both of those teams. :(

Got half way through the first episode then had to shut it down. #smh

"Rome" was pretty entertaining. I'd probably put it in the "really good" tier with Boardwalk Empire, but that's just MHO. (BTW, I met the actor who played one of the two main guys -- not the tall killing machine but his buddy who became a senator -- at the premiere of "Lightning Thief" in NYC, which I took my son and some of his buddies to. He was a pretty nice guy.)

I never got into "Six Feet Under" but I know a lot of people swore by it.

Lucius Vorenus.

I'm a Roman History geek, so I probably liked it more than most people. The creators did a stunning job of recreating the city of Rome. The sets and costumes were on par with a major Hollywood movie. Unfortunately, the expense of accomplishing this is primarily what led to its early demise, as it was one of the most expensive shows ever made. It was a successful show by normal standards, but HBO pulled the plug halfway through season 2 because the cost was too much (which I'll never fully understand, since the major sets and costumes were already paid for by then  ).

So the creators found out halfway through the second season that they only had til the end of that season to wrap the whole series up. The whole part about MarK Antony in Egypt with Cleopatra and Octavian's rise to power as the first Emperor Augustus was originally going to span the entire 3rd and 4th seasons, but had to be wrapped up in only 5 episodes. So understandably the second season suffered quite a bit as a result. What a shame, because as good as the show was it could have been SO much better.

I have a newly discovered respect and genuine like for Torts after watching this series.

"Nice check on whatever the f*ck his name is. I forget."

Rangers have the eye of the tiger this year. They are gonna be a tough out for anybody.

Last year you could see what a balanced group Pitt was and how balanced and smart Bylsma is. You could also see Washington having McPhee much like Darcy and the lack of passion in that room.

I love Tortorella. I relate to him so much. He has the guts on television to call out the opponent in film session, "Oh...the media said they worked hard....oh they gave good effort....BS...they were dead in the water." He doesn't care! I love it.

I have a new respect for Jagr. I like personalities but he is a smart guy. Giroux is one sneakily chippy SOB. On NY Rupp is just the definition of a crafty vet. You see how Torts defers to him at times?

And how about when Del Zotto got suckered? First thing he does is asks the trainer "Who stepped up for me?" Hmmmnnnnn......I wonder if Millsie was watching?

As for Philly....you think we are getting these speeches? "You take a little piss'n'vinegar into the game and go kick the sh!t out of the Penguins."

After the past 2 years you can see why NY, Philly and Pitt are the better teams and why Washington fell apart.

Agree entirely. I wish I would have seen last year's series.

Lucic/Miller was the first thing I thought of when Del Zotto asked who stood up for him after he got suckered. I knew the Sabres' lack of response to that was an embarrassment to the game of hockey in general and to the franchise in particular, but hearing a bloodied rookie from another team wondering who had his back while being attended to by the trainer, really snapped that fiasco into perspective. Lucic/Miller was the seminal moment of the season to this point and it's no wonder the team hasn't recovered from that.

Jagr is actually quite funnier than I imagined. Love it when he told the mother of his teammate (don't know who) as she was stumbling while trying to skate, "Hey, you skate just like your son." Great stuff.

And yeah, Torts' style has been a revelation to me. I can see how a team could tune him out after a while. Especially a team of younger, less mature players who don't sell out like he asks them to. But he's got his team doing all the little things right and it's infectious. I wonder if Stafford would respond to him. I doubt it but then again, Torts would cut him rather than tolerate someone who doesn't sell out. At least that's the impression I get. I wish the guy well.

Yeah, if you saw last year, you would wonder why we didn't go after Talbot. He was a lot more subdoed this year on Philly, but he is new and they have a lot of personality on that team.

I can only hope and pray Pegula and his family watched this series. I can't know for sure what is going on behind the scenes with the Sabres, but the way the Rangers and Flyers play on the ice and what is said in their rooms makes sense to me. I just can't see the same attitude coming from top down in our room. You even see the philosophy of Holmgren in Philly and how a guy like Schoenfeld is improving dirty lyrics at a team meeting when things are going wrong........do we have any of those strong personalities on this team at all? I can only go by results on the ice and what we hear in front of local media.

HBO rocks.
