Tropp looked great throwing lefts in his debut on Fight Night. I counted 7 shots that connected, about as many as the Sabres put on net in the 2nd and 3rd periods combined. :wallbash: Big win for Tropp. Kudos to Ellis for making Bourdon answer for the hit from behind. Ellis got his shots in but Bourdon got more and better shots in. Win Bourdon.
Robviously Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 Corey Tropp's fight made my heart soar. TROPPIC THUNDER!!!!!
thesportsbuff Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 Both should be unanimous. Tropp and Bourdon
billsrcursed Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 I voted the same (Tropp/Bourdon) but it's nice to see a guy like Ellis step up when a player goes down. He must have been listening during the "Post Lucic Pow-Wow" the Sabres had. Glad someone did....
carpandean Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 Good fight for Tropp; big win. At best, Ellis gets a "moral draw" (like a moral victory averaging out a loss in the fight), but definitely props for a non-fighter sticking up for a teammate in a fight that he knew he'd probably lose.

If the Sabres' 19 other skaters came even close to the attitude of Matt Ellis....damn.
Sabres Fan in NS Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 Tropp = win. Ellis = draw, but I will give him an A+ for his immediate reaction to the hit on Gerbe. The rest of the Sabres should be taking notes on Ellis's approach to the game.
dEnnis the Menace Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 Definitely a win for Tropp. I put draw for Ellis, mostly because he had the gonads to stick up for Gerbe getting hit, when he's really a non-fighter, so more or less, like carp said, a moral victory...even if he didn't connect too many times.
sabills Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 Matt Ellis is the Rudy of this team. "I wish all my players had half the heart..."
carpandean Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 Matt Ellis is the Rudy of this team. "I wish all my players had half the heart..." I don't know, given the obvious size similarity, isn't Gerbe the Rudy of this team? I do appreciate Matt Ellis' heart, too, though.

bunomatic Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 Just listen to that crowd in the Tropp fight. You rarely hear that kind of emotion during the ebb and flow of a game. Outstanding. That incident between Lucic and Miller and the lack of response was a watershed moment for this team and its fans and I think the fans have let Buffaloes management know loud and clear that we don't want a team that isn't willing or able to stand up for one another and tune in an opposing player or team when required. Toughness is a requirement to winning in a tough league. Toughness and the ability to play tough. Not one heavyweight but toughness sprinkled throughout the lineup. Our young callups appear to bring that.
inkman Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 Matt Ellis is the Rudy of this team. "I wish all my players had half the heart..." My only issue with Ellis (ok I have many) is why hasn't he done this before? Dude is two farts away from the AHL. He doesn't think he should drop his gloves a little more often? Does he think he is Mouse "I'm not here to fight" Potatoes?
FogBat Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 Clear win for Baron von Tropp. Ellis really hung in there when he should have clearly lost that fight. Nice for him to respond to the hit on Gerbe.

I heard Ray talking about how his coach came up to him at some point in juniors and was like, ok, if you want to play in the NHL full time, you will only be able to do it as a fighter, and he had to make that decision. I know you're not talking about him being an enforcer, but maybe Ellis just isn't that committed to being a full time NHLer to make the move to even a part time fighter.
shrader Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 I realize the point of it, but that Tropp fight looks pretty lame at the start where they're both holding each other and unbuttoning the chin straps. For me, it kind of kills the spontaneity a bit. So what happens if one guy has a hard time with the chin strap than the other guy, does the one guy have to sit and wait while he struggles with it?

shrader Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 the ref should say 1-2-3-GO!!! I say that just start throwing punches immediately and then a little mechanical claw reaches down from the rafters and takes their helmets off.
X. Benedict Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 I wonder if Rinaldo knew Tropp was a southpaw.
Weave Posted December 9, 2011 Author Report Posted December 9, 2011 I wonder if Rinaldo knew Tropp was a southpaw. I would hope so. They fought in the A last season. ETA- It just occurred to me that we now have three guys that can throw southpaw. Kassian, McCormick, and Tropp.

thesportsbuff Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 I can't believe the amount of people that voted the Ellis fight a draw. Must be the same people who thought Gaustad vs Lucic was a draw.
