And yet, I didn't define "boring" or "exciting" did I? I left that up to reader to decide what was boring or what was exciting to themselves. They define the situation in their own mind. The question presupposes nothing.

Please. I think the spirit of the question is clear and one would have to be quite argumentative to search for the set of conditions where "boring" and "entertaining" can both describe the same event to the same individual. I would think they are mutually exclusive, but I admit I haven't exhausted every conceivable possibility, since that wasn't the objective.

Oh, oh!!

I sence another warning coming on ... I better quite while I'm just a little bit behind ...

You are pretty far behind lol your post was silly but so is this thread. I feel that if any one wants to see this team lose just for entertainment is misguided and probably what a culture of losing has bred in the area. "Wow I know they lost but what a great game" That is straight out of the "Things losers say" book. I want this team to win, I dont care if its ugly, cheap, dirty, pretty, or cute. I want more points then every other team in hockey and if anyone thinks that a playoff win isnt entertaining no matter how it is played then they arent watching hockey for the same reason I am. If we win every playoff and stanley cup game 1-0 while playing trap hockey in a 1-3-1 or a 0-0-5 I could care less cuz all the excitement I need is pommers being handed the cup and my dad and I in goold ole section 320 most likely crying tears of joy.

One thought occurred to me: the "loser point" in OT can take some of the sting out of a loss. For example, if the Sabres come back from four goals down to "steal a point" by forcing then losing in OT, then it will feel better than the same scenario would feel if there weren't that extra point. The letdown would take a lot of the excitement out of the comeback if it meant that they got nothing in the end.

Of course, that only holds if, unlike SDS, you place a high value on making the playoffs and eventually battling for the Cup. If it's mostly about the game itself for you, then the point will be almost meaningless, and the excitement of the comeback will still be there.

I think you will have to be more specific ... :P

No one claimed the former. That is a gross misrepresentation of the discussion.

As far as the latter, the me be a little more blunt, since you drew 1st blood.

"Things that losers say..." Interesting phrase. I suppose that people who don't say such things are therefore "winners"? Correct? Do you really think you are a "winner" because you are willing to waste your precious moments here on earth watching millionaires play a game whether you actually enjoy it or not? Really? You think you are a "winner" because one day you might be able to buy the t-shirt that says "Buffalo Sabres Stanley Cup Champions" and can fist pump to "We are the Champions" for a few minutes with your "win at all costs" attitude from your living room sofa? Really?

"Hey Ma! Look what those filthy rich guys did! They won the Stanley Cup and they let me buy this bitchin' hat as a tribute to our winner's mentality! And you thought I would never amount to anything. Ha! pwned...."

Now, just to be clear - I too would buy the t-shirt and hat. And I would be one of the many fist-pumping and enjoying that championship moment. That, however, would never define me. My beautiful wife and kids and the life I lead do that quite well. It would be just one many enjoyable moments that comes and goes over a lifetime.

I hope someday you'll have something tangible to hang your hat on, so you don't have urge to determine whether you "won" or "lost" in life based upon people you don't even know, playing a game for the enjoyment of others.

Not their best work, but I love Queen ...

I'd rather watch an exciting win, but given the choices in the poll, I'd rather see the team put forth an effort, skate hard and lose by a goal. Plus, pretty much all of the wins this year have been boring. So have the losses.

Someone on another thread brought up the Ted Nolan "hardest working team in hockey". They certainly didn't win every game, but you knew you were going to get you money's worth in hitting, skating and scoring. THAT's what I want...

Well i feel like those that selected lose an exciting game are indeed saying the former??? How is that not the same? They would rather there team lose an exciting game than win a boring one. I feel that is the same thing. i never said that I myself judge whether I am a winner or a loser but accepting defeat in a team that you root for is not why I watch any buffalo sport. I take pride in being a Buffalo fan and represent and argue for them and their fans over other teams. I said that those accepting loses for entertainment have been bred in a buffalo mode that presents them with the inconceivable fate that these players who are paid millions of dollars are present to help the team win championships and not merely to entertain.

As to the bolded part I dont know how you feel I attacked you personally? but maybe just you being a part of that group is why you fel slighted? While I am still working on the wife and kids I can take great pride and feel like a winner with the 4 years of excellent service I have paid this country, the 16 more than I am willingly choosing to do and the 7 months I have already spent in Iraq and the 6-12 months that I will likely serve deployed in the next year or two. Hopefully when my mom sends me that championship hat I can take a picture from the desert for her and your site so that I can prove to you and her that i "amounted to something". But then again I guess that would have to depend on what you feel is "tangible". Ill hang my hat on that though. Thanks for your post though.

"only occupy the "entertainment only" category in my mind. Given that, I'd rather watch an exciting loss over a boring win any day. If it ain't entertaining, it ain't worth wasting your time on."

That is from your first post by the way.... that reads to me as exactly what I said in my post so how is that a gross misrepresentation???? What did you mean by that then?

You literally said you would rather see an exciting loss....

Scott,

No offense, but I believe this thread has run it's course.

It was a good idea and got people thinking. It seems to be getting a bit out of hand.

I'm sorry if some of my comments seemed heavy handed.

I think another good poll question would be -

Do you think the people who chose exciting loss, only did so because we know that wins aren't going to come in Buffalo so we have to justify wasting three hours of viewing every other day any way we can?

-Yes

-No

Yes - lets all get back to bashing Ruff and Regier and claiming Paille shows Ruff holds people back for the 100th time.

I'm tempted to give a +1 for that, but I don't have an unlimited amount of those and need to save them just in case.

I agree with you though so ...

For the 101st time ...

I never said that

Not you. It's what 90% of the posters are discussing in 95% of the threads. This was one of the very few threads exempt from it, and someone was suggesting it be closed.

The suggestion, by one of the prime offenders, caused me to want to stick a dull pencil in my eye. I think I need to take a break. It's the same people saying the same thing over and over and over again regardless of thread title and without regard for the fact they have said it a thousand times before.

At my age I will take any kind of consideration as "prime" that I can get.

I know what you are up to and it won't work.
