TheMadCap Posted December 10, 2011 Report Posted December 10, 2011 haha, Sylvester just said "they call him Chewie"...
biodork Posted December 10, 2011 Report Posted December 10, 2011 Wth, just saw the game recap on NHL on the Fly and the only thing the analyst talked about was how wonderful the Florida goal was.
fiftyone Posted December 10, 2011 Report Posted December 10, 2011 you know whats really sad? McNabb made the sabres goal happen and MAG will get a plus one for jumping off the bench... basically I am saying mags a poser.... he poses like a not ###### defender! This plus/minus argument holds no water. The chances that Gragnani jumps over the boards as a goal is being scored is just as good as every other defenseman on the team. And another player is coming off the ice every time this situation happens as well, which I'm sure has happened to Gragnani as often as it has every other defenseman this year. The point is, that isn't how he is leading the team in plus/minus. It statistically doesn't add up.
qwksndmonster Posted December 10, 2011 Report Posted December 10, 2011 I suppose I could elaborate. It sounds to me like he's saying the majority of the team is positive that they're really good, and as a result, they don't have to prove it. Which is what leads to these half-hearted efforts where they "get comfortable." If I'm a proud man, I'm convinced that anything I do well can always be done better. And that once I become better I may become great. Being content with where you are as an athlete (or as a worker) leads to being content with ones effort. Sounds to me like most of these guys are way too comfortable. I read the Sabres.com article in which they showed the whole Vanek quote. He was basically saying they need to not let up when they get a lead. Then he said the word "swagger" and everybody got confused... Vanek spricht Englisch nicht so gut.
inkman Posted December 10, 2011 Report Posted December 10, 2011 Holy crap, is MAG just Paetsch 2.0 Paetsch was 5X th player MAG, and he wasn't very good.
NowDoYouBelieve Posted December 10, 2011 Report Posted December 10, 2011 If Gragnani were truly awful (I see we're really hyperbolizing it now...5 times worse than Paetsch?) where are all the goals being scored on his patrol? The horrible giveaway against Philly notwithstanding, I feel that Grags has become something of an irrational scapegoat. For the most part, I see him playing solid fundamental defense, even if hitting isn't a big part of his game.
deluca67 Posted December 10, 2011 Report Posted December 10, 2011 You really didn't read what he was saying, but then again nothing new for you. Keep blowing that smoke.
deluca67 Posted December 10, 2011 Report Posted December 10, 2011 I thought I heard Lindy say before the game that Leopold is not 100% but they needed to get him into the lineup. Are the Sabres close to going over the cap? Are they in a position that they have to dress injured players?

Apparently its gotten to the point where they wait till later in the day to make call up official so cap hit doesn't take effect till next day. That's according to Paul Hamilton anyway.
LabattBlue Posted December 10, 2011 Report Posted December 10, 2011 Game thoughts(now 2-3 at games I have gone to) - Boring game. Everything that is wrong about NHL hockey. 16 shots in regulation. But a win! - Back to back Friday games I have attended, and the crowd was dead at both of them. The worst I've seen the arena since the lockout. So much for Hockey Heaven! - Two breakaways, two goals scored by guys the Sabres are counting on. - Not to single any forwards out because the entire team was offensively challenged, but I can't say I noticed Vanek at all. - Miller didn't have many tough saves, but a couple in the 2nd period were really nice on a shot and the subsequent rebound. - He was my whipping boy as a Sabre, and I'll be damned if I wasn't going to boo Campbell LOUDLY at least once a period when he had the puck. - The Sabres just don't forecheck well, and at the same time struggle mightily at times getting the puck out of their own zone. - Hecht and Tropp injured....WTF! - MAG with a couple of awful plays early. With Weber coming back, I just can't see Lindy giving him more of a chance to capture the #6 spot. GO SABRES!
Guest Posted December 10, 2011 Report Posted December 10, 2011 I think Connolly was more durable than Hecht....wtf is up w these guys?
spndnchz Posted December 10, 2011 Author Report Posted December 10, 2011 Why is it they won't call icing if they think the skater could have gotten there but it doesn't matter if the goalie just sits there and watches the puck drift by? Seems dumb. They will waive off icing if it slides through the blue paint but the goalie has no responsability to touch the puck. This plus/minus argument holds no water. The chances that Gragnani jumps over the boards as a goal is being scored is just as good as every other defenseman on the team. The point is, that isn't how he is leading the team in plus/minus. It statistically doesn't add up. I can remember two times he jumped on seconds before a goal and a few he just got off the ice. Prolly doesn't mean much but just sayin'.

papazoid Posted December 10, 2011 Report Posted December 10, 2011 a win is a win.... but, that was the most boring game i have ever been to. neither team was "hitting" anyone.....the crowd was silent.
dEnnis the Menace Posted December 10, 2011 Report Posted December 10, 2011 I sat in the 200s for the first time ever, and my group tried getting people to chant even the simplest LETS GO BUFFALO! and they would have nothing to do with it. Very boring game to be at though. Hopefully tonights game against the Rags is better.

At least what goals were scored were right in front of us so that was nice. Maybe people were too busy thinking about having to drive home in the snow.
nobody Posted December 10, 2011 Report Posted December 10, 2011 I'll take a boring win over an exciting loss most days. If I'm at the game I can keep myself entertained with beer, bad food and conversation. If I'm watching on TV I can keep myself entertained with good drink, good food, etc. Anyone going to not take that game if it was the deciding game for the Stanley Cup? Maybe Millbank could add that to his discussion about being a Buffalo fan or a hockey fan. Do you watch because you want your team to win or just purely for entertainment?

BuffaloSoldier2010 Posted December 10, 2011 Report Posted December 10, 2011 I was in the student section in the very back chanting all night, crowd was.decent.up there but for the most part, the rest of the arena never really caught on.
LaLaLaFontaine Posted December 10, 2011 Report Posted December 10, 2011 I saw the gametoday without knowing the result. This was aboring game! I wonder what all our talent is doing out there? Ennis and Stafford had an assist but they are not near thei potential level. And Hecht has so much bad luck. I hope the injury is not so critical. On the bright side: We won, nothing more.
