deluca67 Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 People trying to write the Bourdon hit on Gerbe off as a normal play are sick in the head. Bourdon knew exactly what he was doing and was yucking it up in the box immediately after. Gerbe was already hurting, and was one of Buffalo's only good players against them last year in the first round. He wanted to take Gerbe out and he got away with it. It was a hit that didn't need to happen. Height should not be a factor. Bourdon wanted to take out a player he never played against before that is playing for a team he never played against before?
HopefulFuture Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 Slap on the wrist. A good call. Two would be too much, nothing not enough. Agree. Any word on why Bourdan wasn't called before the man for the hit on Gerbe?
Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 Two would be too much, nothing not enough. Sounds like the title of your Lifetime Channel movie. Is it ok if Tori Spelling plays your part, or do you insist on Meriedith Baxter Birney?
thesportsbuff Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 That's about what I expected for Leino, but I can't believe the Bourdon hit wasn't looked at. Makes no sense to me.

When Jordan Tootoo is obstructed, he tends to run the goalie. When a 5 foot and change fella doesn't see a guy coming from behind, he is going to take it harder and his head hit a more precarious spot than say Gaustad who could probably catch himself or go to his knees. This play happens every game. I don't like it, but it only gets called when someone is hurt. Why don't we send these guys out in bubble wrap? Is there a rule against that?
X. Benedict Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 Bourdon wanted to take out a player he never played against before that is playing for a team he never played against before? Phantoms and Pirates play regularly. But, he intended to hit him, but probably not as hard as he did. 5 Major was the right call. The misconduct penalty an Ellis was the joke.

Or should I just give you one of these :w00t: or these :worthy: or these  and call it a day, Mr 90210.

Gerbe didn't turn his back at the last second, like the play that you're talking about happening 30-50 times a game. And it's not his responsibility know what's coming behind him. Otherwise he would have gotten the penalty for it.

The misconduct penalty an Ellis was the joke. According to the box scores, he wasn't given a 5 minute major. He was given 2 minutes for boarding, and Ellis was given 2 minutes for instigating and a 10 minute misconduct.

Didn't see it on TV, did he jump him or something to begin the fight?
spndnchz Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 You misread......I said I have seen Adam Mair make the exact same hit 30-50 times in his career as a Sabre. This is before CTE, new NHL rules, doesn't count.

I didn't see either, but it pisses me off either way. How many times is there a fight following a dirty hit that results in injury? Pretty often. How many times is the instigator penalty called? Almost never.

Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 This is before CTE, new NHL rules, doesn't count. If Jay McKee died from his MRSA...do you think players would be forced to wear a new set of pads every game? Did you know that one of the side effects from too much oxygen...say from hyperbaric chambers or nutritional suppliments, is the exact same symptoms as a concussion? You know...nasuea, dizziness, headaches...that sort of stuff. Not bringing it up because of Gerbe. Just in general.
Cereal Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=605449 Alright I'm a little curious here. How do they decide the portion of his salary that is forfeited? $4,500,000 divided by $24,324.32 is 185. Is it that the NHL season is considered to be a 185-day work year?

At a certain point, a reasonable person would ask themselves, "why does it seem that our team has a consistant amount of disproportional injuries?" Instead of making excuses, maybe own up the fact that the soft style you play and your undersized players make you a target on every night. No bubble wrap fetish. I'm more a kneehigh socks type of fella.
spndnchz Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 These hits are not just on the Sabres. There was a good 4 or 5 bad hits on Wednesday night. All types of players all various heights. I picked you for a kneepad type of guy. I'm sorry that was wrong.

Darcy won't tell you this because it goes against his plan. REINSTITUTE THE 2-LINE PASS RULE! Most of these injuries occur at high speed and with the opposition attempting to slow momentum. The red line made all players aware of their position on the ice. Guys couldn't make jailbreaks from behind their net to the opposing blueline without hesitation. Not only that, the redline acted as a natural trap, and teams had to rely on zone entry and hard work all the time. Now softies like Buffalo want to spring out of the zone and wheel and deal. Where on the ice do most of these head shots take place?

That is how many days there are from the 'official' close of training camps until the end of the regular season. (Sometimes it's 184 days long, sometimes 186, this year it appears to be 185.) Pre-season and post-season are separate beasts. Players get paid 1/185th of their NHL salary each day they are on the NHL roster (one of the regular 23 or on IR).
