And by the way the crowd sucked last night. As well as the whole media/game/music presentation. Who plays Christopher Cross during a Sabres game? WHO?

Th crowd has sucked for the past two years and last night was no different..........

I'll agree with this sentiment. I went to the game on Friday against the Panthers and sat in the second row of the 100's right next to the penalty box. There seem to be pockets of fans that will start cheers/be loud/stay involved in the game, but at the same time the whole 200 level as well as much of the 100's in the cushy seats seem to have come straight from a librarians convention.

I don't know what it is, but after going to the playoff games, it is kind of disheartening to be the only one cheering in the entire section. Been the same way for a couple seasons now. :bag:

Familiarity breeds contempt.

Maybe I don't go to enough games to know that I shouldn't be cheering? Maybe I was raised wrong?

I meant the core of this team has remained largely unchanged over the years, therefore they are no longer exciting even when they do things that normally should be considered exciting.

That offer would have been fine in September, but you waited too long and now he's going to test free agency.

But he grew up a Sabres fan. That should count for something.

I got what you were getting at after re-reading it and IMO you are onto something. It seemed the only time I cheered loudly was when one of the new guys (McNabb, Kassian, Regher etc.) was making a hit or physical play. The old core brass just doesn't seem to inspire any sort of excitement for me.

Also, being that close it was painfully obvious how Roy and MAG shy away from contact more often than any other player on the team. They might not initiate contact the rest of the season...

Gaustad certainly has his detractors but he's a very solid NHL player. Maybe he doesn't hit, fight or score as much as we would like but he's a great 4th line center.

"Very solid" in that he's definitely not an AHLer? Agreed. He's in the right league. Unfortunately, he certainly doesn't seem like a difference-maker in the NHL. He rarely makes an impression either physically, or on the score sheet, or even with his fists. He's just sorta "there" a lot.

Agree on the "great 4th line center" note as well. A team with Gaustad on the 4th line is definitely capable of winning the Cup. A team asking for much more from him is probably asking for trouble though. The Sabres, unfortunately (again), are that team.

I used to be a big Paul Gaustad fan but now I feel like his best days as a Sabre are already over. It sucks.

There's something to this, but I still get really excited when I see Pominville and Vanek make plays. (They're the only part of our core making plays, BTW.)

It's a double-edged sword (sabre?). On the one hand, it would mean more to see us win the Cup with guys (and a coach) who have been here a long time but when things aren't working, it's tough to feel like this group is ever going to amount to anything.

2 very, very soft goals.

1 soft goal.

1 good one. (Gaborik's)

How do you see it?

2 soft goals ...agreed......even, if for the sake of argument, if you call the third goal suspect, which it was not for a number of reasons imo, it is impossible to cost a team a game in a 1-1 tie. Did you see the video of the goal we are talking about Eggs?

I am amazed that some people watch horrific defensive errors occur, like the two short handers and then place 100% of the blame on the goalie for the softie when the player gets there. Well,if Poms puts a hip on Cal at the blue line on the 2nd short handed goal or Hoff puts one on him in the lower circle , Cal does not score..Pom or Hoff did not cost the Sabres the game . Roth did? Warped logic. If the fan had ever played between the pipe they would know that sometimes when you go down your pads do not fall correctly , sometimes when you pick tomove left or right it slips etc etc etc . Pucks bend , rise, knuckle, drop, deflect and curl on their way to you. Sometime you see them somtimes not. How many softies did Roth take credit for? Funny thing about goalies ..They will tell you strait up more often than not.Had the Sbres scored twice i would not have made the statement.

I think i explained my gripe with the statement.

I saw them all, but I'm not sure which one you are referring to.

Although I generally agree with you....getting beat 5 hole on a spin....arrgh.

The other shorty, the D man played it right and took the pass, goalie always has shooter in that case even shorthanded.

Enroth had a bad night. Hopefully it is rare thing.

Hopefully... There was plenty of blame to go around in that game, as there always is when you lose.

I am sure you have noticed that both our goalies are playing without confidence right now? It happens.

If both of them have lost their way at the same time, FIRE the goaltending coach right?

One has to wonder if, just like Ruff's message seems to have gotten stale, is Corsi also being tuned out?

Sat in a friend's seats in the 200 level for a while last night. About 80% of the section didn't get up when the Sabres scored. No one but me got into the subsequent "let's go, Buffalo!" chant. I looked at the guy on my right and said, "hey, we can do this even if it's the 200 level, right?" He nodded but didn't get into it.

What's the point of even going to the game if you're going to be that joyless about it? And this wasn't with the game out of hand; this was when the Sabres scored to tie it at 1. Nor were there a lot of "suits" in the mix; it was a Saturday night, after all.

I hope never to sit in the 200 level again.

Was at Center Ice, 11 rows behind Rayzer last night and was two rows from the top on Friday night. Both sections were full of zombie-like fans, so I'm not sure the section matters much. I've sat through plenty of boring defensive games in Nashville and the crowd at those games is typically much louder. I agree with CHZ that the in-game marketing is atrocious. Nothing going on between periods. They played classical music, Christmas music, Christoper Cross... at a hockey game? I vehemently disagree with those on here who say the team doesn't need to spruce up the in-game experience with some combination of music, scoreboard video clips, in-game promotions, on ice fan competitions between periods...

Then who would open the pistachio nuts for Darcy on gamenight?

They could shift Ruff into that all important position and hire a hockey coach to coach the team.

Of course they would need a high quality GM to recognize this critical move.

Answering this type of question is what got me into Chz's doghouse ... :(

So I will remain calm ... to quote Frank Costanza ... "serenity now"!!

I think Enroth's game will settle down now. He had some worries about his GF's health recently. She's better now so he can focus again.

How do you know all this stuff.

Are you a plant by the CIA ... ;)

Does Stafford by chance also have a gf/wife with health issues? Leino? Ehrhoff? Gragnani? Ennis? Ruff? Regier? Pegula? :P

I haven't lost interest in the Sabres. I'm still watching or attending every game. However, I am tired of discussing the issues (for the most part) as they have been the same so far this season. I have not been getting excited for Sabres games either like I usually do as many of the players I like to watch are either injured ... or in a daze.

this hits the nail on the head for me.
